Currently dog, DH, DS1 and DS2 are all sleeping. I'm sat with a quiet cuppa in my dressing gown in the living room. Tree lights on.

Today we will make mince pies (which will likely be inedible as I've not mastered gluten free pastry).

There's also a village "Santa run" (walk, ride) this morning and mince pies, Mulled wine and Santa at the village pond this afternoon. Whether or not we will make it to both remains to be seen.

I’m on the sofa with the tree lights on and the poorly dog snoozing next to me. DD in bed.

Today I am WFH and wrapping presents when I can. Mainly preoccupied with how my dog is… not sure of the timescale but he is terminally ill and I’m feeling the responsibility of making the right timing choice for him 😢

SparklingCrow · 24/12/2025 06:51

I did my back in yesterday. Great.

DP is already downstairs doing ‘things’ (god knows what). I will try to get him to make me a cup of tea and a hot water bottle for aforementioned bad back.

Then DP and I will start The Christmas Eve Visits.

JudgeBread · 24/12/2025 06:52

Everyone asleep except me, I normally get up at 4 for work so despite my best efforts to have a lie in I've been up a couple of hours.

I made desserts and the white chocolate ones haven't bloody set so I'm now trying to decide whether to try again or just sack it off and get a pudding from Aldi.

I've got to go and get a broken tooth fixed later, bless my lovely dentist for managing to squeeze me in before Christmas.

That's it really. Wishing everyone a cosy and relaxed Christmas eve! Or a rowdy and mad one, depending on your preferences 😁🎄

It’s so sad, isn’t it? We had to make a decision about an elderly cat one Christmas. Flowers

MinnieMountain · 24/12/2025 06:54

We're staying in a holiday cottage near BIL's as we're with them for Christmas but they don't have room for us to stay. Tbh I prefer space to unwind and our nephew is a bouncy 3yo, so that's fine.

DH and DS(12) are asleep. MIL, FIL and step-MIL are in the cottage next door to us.

We're going into the local town later to collect the cheese order and buy random tasty food.

santiishot · 24/12/2025 06:55

Just getting ready for work as is the rest of the household. @SparklingCrowwhat’s a Christmas Eve Visit?

Satisfiedkitty · 24/12/2025 06:55

I didn't sleep, so not a great start. I'm finding this year very triggering for all sorts of reasons.

I've got to go into work this morning, then I'm closing the office until the new year.

Older teen/adult boys both home and asleep. Later, we'll deliver a few cards and bits, then have a friend coming over this evening.

SuperDuperFuckNuts · 24/12/2025 06:56

In bed with tea. DS downstairs with his grandparents. I am driving us all back to my place (4 hours) this morning so I need to pack the car up.

MinnieMountain · 24/12/2025 06:56

Sorry to hear that @RappelChoan . I had to decide about our cat in the summer. It's a difficult decision.

Thesofathatwas · 24/12/2025 06:57

Everyone is asleep but due to the blessing of perimeno, I’ve been up since 5.30… just had a slice of tiger bread, toasted, with proper salted butter melted in and a beautiful coffee… bliss!

Off to the tip this morning, I’ve a car full of stuff to get rid of.
Then off to my dads to drop some lovely M&S goodies to him & his family.
Then a visit from my lovely bil dropping pressies off for my kids.
THEN the front door will be locked, we will plant on the sofa and … relax!
Best day! 😊

Simonjt · 24/12/2025 06:58

I’ve been up early, I’ve been to the gym and sorted the last few food bits. I can hear the kids moving so they’ll be down very soon to open all of their presents.

My husbands grandma and little brother are spending the day with us, so we have some presents for them as well.

Later in the afternoon a group of school friends are meeting at the park to play for an hour, so our sons looking forward to that.

At 3 we’ll watch the usual compilation of disney cartoons on TV.

We’ll have a fairly lazy evening I think, my husband will squeeze in a bike ride somewhere depending on which bits of the day are busy.

SoScarletItWas · 24/12/2025 06:58

I’m still in bed with a cup of tea. DH is downstairs doing sticky things with Nigella’s ham which cooked overnight. Cats are going demented at the smell.

Today when I can be arsed to get up will be wrapping, baking, prepping the dishes we’re taking over to MIL’s tomorrow. Cheese and nibbly bits for tea.

TheCurious0range · 24/12/2025 06:59

Everyone is still asleep! DH didn't even get up for his early gym session. I'll get up shortly , few bits to do this morning then we are heading off to panto, then my gran arrives, we'll take her for late lunch to a local restaurant and then crib service at 5. Home, crack open some snacks, soup and crusty bread for anyone who wants it. Mince pie for father Christmas, DS to bed, DH will do that while I prep the turkey for the morning. Then I'll probably open a bottle of something with bubbles.

