This is the bumper Christmas issue with the added challenge of all the work Xmas brings and feelings it might bring up...but we're here. Highs and lows. 🌲🌲😴🤕🤗

That fastballs thread still has me shaking when I remember it.

@Orangesandlemons77 exh used to tell me to drink more water as a response to every illness but he's crackers!

The only other thing that's provoked weird attitudes is my anaphylactic nut allergy. I've had people not believe me about that too but that sort of provokes an attitude that I am attention seeking or taking attention away from them or something.

People are weird!

People are weird, you are right. It must be scary having such an allergy. Maybe they don't understand it. I'm starting to think some people are just maybe not very bright...

MewithME · 12/01/2026 18:33

People are better about allergies now. My flat mate decided she needed to eat peanut butter every morning when I told her about it. This was when I was 20, but some can still be idiots. I honestly think some people who love being the centre of attention can't cope with other people having attention because of illness and they act out.

My MIL is quite attention seeking and thinks I seek attention through illness but I don't. Some people can be like that. That's bad of the flat mate. Sorry that happened Flowers

TodayIsatrickyone · 12/01/2026 19:30

Well found @MewithME that’s given me a much needed laugh today! I was thinking this morning how gross they smell 😂 and remembering with a smile my old sausage dog eating crumbs from the fat ball that had fallen on the ground but he was a dog and not the brightest one bless him!

MewithME · 12/01/2026 20:06

Ha .. @Orangesandlemons77 ...it was a long time ago. She wasn't all bad. I survived 😊

Yeah I think I see your MIL's game. She competes with you for attention. She doesn't like you being ill because she wants her son to look after her and not you probably.

@TodayIsatrickyone haha yeah dog...not husband 😂

Late check in today, knitting has taken over all my spare time! Note to self, give myself more time in the future 🤣

Good day at work but legs are tight and sore. I'll knock back some pain killers and hope for a better night's sleep tonight 🤞

Sweet dreams all 💕

Yes I hadn't thought about that about the MIL that's probably true.

Plus the sisters have probably got used to me taking her out and helping etc so would be keen for me to return to that role.

Me needing support myself would kind of scupper that situation and upset the apple cart.

Woke up early and just lay there feeling angry about it all and actually think I feel a bit better for it!

Knitting sounds good. I hear it's really therepuetic. Something about the small hand movements and serotonin or something. It's kind of mindful too.

Morning all!

Awake at 5am (adrenaline rush) so thinking too much as usual. I am by myself all day as DH is going to help a friend with a car rebuild so will be standing in a freezing garage and lifting etc. He will be sore and stiff tomorrow but he enjoys doing it because it is absorbing and he likes fixing things.

I would love a project. I am useless at knitting and find sewing painful (neck) . I am trying to do some decluttering a bit at a time and actually that is quite rewarding. I have got rid of loads of my books but DH has kept most of his! His approach to decluttering is to pack things in boxes and throw them out "if he has to" once we've moved.

We watched the final episode of Pluribus last night. Wow. Loved it.

FurForksSake · 13/01/2026 08:35

Morning. DH is in London three days a week now so I have to get the kids up and out and it’s exhausting. They are quite self sufficient but still need supervision and support.

my sick note ran out today, I did the request for the new one yesterday stating consultant and occupational health say I’m not fit to return. I’m panicking they won’t do the note and that I should have gone in to work some how.

TeaAndStrumpets · 13/01/2026 08:48

@FurForksSake I hope you get your sick note through. It is always a bit stressful waiting for documents but you are in the system so presumably it's up to someone to press a button.

I was browsing the rest of MN yesterday to pass the time and started reading tips to make one's life easier. Among perfectly practical suggestions a huge number of people said they had stopped reading the news. I was surprised at this but maybe I'm being a bit naive. I know the world is in a dreadful state but I find I have to keep up with the news to understand what is happening in the world. I like to read in depth articles giving the background to things. Probably I'm just a frustrated historian!

Orangesandlemons77 · 13/01/2026 09:26

Just having a coffee and letting go of other things MIL used to say to me regarding illness.

For example, when I was taking my tablets she told me she 'had a relative who was a hypochondriac and took so many pills they died"

When I showed her my app the GPs recommended for HRT she told she 'thought it was terrible I had that while other really ill people couldn't get to see the GP"

When I was upset that my elderly dad had been diagnosed with dementia, she told me 'she didn't think he had dementia"

It was just an ongoing lot of digs, denial etc. Glad to be free of that now!

DH keeps asking if I have talked to her, I tell him no, it's his mother, have you?

He has got so used to me being the go between.

