Family/partners/housemates etc.

And did you like a houseful or not.

I've lived with 13 different people at different times.

The most at once was 3 but my dad was one of 14 in one house at one point.

I love living alone now 😊

Ddakji · 22/11/2025 13:57

The most at any one time is 3 (+ me).

15, I think. Not including halls of residence or anyone just passing through for a month or so.

BobbieTables · 22/11/2025 14:01

This is one of the things I try to count in order to get to sleep at night (and try to remember all their names). I've lived in multiple shared houses. I think the number comes to about 30 - 40. Most at once is 7 others.

HappiestSleeping · 22/11/2025 14:04

3 plus me at home (parents and sibling)

3 lots of 1 lodger (so, 3 people but 1 at a time)

Then the wife.

Total of 7.

minerva7 · 22/11/2025 14:05

Most I’ve lived with at once was 6 - immediate family.

I think 18 over my life, not including halls just private houses.

Mumofteenandtween · 22/11/2025 14:06

Excluding university halls of residence (where there was 42 of us) and university staircases (where there were 11 of us each year I think) I am on a grand total of 6 people excluding me.

Mum, Dad, brother, dh, dd, ds. Max of 4 at a time.

Unless you include my boyfriend who stayed with us for about 6 weeks the summer after 1st university. In which case my number goes up to 7.

FastTurtle · 22/11/2025 14:07

I lived with 7 people in my life.

The most has been me and four of them and the least me and one of them.

Dearg · 22/11/2025 14:07

I lived with my parents & siblings, & grandmother - 5, then lived alone ( with sleepovers etc) until I got with my now DH.

So actually only 6 others.

Throughout our marriage, DH & I both travelled for work, so I probably spent about 1/3 in total on my own, at that point.

Now it’s just DH & pets. Which is about all I can stand.

MaidOfSteel · 22/11/2025 14:12

A whopping 6! Parents, sibling, a couple of flat sharers at different times when I worked away from home, and now my husband. I lived alone for quite a long time in between and loved it, but I wouldn’t want to go back to that now.

Timesquaredy · 22/11/2025 14:12

I’ve lived with 25 different people, currently living with 3 others (my kids and DH) and the most at one time was 7 of us in a house in second year of Uni.

I’d also be interested to know how many of those people you’ve lived with are you still in contact with?

For me only 5 out of 25. My kids, my husband, 2 friends.

DarkEyedSailor · 22/11/2025 14:15

Oh a lot.
23, not including the women's refuge I lived in for five months, when I think there was about 30 of us including children.

Just me and my daughter now.

QueenClinomania · 22/11/2025 14:16

Growing up was 4 including me.
Then 5 including me, houseshare.
Then just me
then 2,me and husband, then 3 then 4 as outr kids were born.
total of 11 different people. I think. If im adding up right.

Nope. 13. A friend and their child lived with me for a few months.

TrashPanda · 22/11/2025 14:17

9 total, I've never lived alone or with fewer than 2 other people. Parents and sister growing up and then aunt & uncle for a while for work reasons. Moved straight from parents to DP and DS and added 2 more DS since, so currently 4+me.

Edit to answer the still in contact question. 8 out of the 9, aunt & uncle divorced so I no longer see her although I could contact her through social media if I needed to.

AudHvamm · 22/11/2025 14:18

Just counted 37, including family. Not including halls, housemate's partners and friends who've kipped on a sofa for a month or two. Most at one time ~6

What's mad is that that was all by age 35!

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 22/11/2025 14:21

Family of 6 growing up.

Do I include moving in with another family of 4 for a few months ? In which case 10 at once.

11 on my floor halls of residence / shared kitchen. / bathrooms.

6 uni house. ( plus 6 next door as there was a whole in the wall for access)

Then family of 4, now on my own.

in total 25.. plus 11 if count halls.

