A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

We are bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Seems that the budget is being truly leaked, now (legitimately).

  • Annual cash ISA limit to be reduced to 12k.
  • The ‘mansion tax’ is to kick in at 2 mn and above.

Doubtless, more to follow….

Fucking idiots touching the Cash ISA.
We are all meant to have 3-6 months salary saved for emergencies so yeh cut it to 12K. The banks will not like that.
Time to build the safe under the floorboards for next 3.5 years!

twistyizzy · 24/11/2025 17:46

Good thing DH already moved a load of our savings and is diverting future savings into other pots

The wheels have come off and its panic stations from number 11.

What a mess they are. Even the last budget wasn't this chaotic, and Reeves set a very low bar. This has to be her last budget, surely?

Yep the last one was a car crash in slow motion after but before there was very little.

Whilst I am an agnostic, allow me to say ‘If there is a God’…

My fear is that she manages to tread that fine line - namely keeping the large bond funds content, as well as the back benches. It would only make her more emboldened.

We are collateral, for the moment. That being said, when she comes back for more - blaming capital flight for fewer ‘broad shoulders’ etc., she has to be a goner, surely…

100% - utter fuckwits, the lot of them.

Clearly, whoever is leaking, has an axe to grind.

As to the banks, they will not like their retail mortgage portfolio revaluations….

They will feel it in the local elections though. Remember the WFA row back after Reform gained and they were shocked from their arrogance for about a minute.

It’ll be that and more if they think it’s only markets and backbenchers.

Fair - but that same arrogance will convince them that they can turn it around for May (you’ve only got to read the nauseating comments by the Labour’s Morgan by way of example).

Starmer will be on reset no. 7 by then, of course.

Haha yes remember those summer resets and autumn ones. I think they’ve given up saying that now 😂

They will be hammered if the two child benefit goes after all this. The WFA was small fry.

Honestly? I think it is the Chancellor herself who is leaking this. Weirdly this government don't seem to like the idea of a Budget which just gets announced and then analysed afterwards.

We currently pay school fees each term from the cash ISA but will move to monthly direct debits from our joint account the day we get paid each month.

Reeves to hit 100,000 high-value properties with mansion tax in Budget (msn.com)

Get ready for the loss of many Domestic Staff who will be the ones who will be sacrificed to pay the extra £4-10 K Per year. House Keepers, Cleaners, Gardeners, Nannies, Drivers, Beauticians, Personal Exercise people all made redundant, This is as well as local restaurants being destroyed, because the people who dined out 4 times a week will cut back to 2 times a week.
Then you have the ones who will just get out of 'Dodge' and get on the first Private Jet/ First Class plane seat out. This, is because despite the money requested in theory being 'Chicken' feed to them, they have had enough of being ripped off and getting no value for money from their taxes and their financial contributions propping out the Luxury 'retail' industry.

I also believe the £2 Million Threshold is for now, i would not be surprised that under the new Chancellor (Nadia Whitmore) that in her first budget in 2026 . Families living in £1 Million pound homes need to pay extra due to the number of Bathrooms, Garden and for having a Driveway and 'Electric Gates'.

I would say we already have him! Reeves is just a figurehead, this is a Resolution Foundation budget

I just came looking for one of these threads, having not posted for a few weeks (too busy with one thing and another) and ladies I'm very amused and heartened to see how many haters of this shitshow of a govt there are here on MN! Thread 21 with an average of a new one every five days is really very impressive 😁

Anyway, having trawled through about 15 threads to find one with space to post I've now forgotten what I was going to say. Mid-life forgetfulness eh? But I'm happy just to be back among my people - it gives me a warm, fuzzy glow.

Yep
We're on the same page.

You can use money market funds which are "cash like" and not completely without risk, but they are a good option if you want to keep more than £12k cash in an ISA. You'd use a stocks and shares ISA.

Thank you. We're all sorted now after finding an IFA who hates Labour as much as I do. Others reading might find your post helpful too.
