Here’s the link.

I know we like a nose around other peoples houses. Might need sunglasses for this one.

Before I read the blurb I thought kids had painted their bedrooms. Then I saw the other photos - it's bloody awful!
What was a 3 bed / 1 bath mid terrace, with a loft conversion to add 2 more bedrooms but no additional bathroom, for £2m? No fucking chance.

PigeonsandSquirrels · 04/12/2025 16:30

I think it’s gorgeous. A real work of art.

sittingonabeach · 04/12/2025 16:33

Well over priced for the area, so paying for the artwork

Bundleflower · 04/12/2025 16:37

I adore it. The only thing I’d change is the hall way. That’s a bit much for me.

HaveACheekyChristmas · 04/12/2025 16:39

I think it's just a publicity stunt and it's worked. I'd never heard of her before this but it's all over the media.

No one in their right mind will pay £2m for that. It's interesting that she's painted it I suppose but it's not so good that you'd want to keep it as 'an immersive artwork'. Who'd want to live in it like that? So what are you going to do? Open it as a museum?

WallaceinAnderland · 04/12/2025 15:33

Same price, same county, much nicer

That entrance portico is beautiful. It reminds me of American Greek Revival style houses.

TimeForATerf · 04/12/2025 16:43

I also wondered if it had been over valued because some artist I’ve never heard of lives there. IMO, it needs a fair few grand knocking off because it’s giving headache vibes, not sure who told this “artist” they could paint, because they’re shite. I could paint a circus animal better than that and I’m diabolical.

Close to the sea and could have some period features under all that colour, but who On earth will pay that?

Picklelily99 · 04/12/2025 16:43

Considering the house, that is a very UNDERWHELMING garden!!!

Wallah?

Voila.

Bookpage · 04/12/2025 13:09

Interesting. Does all that art increase or decrease the value?

Is the artist anyone of note?

Is it priced as something special for the area or as something where the buyer will need to do a lot of work? I know Devon has become expensive, but £2m?

Apparently, she's famous and South Devon is megabucks anyway. Only council tax band E? My house in Cornwall is band E and worth around £400, 000 on a good day.

Anyahyacinth · 04/12/2025 16:49

Love it

TroysMammy · 04/12/2025 16:50

I felt nauseous flicking from one room to the next. A few tins of magnolia is what that needs.

Monty34 · 04/12/2025 16:51

Well, it will affect the value. But probably not in a good way. The limited number of people looking to move, to there, now, who would love it will be few and far between.
It would give me a headache. It also feels very claustrophobic, as if the walls are coming in. Ruins the property.

Isn't it!

I went to fashion college and consider myself reasonably arty, house-wise...but my attempts at artyness extend to the garden too. That poor outside space is just a bit pants and unloved imo!

"Emily Powell has also committed to maintaining the work after the sale, refreshing and hand painting every five years for the rest of her life for the future owner - something uniquely additional to the sale of the house."

Someone has to break it to her that the buyer will likely paint it all grey.

Velveletteslonleylonelygirlami · 04/12/2025 16:56

@WallaceinAnderland got my voilas and wallahs confused👍😁

diddl · 04/12/2025 16:57

Even if you like her work I would think that being constantly totally surrounded by it might become too much.

WearyCat · 04/12/2025 17:01

Well.

i mean, I like a colourful home.

But I also like being able to see the pictures I’ve chosen for my walls. And my books and my objects. I’d never see anything again if I lived in a house that busy. It would, after a few
minutes, do my head RIGHT in.

I doubt I’m the first to ask whether you HAVE to keep it with the top-ups, or if you’re allowed to come in with some very plain, clean white walls?

I also wonder whether she painted it and then found that she couldn’t live in it either, so they have to move 🤔🫣

I'd have expected the garden to be as eclectic as the house!

Oh yes I wasn’t suggesting otherwise.

Oh, yes...I realised that.

DrMickhead · 04/12/2025 17:13

Being the morbid and curious soul I do wonder how fucked off one would be to purchase the house to have the decorating redone every 5 years for Emily to be hit by a bus 3 years into buying her house.

Being equally as morbid, the buyer would probably be delighted because the price of her work would rise a fair amount I would imagine.

UnemployedNotRetired · 04/12/2025 17:19

At least it's unlikely someone would move in and paint it all grey.

goldtrap · 04/12/2025 17:25

2 million is quite a speculation. I would like her auction record to be more robust before I took a punt.

Also, what if there's a leak, or damp, or the survey shows it needs rewiring? It's hard enough pinning down trades and tedious coordinating and waiting in, let alone factoring in the artist to show up and repaint as well.

It is very exuberant, though. A maximalist Vanessa Bell.

SeriousTissues · 04/12/2025 17:26

Fabulous!