Littletreefrog · 24/12/2025 07:00

DS1 finished work yesterday and stayed at his GF last night so isn't here. DS2 is in bed, probably won't surface until lunchtime. When DH finally stops snoring and wakes up he will be WFH until around 5. I need to go into work and do a few hours at some point today but it's flexible so I'll probably go soon seen as I'm awake due to the snoring and then I'll be back for lunchtime. Ddog is also snoring in his bed in our room so the chances of me going back to sleep are slim to none.

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 24/12/2025 07:04

I’ve been awake for almost two hours scrolling, I can hear snoring, lots of cars zooming by outside.

The plan today is have a wee, cup of tea in bed, then shower. Make mince pies (packet pastry and mincemeat in a jar), cook and start on the massive shop I did yesterday, get the decorations out (oops), start the Christmas tv (already had an extremely pleasant evening with the Radio Times and a red felt tip) and the Christmas radio.

Maybe hoover. Maybe laundry.

Basically spending the day pottering in the kitchen. We’re not big Christmas people but I love the peace and quiet of the reflection side of it all. I’ll be listening to and watching the church type programmes and seeking out the non commercial side of it.

BUT also love an Eastenders murder/disaster and watching other people do all the excess from the comfort of my sofa. But I personally crave the ‘plainness’ and quiet of it all.

ExperiencedTeacher · 24/12/2025 07:04

Kids in bed, DP and I are doom scrolling, drinking coffee in bed. He’s off to see his kids later and my two and I will prep veg and chill before we all head to the pub this afternoon.

tealandteal · 24/12/2025 07:06

DH, 3yo DS and I are snuggled on the sofa under blankets. 8yo still asleep. Today we DH pack for going to PIL, presents are wrapped. I am working 8-4 from home but the house smells of the sugar cookies we made yesterday so it’s not so bad.

Wiaa · 24/12/2025 07:06

My 6yr old woke me up at 630 to come downstairs so im sat having a coffee, dh went to work about half hour ago and ds9 is still asleep. We're going to my mum's at around 10, dh is meeting us there then on the way home we're dropping off a gift for our friends daughter, picking up some real ale and I've just remembered i need a lemon for the soup we're making so I'll have to brave the shop!! We're hosting the inlaws at tea time mil fil sil and partner and twin nieces (13) on the menu is homemade soup, shredded beef rolls plus a few sides

inmyheadimthequeen · 24/12/2025 07:07

Only me awake here too - I'm still in bed but can't get back to sleep. DH snoozing beside me, DS working this morning but shoild be with us by mid-afternoon, DD asleep but had a bad night coughing with this miserable cold that everyone has had.

Nohing much to do here except collect the turkey from the butcher. Keep going over my shopping and gift lists and everything seems ticked off.

My family all visited last week (they are a long way away).. Seeing DH's family on Saturday (also some distance although not quite as far).

Looking forward to having the four of us together - both DC live elsewhere for work/uni. Once we are all here, will decorate the tree, eat, drink and then watch a movie. I will finally relax - nothing on earth makes me feel better than having my tribe under the same roof knowing we are all safe and happy to be together.

Happy Christmas all.

MrsWhites · 24/12/2025 07:08

I’m just about to get up to go to cemetery, few jobs around the house to do and then church this evening. Everyone else still asleep.

DS was bouncing off the walls yesterday with excitement so no doubt will be even worse today 😂

NessShaness · 24/12/2025 07:10

I’m the only one awake, tree lights are on and I’m having a coffee.

I just have a couple of money wallets to fill but other than that I’m all done. Off for a long walk this morning, the pub this afternoon for one, and then home for a family games night and a takeaway.

Sanch1 · 24/12/2025 07:10

I am in bed, DH leapt out of bed half an hour ago to go to the supermarket for fillet for our beef wellington as the butcher there yesterday told us to get here early! The Tesco delivery receipt popped up before he left so I added a few bits they aren’t delivering.

All 3 kids are in their rooms on devices before we get up for the day. Thinking of doing a local Christmas trail and out for lunch before eldest two go to their dad, and then church carol service with youngest.

Then need to go in the loft and get the kids massive bean bag gifts out to wrap somehow 😂

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 24/12/2025 07:11

DH is cooking the turkey , l am watching the telly and on here , the washing machine is on. Everything is done for Christmas so just a question of popping up to see my Mum and chill for the rest of the day and eat drink and be merry 😁

PermanentTemporary · 24/12/2025 07:11

Morning all, happy Christmas - it’s my favourite day of the year 🎄

Planned a lie in but am awake anyway and so it’s coffee in bed. Dp has blushingly brought his laptop in as he has some rewards to earn in a game. Feeling very in love with him atm - we have ds and ds’s girlfriend staying tonight and I feel like all the patience dp showed with ds for the last 5 years is at last paying off and they are good together.

This morning it’s cooking - carrot soup for lunch and prepping the salmon en croute and as many veg as possible for tomorrow plus writing out all the timings. Then pm there’s a big neighbourhood gathering for a walk and back to someone else’s for mince pies. Seafood and some telly tonight.
