Family/partners/housemates etc.

And did you like a houseful or not.

I've lived with 13 different people at different times.

The most at once was 3 but my dad was one of 14 in one house at one point.

I love living alone now 😊

When I was a child, and then growing up, my Mum let out rooms in the house. We had maybe 2 lodgers at a time, sometimes 3, and there were 3 of us, so 6 people in the house.
I moved from home into a flat I bought, Shari g with my cousin for a bit and then DH. We then bought a house together, and we had a lodger for a while, but once we had DC it was just us ( 5 people).

Concernedmama2 · 22/11/2025 17:30

Probably around 40 with a maximum of 7 other people at once

CakeHoleinRoof · 22/11/2025 17:32

Hmm.
Only child, me mum and dad at home.
Moved out lived alone.
Moved and lived with a friend and then her boyfriend moved in so 3 of us.
Went to Uni halls of residence, 14 of us on that floor.
House at Uni-4 of us then they all moved out left me alone again.
Two random males around my age eventually moved in, it stayed like this for a bit but the people changed.
Then some females moved in 3 of us again.
Then they left and a boyfriend moved in.
Then we split up and he moved out.
Then I moved in with another boyfriend
Then we split, and I eventually met someone else and me and her moved away together. Then she left me and eventually I moved back in with previous boyfriend as I still owned half the house-stayed there very temporarily while I got osme money together to buy a house where I still live. I took a lodger at one point but they moved out.

Maryberrysbouffant · 22/11/2025 17:33

The most was before I left home and there were 5 inc me. Four have lived in my current house, down to 2 for several years and back up to 3! My preference is 2.

elliejjtiny · 22/11/2025 17:45

9 of us in a 3 bed was the most, that was something i never want to repeat

1st was growing up, just me, mum and dad at first, then my 2 younger siblings as well

Halls of residence, me and 5 other girls in our flat, not sure how many in the whole building

Student flat, me and dh

Back to mum and dad for 10 days

Current house, just me and dh at first, then joined by 5 dc (one at a time, not all at once!)

During covid we found out major building works needed doing to the first floor of the house so we had to move out and live with inlaws. Builders messed us about so much and it took 18 months for them to start and then a 2 month job took 7 months.

Back to our current house in 2023.

If you asked my 12 year old this question he would always include the 4 weeks in the neonatal unit when he was born. We are still in touch with most of his old friends from neonatal via a facebook group.

Solaire18381 · 22/11/2025 17:49

The total number of people I've lived with: 6

Most at any one time: 4

Not very many then, really.

NorWouldI · 22/11/2025 17:50

God, I couldn't count the total. I grew up in a household of five kids, two parents, two grandparents and several aunts and uncles at different times, and I've lived in student houseshares of anywhere from one other person to ten (big, dilapidated Georgian house with servants' quarters and lots of attics), various flatshares, a London squat in the 90s with a circulating population, a commune in the US which had about fifteen people living in the house, and others in tents in the grounds. I suppose that commune was the most people I've lived with at once.

The least people I've ever lived with was on an island with no other human inhabitants, just sheep and seals.

XenoBitch · 22/11/2025 17:58

Family, and twice I have lived with a partner. Family was 5 of us, and I shared a room with my sister into our 20s which was fucking awful.

Never house shared and never will. Will also never live with a man again. Been there and done that. I need my own space.

MiddlingMarch · 22/11/2025 17:58

I've stayed in three flat shares- two with three other people (not the same people the whole time) and one with two other people. Then DH.

Total number of non family members I've lived with... 9 across those flat shares.

EDIT - completely forgot about living in London. That was a house share with 3 others, then a different flat with just one other. So 13 total.

VegQueen · 22/11/2025 17:59

I just counted… 40 people! I spent 8 years in flatshares at uni and early/mid 20s in London. Most I lived with was 6 others in a uni house for 2 years which I loved, still good friends with most of them.

