If you had to be lost in a forest, and you had to be lost with a bear or a random man, would you choose the bear or the man ?

in the UK or elsewhere?

Elisheva · 23/11/2025 10:22

Bear. Bears are predictable and they don’t torture.

Twistedfirestarters · 23/11/2025 10:23

What type of bear are we talking?

Panda?
Polar?
Grizzly?
Black?

mumofoneAloneandwell · 23/11/2025 10:23

Is the random man hot?

parallelignition · 23/11/2025 10:23

Depends on the scenario. I’d have to assess the risk of the man being bad. But a bad man or bear then I’d choose the bear.

Holluschickie · 23/11/2025 10:24

Type of bear also matters. if sloth I would take the bear.

ResusciAnnie · 23/11/2025 10:25

This has been going around for ages.

It’s a bit of a silly argument really because if you’re in the forest with a bear you’d usually both know to keep away from each other. Eg it wouldn’t happen in the UK, so we’d probably do the wrong thing if faced with a bear.
And lots of men are perfectly lovely but ones that are traipsing around in the woods would be more likely to be oddballs. And why am I traipsing around the woods anyway??

Holluschickie · 23/11/2025 10:25

I traipse through woods.

TimetodoEverything · 23/11/2025 10:25

Man. Only a % chance he’s dodgy, whereas a bear (if grizzly not a cute tiny thing) would 100% be interested in eating me.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 23/11/2025 10:26

Bear, assuming it was made by Lindt. Even better if it was a sloth of Lindt bears.

ResusciAnnie · 23/11/2025 10:26

Holluschickie · 23/11/2025 10:25

I traipse through woods.

Me too. But never got lost!

Most men will say hi and keep walking. Ditto most women. Unlikely to come across a weirdo on my daily woodland walk!

WiggyWiggyImGettingJiggy · 23/11/2025 10:26

Ideally neither.

I would choose the random man though, a bear would definitely eat me, a random man has more of a chance of being ok, and I would stand more chance kicking the shit out of a man if need be.

That said, I don't think this 'debate' does anything to help VAWG, its hyperbolic in the extreme.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 23/11/2025 10:27

How hungry is the bear?

If it's a hungry big bear obviously the man -

Bear cubs are cute though..

HedgeOHog · 23/11/2025 10:28

Bear. If you're going to be murdered, a bear would probably be quicker.

Obviously there's no guarantee a man would kill you. But based on the basic premise that there's a 10% chance that the man would be a wrong 'un... I present the 'ol if you were given 10 chocolates but we're told one of them were deadly, then you'd probably avoid the whole lot of them.

It's sad but true. Not all men are bad but enough of them are.

Twistedfirestarters · 23/11/2025 10:28

I mean, statistically, more women are killed by men than bears.

pondscaters · 23/11/2025 10:28

It might be because I am ND, but can anyone else not answer this question because you would need to know so much more information and therefore find it too overwhelming.

Avie29 · 23/11/2025 10:28

The man, that bear is 100% going to eat you at some point, plus if a bear attacks me i have no idea how to kick it in the nuts to make a run for it lol

Ariana12 · 23/11/2025 10:29

Neither?

Holluschickie · 23/11/2025 10:29

I don't think most men would assault me. Rob me, maybe. So would generally choose the man.

iSage · 23/11/2025 10:30

Random man.

Bear - much stronger than me, almost certainly able to kill me, will just act on its instinct and attack for no apparent reason, death a very likely outcome.

Random man - you could well get a perfectly pleasant, harmless man in the random man lottery. If you didn't, depending on age and level of fitness, you might be able to fight him successfully/run away. The chance of getting a man who would be hellbent on killing you is very low. In the second-worst-case scenario, you might be sexually assaulted but at least you'd still be alive.

Twistedfirestarters · 23/11/2025 10:28

I mean, statistically, more women are killed by men than bears.

Probably not on a per interaction basis

WinterBerry40 · 23/11/2025 10:30

I'd like to say man , he'd build shelter , chop wood , fetch water and find food . But in reality he would see me as a liability , not even worth keeping going for a shag so either way unless I could learn all those skills pretty quickly I wouldn't last long .

blacksax · 23/11/2025 10:31

Sorry OP, but a bit of a tasteless thread when there's a current news story about a party of 11 schoolchildren being attacked by a grizzly bear in Canada.

Giraffemug30 · 23/11/2025 10:31

I've seen this a lot but I think it's a bit of a silly argument

Most men are not actually going to harm me, whilst most bears could. I have more a chance fighting off a man than a bear, more of a chance I could run away. If a bear closes to eat me I'm completely fucked.

Yeah sure he could be a serial killer or a rapist. But if I'm actually lost the man is also more likely to be able to help me. There's no way the people picking bear would actually be more scared to pass a man than a bear in the woods

Giraffemug30 · 23/11/2025 10:32

I also can probably read a man better than a bear
