A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Angela Rayner is backing a growing rebellion against Labour’s court reforms after MPs claimed they would play into the hands of Nigel Farage.

The former deputy prime minister is understood to have grave concerns about No 10’s plans to halve the number of jury trials.

Allies said she was worried that Reform UK would be able to weaponise the changes to further a narrative of the government versus the people.

Sir Keir Starmer is facing the biggest rebellion of his premiership over the plans, with around 50 Labour MPs having privately stated their opposition.

Sorry for the blanket posting, but its all positive!

Very happy to read that. 😁

I hope they are forced to retreat on this.

Other ideas were available - labour’s ideas seem to be getting worse, and not better. Jury trials, ID etc…and who’d have predicted a huge majority would result in a govt so hamstring by revolts?

It really is jaw dropping the stuff they come up with.
They had 14 years to plan what they would do with power, and this is what they do with it. Its crazy.

I was looking again at the under 34 NEETs with SEN etc - specialist FE colleges typically finish at age 25. If the crisis is with people under 34, why hasn’t the age range been broadened? It took me 10 mins to see this issue (was looking into it for a family member).

redange · 13/12/2025 21:10

This being as E.U Car manufacturers will reduce hugely the number of electric models and will ramp up Petrol and Diesel production. This, leaving on Chinese EV available , maybe this was the plan all all long let China dominate the United Kingdom with their 'Cheap' Crap.

redange · 13/12/2025 21:12

Only Chinese EV to buy for the United Kingdom. I thought Kier and Company wanted to be totally 'instep' with the European Union on everything... Strange...

Makes sense to me to broaden the age range. 🤷‍♂️

So the UK will be an outlier. Brilliant.
Labour won't even be in power by 2030, let alone 2035. The next government will change course, but the uncertainty is really bad for car manufacturers.

I could be wrong, but I heard that even Canada are pulling back some of the green washing

Seems a bit too good to be true if lots of countries are doing it

I feel like it might mean they've got something else up their sleeve!

But yeah, golden opportunity for us to do it too without international criticism - not that I care about that but obviously politicians do - I can't see Labour taking it though.

Ever tried to help a patient in hospital drink through those god-awful paper straws? Although they do seem to be much worse in the hospital than they are in my local bar!

Labour rebels plotting to topple Sir Keir Starmer say they are on the brink of a major breakthrough.

Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham is poised to secure a deal to fight a by-election to return to the Commons and mount a leadership challenge, his allies have told The Mail on Sunday.

Mr Burnham has made little secret of his ambition to take the top job, and now his Commons allies say they have found a seat which is 'likely to come free' in the coming months – and which the so-called King Of The North should win, polls suggest.

Strategists working for the Prime Minister's arch rival have drawn up a shortlist of potential target seats in the North West, including the Greater Manchester seat currently held by former Labour MP Andrew Gwynne.

Just listening to Times radio on this. It is actually fascinating as there’s so many political machinations involved.

He needs a safe seat, which apparently is quite hard to find (should try London a spot of red) and McSweeney could block but probably won’t.

Silly sods but amusing to see them in fight. Also pleased to see the latest in jury trial rebellion.

I’m sceptical about Burnham’s chances.

If the May elections are bad for Labour but not catastrophic I think Starmer will hang on and will block Burnham’s selection via the NEC. But even if they are catastrophic, it’s obvious that Starmer has to go and he resigns, I still can’t see the NEC agreeing to let him stand: I doubt that Powell - as stand-in PM - could outgun Streeting, Mahmood and Rayner.

Maybe Corbyn could chuck his Lenin hat in the ring again!

A very big rebellion over jury trials seems likely though.

It’s a shame the Guardian didn’t count the billions and billions of views of lies told on Twitter, YouTube and elsewhere about the Tories.

CambridgeSingers · 14/12/2025 07:59

I need to look at some predictions but you’ve got to expect the results will be catastrophic? Particularly if the growth and jobs figures persist / can’t see a small rate cut or even two will fix that

I think there should be a general concern about content of that ilk though. And platforms hosting it should be doing more to prevent / delete it (whichever party it's about).

I agree. I just wish the established media had been more careful to debunk Labour’s lie machine, and its enthusiastic assistance by its supporters, when they were in opposition.

No party’s disinformation helps politics.

It is funny, and rather tragic to watch them scrabbling around like this. 🍿
They've only been in power for 18 months. You couldn't make it up.

Agreed. The May elections are pretty nailed on for Labour imo. People on the right and the left have options to vote for other parties.
I can't remember a government as universally despised as this one.
