If you had to be lost in a forest, and you had to be lost with a bear or a random man, would you choose the bear or the man ?

Obviously a man!

unless it was a panda because they are the cutest.

DarkEyedSailor · 23/11/2025 10:33

Bear.

I mean, statistically, more women are killed by men than bears.

Yeah but not random encounters with men in the woods compared to random encounters with bears

Everytime you go on a walk you'll pass men, sometimes you'll be alone. Most vicims of male violence are known to the perpetrator

ShesTheAlbatross · 23/11/2025 10:35

In order from one I’d be most likely to pick to least

Panda
Man
Black bear
Brown bear
Polar bear

Yeah, but if there were as many bears walking around as there are men, that could be a different story.

PartBusy · 23/11/2025 10:36

It depends on the man.

Newbutoldfather · 23/11/2025 10:37

This is one of those stupid performative questions because, in real life, close to 100% of women would choose the man.

Being stuck next to an erratically behaved carnivore who may attack you, either through fear or hunger, and kill you, versus being stuck with a random man, who might even turn out to be nice and good fun and whose chance of actually killing you is probably less than 0.01%, isn’t a real choice

celandiney · 23/11/2025 10:37

Random man. I do walk through woods and do meet random men from time to time,so far all that has happened is that we have exchanged hellos.
Any man lost in a forest is likely to be in the forest for an innocent reason - and while a man could kill me if they try there is a better change of fighting back, escaping, survival.
The random bear might also be benign but if they want to kill me I'm dead - bears are top predators, I couldn't out run it or fight it off.Or reason with it.

bottledboot · 23/11/2025 10:38

Agree with a pp I would take a random man over a Grizzly or polar bear who may be hungry or with cubs.

Even if he was serial killer I think I would have more luck in a fight against him vs a bear. And if I was to die bears don’t tend to kill you quickly or even before they eat you…

NormasArse · 23/11/2025 10:39

Both- I could distract the bear with the man, and whilst the bear was eating the man, I could creep away.

IKnowAristotle · 23/11/2025 10:39

Holluschickie · 23/11/2025 10:24

Type of bear also matters. if sloth I would take the bear.

Sloths aren't bears.

There is a bear called the sloth bear which is one of the most aggressive bears and known to claw people's faces off.

Hope that helps as I wouldn't want you to get into an awkward bear related mishap.

Do you think that would change if more of us lived in a house with a bear?

bottledboot · 23/11/2025 10:41

@IKnowAristotle bear survival 101, know your bears! 😁

HeadyLamarr · 23/11/2025 10:41

Depends on the bear. Grizzly or polar, I'm opting for man. Other bears would just leave me the hell alone.

I have met plenty of black bears and they were definitely not interested in eating me. I choose black bear over man.

Fearfulsaints · 23/11/2025 10:42

I think man.

but I did have to think for a bit. It wasnt instantaneous.

I doubt men have to think at all in the reverse, which is the point of the question.
.

ChaosPanicDisorder · 23/11/2025 10:43

Bear.

I would only go off trail in the winter.

shivermetimbers77 · 23/11/2025 10:45

Assuming it’s a grizzly bear, then I would choose the man. Being eaten by a grizzly bear would be a horrific way to go (I still remember the description in the film Grizzly Man), whereas the majority of men are not going to harm you.

Oh really? 😁I have seen sloth bears and they looked really placid and small.

Anyway I would choose a man as he would most likely guide me out . Or I could offer a reward for taking me to civilization.

ReceiveIt · 23/11/2025 10:46

It's an interesting question because in normal society the most men would not harm you because of possible witnesses, getting caught, going to prison, etc. But in a secluded forest with no witnesses or consequences I think the chances of harm would increase exponentially. Thats not to say ALL men would harm women if they could, of course most men would not. But there's a lot more that definitely would if they knew they wouldn't get caught.

That said, I have no idea which one I would choose. I think I'd be able to fight off/hide from a man easier than a bear.

Coconutter24 · 23/11/2025 10:46

So you came to a place where a large percentage of women like to slag men off for just being men….

Newbutoldfather · 23/11/2025 10:46

@Twistedfirestarters ,

‘I mean, statistically, more women are killed by men than bears.’

And, ‘statistically’, we should all be encouraging our children to become pirates. As pirating has declined, the world has suffered global warming so, clearly, if we brought back more Corsairs, it would be a solution to global warming!!

Correlation is not causation…

phantomofthepopera · 23/11/2025 10:47

I’d choose Bear, only if it was Bear Grylls. He’d be handy to be lost in the woods with.

soupyspoon · 23/11/2025 10:50

Ridiculous question for obvious reasons but I will answer neverthless

A man of course

If you're coming at it from the perspective of being attacked by a man well

  • he might not be the attacking or raping type
  • i may be able to overcome him and kill him first
  • i would have a better chance of getting out the forest if he is compliant and useful
A bear cannot be reasoned with, wont catch any food that it would share with me, cant read maps and I cant kill it

If a panda felt threatened it would rip you apart (even if it does look cute)

Frequency · 23/11/2025 10:52

A bear. I watch lots of wildlife programmes. Bears typically avoid humans, hungry or not. The only reason a bear would attack you is to defend itself if you were torturing it, or if it had cubs; they do not hunt women for pleasure. The same cannot be said for some men.
