I am going to Waitrose tomorrow. Is there anything you recommend that's different from other supermarkets.
I believe it's quite a large store so hopefully it is well stocked.

OP posts:
JacknDiane · 10/12/2025 23:36

Bloody everything really.

JacknDiane · 10/12/2025 23:37

PS get your teenagers to get p/t jobs in a waitrose...you'll both get 20% off everything except spirits

Why have you decided to go to Waitrose 'for the first time' if an hour away? You could look online. I think perhaps you should buy the things you like the look of or sound like you would like.

Or she could - and bear with me here, it's a bit "out there" - ask for recommendations?

Also, in your world, can you imagine that the OP might be visiting somewhere close to that Waitrose tomorrow, and so has decided to visit it?

ETA: I go to Waitrose a lot, and have never tried loads of the things that have been suggested on this thread! Am so going to, now.

Boudy · 10/12/2025 23:42

I just think 'and bear with me here' it is a tad odd to ask for recommendations for what is pretty much a food shop. I would think the same if Asda,Tesco etc ...unless dietary( gluten, vegan etc)

Of you pop, then. This is not the thread for you.

Boudy · 10/12/2025 23:44

😄

Because it does have some different things to other supermarkets, it's expensive and op wants to avoid disappointment maybe?

@Boudy is a plopper. Plops into a thread to say "I think this thread is pointless!" and expects some kind of praise, or something. While everyone else just rolls their eyes.

Anyway, OP, at Waitrose I also recommend their own-brand soups, if that is your thing.

Boudy · 10/12/2025 23:51

@Beerlzebub Gosh you have me banged to rights. You can read my mind! Bravo.

Boudy · 10/12/2025 23:56

Actually op I was thinking you should just go for what you like the look of or description of. I don't know if you are making a special trip as it is Christmas or if you want to look online. I don't know if you or family have allergies/ intolerances I would say choose what you think sounds/ looks yum ..as I suggested a while back.

ZaZathecat · 10/12/2025 23:59

Findlater's chicken liver pate. It's the only pate I've found that doesn't contain nitrates

Beerlzebub · 11/12/2025 00:00

In terms of meats, their sausages and bacon are excellent.

TrainedByCats · 11/12/2025 00:07

I like their own brand Scottish shortbread fingers, superior to Walkers imo

Sorry didn't mean to attach the quote.

Their own strawberry trifle. The normal average Waitrose one.
I have decided to live on this all year round.

Do not, I warn you, try their Madagascan vanilla custard

Crwysmam · 11/12/2025 00:42

Pistachio tiramisu. You will not regret it although it’s so rich you can’t eat a huge amount.
Their own brand No. 1 Greek yoghurt and crème freche. I use both as an alternative to cream.
Anything from the essential range and their spices and herbs are great.
Fresh pasta and there range do dried pasta is excellent.
The only thing that disappoints is their bakery common or garden loaves. They have a super range of specialty breads but DH doesn’t like crusty bread so it ends up going stale.

They do have a good range of frozen French pastries which disappear rapidly in our house.

Our local Waitrose does fresh sushi and some really niche products like pomegranate salad dressing stuff that you find in Middle Eastern salads. They also stock brilliant range of wines and spirits.

Recently I tested some locally distilled vodka ( I’m not usually a fan) it is distilled 5 times so is exceptionally smooth. So if you’re looking to stock the Christmas drinks cabinet Piston vodka would be a good addition. It’s so smooth you don’t need to add a mixer. I don’t actually drink alcohol ( maybe a gnt 2-3 times a year) but I’m going to treat myself to a bottle for Xmas. Piston gin is very good too.

agree with everyone about: brown butter mince pies, frangipane mince pies, cinnamon knots, lemon and coriander hummus, coffritto mix.
Mince pies are on offer at the moment 🙂
venison products.
essential parmesan and essential extra mature cheddar - very sensibly priced.
Any N1 cheeses 😋
From bakery: olive bread, mixed olives roll, cheese straws, almond croissants.
Their gut health yogurt- pack of 4 and New York cheesecake.
Tiptree wild cranberry sauce - game changer
Duchy organic strawberry extra jam
Toilet paper

Lemoncello mince pies. Delicious

Agree. Also the amaretto stollen.

PrincessofWells · 11/12/2025 00:52

Their own brand individual yoghurt that come in little glass jars with compote in the bottom. Lemon, strawberry, or cherry. £1.10. Delicious.

frenella · 11/12/2025 02:19

Oh my goodness, this is not the thread to be on if you live abroad - I'm so jealous!

whatohwhattodo · 11/12/2025 05:26

the apple and pear crumble is really nice and a bit different to usual. Also the sea salt caramel brittle one (think that’s what it is)

King prawn pizza also nice.

MinnieMountain · 11/12/2025 05:33

Re. the cinnamon knots- Asda sell them too. I've not tried those ones yet but they look the same.

The crumble topped mince pies are also divine.

This! These are absolutely amazing. Buy them now.

the No1 blueberries and the fancy grapes are also good.
