Badenoch says grooming gang inquiry should leave 'no stone unturned'

https://bsky.app/profile/bestforbritain.org/post/3m7hwsfm72k2v

Sky News: You just said you don't want to leave any 'stone unturned'. Those words were used by Sajid Javid in 2018 when he ordered what you are calling for. Are you saying you failed and did leave 'stones unturned' when you were in government?

Badenoch: I'm not here to build a time machine. ~AA

Well I suppose this is an acknowledges that she’s asking Labour to do what the Tories couldn’t be bothered with.

SerendipityJane · 08/12/2025 13:56

Meanwhile, Elon Must is in running for "Snowflake of the year" after throwing the EU off Twitter. No real loss as far as I can see. I mean I manage to live without being on a platform with 20 billion verified accounts.

BIWI · 08/12/2025 15:02

He’d certainly be safer there than in Labour.

That’s a pretty serious accusation to make, given that the Prime Minister’s wife (and therefore his children) are Jewish.

Isn't that up to the children ?

BIWI · 08/12/2025 15:16

Well yes, it’s up to them to decide if they believe/want to take part in the faith. But they’re still Jewish by birth.

Oooh, can of worms.

So if one of them were to say "I am not Jewish", you would tell them they are wrong ?

s/Jewish/British/ ?

It's complicated

I am wary of just believing what I am told.

Yes, it is complicated, isn't it ? But that doesn't really make my question go away.

And I still haven't got an answer.

It's a central Jewish belief.

PickAChew · 08/12/2025 15:48

Given the propensity of your average bigot to decide that someone identifies in a particular way, it would make little difference if an individual decided that, actually, they didn't.

SerendipityJane · 08/12/2025 16:05

Piggywaspushed · 08/12/2025 15:48

It's a central Jewish belief.

Which is all very well. But is that a way of telling me that an individuals assertion about their identity is trumped by pure weight of numbers ?

Or just in this case ?

I'm not arguing from any deep ideological standpoint - it's just the comment about someone's identity on their behalf caught my eye.

And as this brief exchange suggests, it's not that simple.

Piggywaspushed · 08/12/2025 16:11

Well, Michael Rosen is fairly frequently told he is 'not Jewish' from some quarters as is Miriam Margolyes...

Seriously? By whom?

Piggywaspushed · 08/12/2025 16:21

People who don't agree with their views on certain events/ politicians.

I think the title is a little unfair. Whilst a key mover in Brexit, it was Camerons spinelessness and Johnsons utter self and crony serving mishandling of Brexit that made such a potent cocktail of chaos.

In centuries to come, people will use it in history as the most calamitous alignment of the worst possible outcomes from so many moving parts as to be unrepeatable until the end of time.

BIWI · 08/12/2025 16:41

I don’t disagree. But it was the machinations, manoeuvring and persistence of Farage that led us to this calamity.

Edited

A man who - in 2016 - held no political office in the UK.

Yes, he was the loudest mouth. But he would have remained just that if it had not been for subsequent events.

All of which being said, I have no problem now his is in office - and seeking more - to dub him Mr. Brexit in a way our useless media fails to ever do.

I wonder if it's possible to create an SM account under the name "Mr. Brexit" and have it merely repost every single thing Farage does. Hopefully causing some search engine magic.

Karistyleaftea · 08/12/2025 16:52

Boris Johnson is also definitely culpable for Brexit IMO .
He campaigned vigorously for us to leave did he not?
Much as I loathe Farage and cannot understand why people do not see through his persona he was not the only one involved.

True. But at least Boris was elected.

I am trying to think of the last time an unelected busybody had such a profound effect in the UK. The closest I can come to, is Mary Whitehouse. Who would have been a keen Reform supporter as long as they sprinkled a bit more of Christian victimhood into their offering.

It was interesting that when the NBER report came out it barely made a ripple in the media.

The NBER -

“This paper examines the impact of the UK's decision to leave the European Union (Brexit) in 2016.
Using almost a decade of data since the referendum, we combine simulations based on macro data with estimates derived from micro data collected through our Decision Maker Panel survey. These estimates suggest that by 2025, Brexit had reduced UK GDP by 6% to 8%, with the impact accumulating gradually over time. We estimate that investment was reduced by between 12% and 18%, employment by 3% to 4% and productivity by 3% to 4%. These large negative impacts reflect a combination of elevated uncertainty, reduced demand, diverted management time, and increased misallocation of resources from a protracted Brexit process. Comparing these with contemporary forecasts - providing a rare macro example to complement the burgeoning micro-literature of social science predictions - shows that these forecasts were accurate over a 5-year horizon, but they underestimated the impact over a decade.”

He was an MEP at the time wasn’t he Jane?
He walked right past me once.
I didn’t like to see him that close up.
Nothing special about him at all imo.

Hence my qualification "in the UK"