Anyway enough of all that. Might try and do the new yoga video, it is called something like yoga for rest and restoration and a friend recommended it.

It's on DVD so will need to play it on the TV in the lounge, there is more space there as well.

I read the news and have a sub to the Times online, but I do often skim anything which looks bad unless I have the bandwidth for it.

Hoping for a good day for everyone Flowers

FurForksSake · 13/01/2026 09:55

Flipping heck @Orangesandlemons77 what a narcissist and horrible lady. You owe her nothing.

today is a sofa day, I just got beached on the sofa and then my leg was very weak when I stood. My sciatica is trash alongside recovering from the surgery. And my elbow hurts today. That’s new.

waiting to hear what they are doing with mil, they’ve found a mass when scanning her gallbladder and keeping her in hospital so she doesn’t fall out of the system. Totally no need for her to be there, she could be on a virtual ward and freed a bed. They might do a small procedure to drain her gall bladder and hopefully do an mri but who knows when. I fear it is not going to be good news and it’s a very tricky place to have a mass.

Orangesandlemons77 · 13/01/2026 09:59

Sorry to hear about the pain ForForksSake sciatica and nerve pain can be particularly nasty. Do you have any pain meds? I have gabapentin for my neuralgia (from past shingles) but it can make me a bit drowsy so not great with ME.

Hope you have a relaxing day anyway. Will you watch something while on the sofa perhaps? in the evening I get subjected to things my teens watch which isn't great.

I hope they sort something out with your MIL. Will she need some more ongoing care do you think or will be able to return home? If it is inoperable maybe they will get palliative care in place. I hear hospices are really good, but only for the last 2 weeks or so of life I think.

FurForksSake · 13/01/2026 10:07

mil Is totally fit and well and in her early 70s. So this is all quite a shock. We are hoping it’s just a really weird reaction to a giant gallstone but the hospital are indicating that they think it’s more.

We are hopeful they’ll refer her to the big hospital, whip out what they can and give a plan.

I have gaba! I forgot, I’ll take some now. Thanks for the reminder. It’s for this 🤣

I am currently watching channel 5 shows about paramedics 🤭

TeaAndStrumpets · 13/01/2026 11:37

@FurForksSake that's all miserable, in a way it seems over cautious to keep your MIL in hospital but perhaps it will act in her favour if swift action is needed.

I too am fascinated by emergency services and their skills. So many people in non jobs like @Orangesandlemons77 's wannabe therapeutic counsellor SIL wouldn't last a morning!
I 'm still mulling that one over.

My DD1 has just taken on an extra cleaning job and she works like a dog for £15 ph. The latest house is large and totally filthy - obviously hasn't been cleaned for months. The wife is nice and very grateful to have help, the husband tipped his coffee grounds over the huge Belfast sink DD had just spent ages scrubbing. They previously had a girl from the village who was 'a bit simple' and 'very slow'. This girl quit presumably because she may be slow and simple but she's not daft! I have told DD to walk away but she feels so sorry for the wife who is overwhelmed.

FurForksSake · 13/01/2026 11:44

I used to be radiography a lifetime ago and worked a lot of nights, weekends and mostly in casualty. It gives me my fix!

That job I left physically broken, my body just crumbled.

Orangesandlemons77 · 13/01/2026 11:47

I was a primary school teacher but didn't last long. The stress and politics made me leave. Then working in a nursery for a while managing the pre-school room which was better stress-wise but still long hours. Eventually had to leave due to illness but I kind of miss it. It was quite fun in a way. Quite physical though.

TodayIsatrickyone · 13/01/2026 12:38

Morning all, had to get up and out to the dental hygienist this morning which I must admit I’d totally forgotten about until the reminder came through!
I was a bit grumpy at having to go out as the dog woke me at 5 wanting to go out, she was quick and straight back to bed but that was me awake for a while. DH ( who slept through!) then wondered why I couldn’t wake up when his alarm went off for the school run!
Im back on my sofa with the dog who is not leaving my lap now as I dared leave her for an hour!
@Orangesandlemons77 I was a primary school teacher too, I do miss it but not the stress or politics which seem to have got even worse lately.
@FurForksSake hope you get news on your MIL soon then you at least know what’s happening. Waiting is stressful 😥

FuzzyPuffling · 13/01/2026 12:58

I've been to Lidl and have school run for DGS later.
I used to work in neuro research..

FurForksSake · 13/01/2026 13:29

Fit note through, signed off until 17th Feb. Shrove Tuesday! I can relax again. I was giving them until 13.30 before I chased and it came through two minutes before.