Purplecatshopaholic · 22/11/2025 18:01

Not many. Maximum of 4 others. Been with 1 other, or living alone now for many years.

TheCurious0range · 22/11/2025 18:02

27 not including halls, biggest number at once was 15 others I lived in a massive house at uni, and we only had one shower and one bath! We had one small kitchen and a kitchenette that had a tiny cooker/grill thing and a microwave , one living room. I've been fortunate in that since graduating I've not lived in house shares but lots of my friends have so I'd imagine their numbers would be a lot higher

LastNovember · 22/11/2025 18:04

House share at uni - 3 of us. First post uni house share was 7, then there was a rolling cast in the next house of about 6 I think. Then DH, and kids. About 25 in total, including family and excluding university.

Yourinmyspot · 22/11/2025 18:05

Growing up it was with 2 my parents then 3,4,5 and six as my siblings came along.

Nursing halls of residence don’t know excactly but there were 20 on my floor.

House shared with five friends and loved it.

It’s me, DH and DD now.

Itsnaptime · 22/11/2025 18:08

As a care kid I cannot answer this 🤣 lost count
I've lived totally alone for 3 years now and I love it

RuthW · 22/11/2025 18:08

Mum and dad
husband
husband and daughter
daughter

BitOfAWeirdo · 22/11/2025 18:13

4 growing up - parents, sibling and me.
Then university halls - probably around 200.
Then university house shares - 5 including me. 3 different combinations of the 5 over 2 and a bit years.
Then halls again.
Then a different university for postgrad - a flat of 6 in a complex on campus.
Then a kind of halls but for newly qualified teachers - maybe 50 of us? 7 shared a huge kitchen and a set of bathrooms and shower rooms.
Then I went overseas to teach and had a flat just for me in country 1 and again in country 2.
Then back to UK, in my own house.
Now I live with my DH so 2 of us.

A lot.

I don't really like sharing, apart from with my DH. I used to hide in my room, and try to use the kitchen when no-one else was there. Decades later I discovered I'm autistic which makes a lot of sense.

Redhairandhottubs · 22/11/2025 18:16

The most I’ve lived with at one time is 6 me plus 2 DC, DP and 2
DC.
In total I’ve lived with 11 people (not including uni halls).
Happiest being just me and my 2 DC.

WombatChocolate · 22/11/2025 18:22

Totalled it up - think 25.

Biggest was 8 people for a year as a student.

In the space of about 8 years from 18 to 26 I think I lived in 10 properties with 10 different lots of people.

ShesTheAlbatross · 22/11/2025 18:26

Parents plus two siblings - 4

Various housemates at uni - 10

Houseshare after uni - 12 (not all at the same time but people moved in and out)
Lived with a friend - 1
Another houseshare - 6 (again, not all at the same time)
DH & 2 DC - 3

So 36

TragicMuse · 22/11/2025 18:47

I think it’s 41 people in total not counting short stays or temporary visitors for a few nights. Or partners of flatmates staying over.

No more than 5 or 6 at a time in one house.

I don’t mind a houseful as long as I have a place to escape to. I lived alone for 10 years, I’ve lived with my husband for 20 years. Both have things I like and things which are harder!

TheIncredibleBookEatingManchot · 22/11/2025 19:05

I think 24 altogether, not counting halls of residence.

The most was 6 people in a 2 bed flat for a while in my early twenties. It was a bit cramped.

RedRiverShore5 · 22/11/2025 19:10

14 at different times, lived with parents until 18, then 3 different house shares before marrying at 29

mondaytosunday · 22/11/2025 19:15

Five at any given point. My immediate family. Housemates (five including me). Then me, DH one if his sons and our two . Total different people? 16 over the years.

FruityFrog · 22/11/2025 19:17

Mum, Dad and bro = 3
11 flatmates
2 of those I went on to live with in a house share
Husband
Two kids

So 17.
