If you had to be lost in a forest, and you had to be lost with a bear or a random man, would you choose the bear or the man ?

As bears tend to maul and eat people, probably a msn might be better. 🤷‍♀️

They don’t.

Why does everyone think they do?

GagMeWithASpoon · 23/11/2025 16:42

Man.
If it got to a face to face situation , then obviously that bear didn’t just walk away and showed “no interest “.

Men… well , unless he’s an actual serial killer intent on murder, I can survive that.

True but is the bear going to attack me? If the only information I have is bear or man, I would pick bear because the chances that the bear will avoid me are much higher than the chances that the man will not be predatory in some way.

Obviously, if the bear has cubs and the man is a park ranger, my reply would change.

I’d even take the low level harassment over the threat of a bear mauling…

All I know is that I walk my dog in woods where men are known to frequent. When I was in Canada, I did not go on any hikes where there was a risk of meeting a bear.

So I can confidently say I’d choose the man, as my past behaviour supports that.

Dymaxion · 23/11/2025 16:49

What sort of forest ?

BarbieKew · 23/11/2025 16:51

A man, obviously. I’d be bloody relieved to find another human being and I’m not a man hater. Bear Grylls would be a welcome bonus.

SuperMix · 23/11/2025 16:58

Bear always the bear. If I was attacked by a bear no one would ask me what I was wearing

Littlechristmaspuddings · 23/11/2025 17:00

NormasArse · 23/11/2025 13:54

Bungle is so wet! I’d take my chances that a man couldn’t possibly be that annoying…

… then again…

I think it’s all an act. Comes across as wet but look at those eyes. A piercing unrelenting stare. Never liked him.

Unless he has his prancing court jester who ate a thesaurus and is regurgitating it with every sentence whilst wearing some kind of Elizabethan style pirate costume russel with him !

What has age got to do with rape?

Younger women and girls are statistically much more likely to be raped and sexually assaulted

Yeah, I’d defo take an actual bear over Russell Brand

It's chucking it down and freezing. I'm not going to the woods at all, let alone with a man or a bear.

ginasevern · 23/11/2025 17:17

@HedgeOHog "Bear. If you're going to be murdered, a bear would probably be quicker."

I doubt it. If a bear decides to attack he will eat you whilst you're still alive, often starting with the head. Unlike big cats and other predators, bears don't kill their prey first. Sometimes he'll wonder off and come back for a few more bites after a while too.

BettysRoasties · 23/11/2025 17:18

I think the man and bear should be afraid. What type of women is wondering the woods alone which no contact with anyone else. 😅

A man could be useful but the man could also rape and murder me.

The bear could kill and eat me. But I could also trap and eat the bear.

WhineAndWine1 · 23/11/2025 17:41

The bear. It would kill me and eat me but that’s it. Also I know the bear rhyme so I think I would be ok 🤣

HeadyLamarr · 23/11/2025 18:58

RudolphTheReindeer · 23/11/2025 16:33

Didn't they ask men and women this and all men chose a man but women choose the bear?

I mean a bear will definitely kill me and if I'm lost in a forest it will have the advantage. A man may or may not kill me. Neither is a great choice for a woman.

What the heck??

No, a bear will not try to kill and eat you. A bear would like to avoid you.

Time of year makes a difference to my answer, though. A hungry grizzly or polar bear would eat you, but it's autumn and they just want to get to their hibernation place with their big fat selves and sleep.

Start of March, I pick a man because coming out of hibernation, especially if it's a female who's had cubs, she's going to be ravenous.

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/11/2025 19:03

Lots of people really need to watch The Revenance.
Yes, I know, it wasn’t a real bear but a guy in a suit and CGI. Because a real bear would rip you to shreds, then eat you. Thats why they resorted to cgi.
I’ll take my chances against a male human over a bear, any time. 61, 5ft 10”. Take mr chance.

And the scene has the human caught between an adult bear and cubs. That is one time bears will attack you.

But again, just ‘in the woods’ a bear will likely leave you alone. Because humans come with sharp edges and salmon and berries don’t. Now cougars, they will stalk humans and are scary. Of course, so do human murderers.

Sorica · 23/11/2025 19:30

I don’t like bears at all and the random man may be fit.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 23/11/2025 19:30

Bear. But I know that any bears I run into are likely to try to avoid me. A random unknown man in the woods I'd most likely get lost in is more likely to be suspicious and there for dubious reasons.

Bluejaysforthewin · 23/11/2025 19:36

All of y'all so casual about bears. Believe me when you come upon one and you're alone with just your little dog, you would absolutely shit your pants. Maybe I'm just a wuss Grin

I'd rather not bump into a bear, but alone and vulnerable in the middle of the forest, the bear is a known entity. I know why the bear is there. I know there is a 99% chance the bear just wants to leave me alone.

I don't know why the man is there. I don't know what he wants. He could be in the middle of the forest because he lives off-grid nearby, and he could want to offer me use of his radio, or he could be out disposing of the body of his latest victim and/or prowling for his next victim.

Both are capable of killing or maiming me, but the bear, statistically, is much less likely to do so.

This.

A 2015 study from “Violence and Gender” found that nearly 32 percent of college male participants said they would “force a woman to [have] sexual intercourse.” Half didnt even consider that to be rape. And these were the ones who admitted it. Men, not bears, and a woman's number one predator.

Maybe they've not seen the news?
This is the first I'm hearing of it myself.

The OP says they are asking on here to get more mature responses than what they are seeing on tiktok, so I'm guessing that what's on there was probably set off by the news story.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 23/11/2025 23:35

Definitely a man. I can’t believe I’m actually answering this question.

It's a theoretical question that's been doing the rounds for years. The last one I was asked was would you rather be marooned on a deserted island with a man or a pack of wild boar.

Again, the boar are likely to avoid me, especially on an uninhabited island where they are likely to have never seen a human before, plus I can eat the boar. I don't imagine roasted men are very tasty.
