If you had to be lost in a forest, and you had to be lost with a bear or a random man, would you choose the bear or the man ?

Sloths aren't bears.

There is a bear called the sloth bear which is one of the most aggressive bears and known to claw people's faces off.

Hope that helps as I wouldn't want you to get into an awkward bear related mishap.

Crosses sloth off my 'best bear to be friends with' list.

mysodapop · 23/11/2025 10:54

Obviously a man! Most men are normal and reasonable. There'd be a high chance if bumping into a man like my dad/brother/sons who would smile say good morning and walk past. The chances of meeting a man intent on rape or murder are way lower than the liklihood of not surviving a bear encounter.

KvotheTheBloodless · 23/11/2025 10:54

Definitely the man. Most men are nice, reasonable humans who would help me get out of the woods. Most bears would ignore/avoid me, some (grizzly, polar) might try to eat me - definitely not helpful either way.

Frequency · 23/11/2025 11:23

I think I have encountered a different type of man to a lot of women on this thread. Ime, most men are not nice. Most will not murder or rape, but they will engage in low-level sexual harassment and/or assault.

In a recent study by the UN, 97% of women said they'd been sexually harassed, so either most men are not nice or a minority of men are harassing and assaulting most women. The former makes the most sense to me.

0% of bears would sexually harass me. Plus, why is the man in the forest? I assume, if I were lost, I'd be deep inside a large, dense forest. The bear belongs there. Why is a lone man there?

lljkk · 23/11/2025 11:31

Hmmm... Alaska, starving bear possible, or a Polar bear in any situation: choose man as companion every time.

California, black bear, easy to scare away as long as I don't have smelly food on me: still lost at this point... California wilderness is huge and 2 people better for keeping warm & finding a road or civilisation...... think I choose the fella. Vermont bears ... similar calculus.

So basically, random bloke both times.

Is the random man hot?

😂😂

Definitely a man because I’m not inherently frightened of men but I’d be very frightened of a bear. Unless it was a koala I suppose, they seem quite slow and doddery. But unlikely to help me find a way out of the woods…

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/11/2025 11:52

Depends on the bear.

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 23/11/2025 11:55

Man. Many men are lovely and those that aren't could be sorted out with a roundhouse kick to the head.

Blondiney · 23/11/2025 11:57

Can we have a dog option please?

minipie · 23/11/2025 12:00

Yes I think this makes the decision for me.

The bear is physically more dangerous of course. But the bear has a good reason to be in the woods and as a wild animal it is probably going to leave me alone - it will only attack if really hungry or if I do something it sees as threatening. (Bears are not carnivores contrary to what pp said, they are omnivores, except polar bears. If it was a full on hunting carnivore like a polar bear or tiger I’d think differently). The man, well many men are ok but one who’s alone in the woods, there’s a much higher chance he is a dangerous man. Also a man may have a weapon.

I couldn’t fight off a man or a bear anyway so intention matters a lot more than physique. There is more chance that a lone man in the woods wants to harm me than that the bear wants to harm me.

TryingtryingTryingfivetimes · 23/11/2025 12:01

Definitely the bear. It is OK, the worst a bear could do it is either kill me or cause physical injury that I will die from later on. Or the bear dies before me and I could make a nice barbecue (with no seasoning and no salt (yuck!)).

WaryCrow · 23/11/2025 12:03

Are you going to compare results to those from the number of times this has been asked before? That might make an interesting study.

Too little information in the question, but a random man will harass a woman at some point, unless they’re very firmly gay. A black bear would establish its territory and I mine.

MeridaBrave · 23/11/2025 12:04

The man. I’m in my 50s. I think most men aren’t into murder, and only a very small number are into rape.

And even if raped, still a reasonable odds of surviving.

Agree. I'll take my chances with the bear. He's more likely to leave me alone if I'm minding my own business.

Hawkeyethenew · 23/11/2025 12:08

I’d opt for Bear Grylls

It's not a small number.

One study shows that a third of men would rape if they thought they could get away with it.

It's a massive problem, made worse by 'nice guys' who don't believe them/their relatives/their friends/their favourite football player are rapists because <insert reason blaming the woman here>.

sashh · 23/11/2025 12:21

The bear.

If I'm somewhere likely to encounter bears I will have a gun.

Littlechristmaspuddings · 23/11/2025 12:24

Man . Even if he’s bad. You have zero chance fighting a bear off but some chance with a man.

Limer · 23/11/2025 12:28

Man, unless the bear was either Paddington or Rupert.

Littlechristmaspuddings · 23/11/2025 12:29

Or bungle from rainbow, although he seemed to have a bit of a sinister side come to think of it

LizaRadleywasonthespectrum · 23/11/2025 12:30

The man because I have common sense. I hope all you pp who chose the bear don’t have sons.

WheresBillGrundyNow · 23/11/2025 12:36

Avie29 · 23/11/2025 10:28

The man, that bear is 100% going to eat you at some point, plus if a bear attacks me i have no idea how to kick it in the nuts to make a run for it lol

It’s supposed to be a thought experiment.
The answer is not as important as the fact that a man will likely immediately respond “another person” but a woman will usually have to give pause.

Is a woman walking alone in the woods dangerous?
some people just like walking in woods. I’d be more worried about a man on the streets in some places.

Bear. Bears are predictable and they don’t torture.

Google "Grizzly attacks."

{Not all bears are like that, of course.}