Solenoid · 22/11/2025 14:23

It depends what you count. I see people aren't including university halls, but what about university private rental housemates? That's definitely living together right down to house hunting together, splitting bills, arguing about cleaning the one shared bathroom and washing up and who used the last of the milk, as well as the good bits hanging out together, cooking and eating together sometimes, being each other's support...

I went to boarding school and shared an actual bedroom with one girl for two years then another for the last two years - I'd think the actual room mate counts although not all the other boarders...

So excluding halls but including the other things, family and house shares before I bought my own place then 27. Maximum at one time six.

AllJoyAndNoFun · 22/11/2025 14:26

Excluding Uni halls/HMO where you didn't choose who you lived with

  • 3 growing up
  • 6 last year Uni
  • 2 London flatshare
  • 2 next London flatshare
  • 1 ex-bf
  • 1 London flatshare
  • Then on my own for 2 years
  • 3 current family and 2 live in nannies at various points.

So 20. Some of these people were in more than one flat- like my Uni flatmates had overlap with London flatmates so I havent counted them twice.

MrsMist · 22/11/2025 14:27

15, including 4 in a flatshare.
Lived alone for a year aged 18 in sc accommodation that came with a job. 5, including me, all at once. Currently 2 of us.

BasilandTom · 22/11/2025 14:28

Early years mum, dad, sister and I.
Then aged 6 it was mum, sister, me, my aunty, my uncle and their 3 children plus my nan in a 2.5 bedroom house, so 9 at anyone time. I bloody loved it and still love having a full house. I tried living on my own and lasted 6 months.

In my 20s I lived in a great share house with 5 other girls - I loved it. Now it’s just DH and I. I like the quiet but still love having people visiting and milling around the place. I’ve told DH that when I’m old to put me in a nice nursing home. I think I’d love it 😂

type1 · 22/11/2025 14:29

I’ve lived with my mum, dad, brother and sister, my husband, my son and my daughter so only 7.
plus 8 cats ☺️

merryhouse · 22/11/2025 14:32

Maximum was for about 15 months me + 8 (2x parent, one grandparent, 5 siblings) - though one of the siblings was at university during term-time. So really the maximum probably me+7, for approximately 14-18 years depending on how strict you are about university terms🙂

Apart from those 8 people: two friends in a house-share during last U year; one H, two Ss. Total 13. Currently me+1.

Ddakji · 22/11/2025 14:42

Timesquaredy · 22/11/2025 14:12

For me only 5 out of 25. My kids, my husband, 2 friends.

Parents both dead

2 flatmates moved to australia and the rest I didn’t keep in touch with anyway.

1 flatmate was friend of DSis, not me

Don’t see ex-H anymore.

So DSis, DH and DD out of 15.

zazazaaarmm · 22/11/2025 14:44

3 growing up
1 boyfriend
6 uni
5 post uni
3 flatshare
2 houseshare
2 house shared
2 flat share
3 House share
4 DH and kids

31, probably missed a few!

Crushed23 · 22/11/2025 14:54

I am one of 4 kids so I lived with 5 people for roughly 19 years. Hated every minute 😁 (I like my space).

House shared at university: 4 years

House shared in London after I graduated: 8(!) years

Bought a flat at 31, moved ex-DP in a couple of years later: 1 year

Back to living alone, which is the absolute BEST.

TheTecknician · 22/11/2025 16:57

Eight, all at the same time at the family home. Two parents, three sisters and three brothers. Gradually reducing in number until I (youngest) left and bought my own home 25 years ago. I've lived by myself ever since. Both parents are long gone but all siblings still alive.

Breathmiller · 22/11/2025 17:03

This was interesting to think about. I have lived with 17 other people at various times. The most was 6 (including me).

I have never lived alone and love being around people but I have often felt its something I should have done at some time. I suppose the only chance now would be if I outlive Dh which I don't like to think about.

(Edited to correct the number, I forgot I was a live in nanny at one point. )
