Family/partners/housemates etc.

And did you like a houseful or not.

I've lived with 13 different people at different times.

The most at once was 3 but my dad was one of 14 in one house at one point.

I love living alone now 😊

Most at any time was 6 - me, DH our 4 DC and eldest DDs BF . But that only lasted a few months.
Many years with 5 other people-DH and our 4 DC.
One DC has moved out and one at uni so now varies between household of 4 or 5.
Growing up i shared a house with 4, mum dad and 2 siblings. For a short period DGM also lived us when I was young.
But Ive lived with a total of 9 people longer term.

Airher · 22/11/2025 21:58

Most was when I was 16-18. Three housemates and their three kids. One of them was attempting to potty train her 12 month old (huge narc who loved bragging about things) this involved leaving shit stained pants all over the kitchen floor. Came home to a tea towel on fire that had been left on the oven hob which had been left on.
Not enjoyable. Safe to say I LOVE living alone

AncientMoo · 22/11/2025 21:58

33

Most at once was 9 (uni)

And I lived alone for 5 years

SpikeGilesSandwich · 22/11/2025 22:01

I was happiest living on my own. Really miss those days.

ghostiewhisp · 22/11/2025 22:01

My mum, dad and nan at one point
that's it. Went to halls of residence then lived alone since

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 22/11/2025 22:02

21 including DH and DC. 4 in total including me- twice, never by myself.

Alexahelp · 22/11/2025 22:02

I’ve counted 32 across family and various house shares. Don’t count the huge halls I lived in when studying abroad as that’s really a bedsit equivalent!

I had a couple of hairy housemate issues (both due to excess drink) but mostly a lovely time of life.

MiddleAgedDread · 22/11/2025 22:03

3 immediate family
2 at uni
5 at uni
lodger
flatmate

Before that I lived with 2 (mum and sibling) 3 before my parents divorced and after living in that house share 2 (partner and our dc) until we had another dc so currently 3 other people

Babyboomtastic · 22/11/2025 22:19

46!

I'm still in touch (even if just through FB rather than chatting) with 27 of them.

About 30 of these were was a giant student house share which accommodated about 15 people, that I lived in on two occasions, a few years apart - so there was only crossover of a couple of people. Most at a time was 16 of us.

Looking through my Facebook I'm struggling to remember who I lived with, who are the ever-present boyfriends and girlfriends of those I lived with, and who I did a very intense postgrad course with, so spent more time with than anyone I lived with.

It's a lot! I absolutely loved it at the time.

BauhausOfEliott · 22/11/2025 22:34

I lived with my parents and two siblings and for a while my sister’s husband up until I was 19, then I lived in a hall of residence, then lived with five housemates for two years. Then I lived with my ex DP and an assortment of transient randoms he kept inviting to live with us (awful situation) - I think six different people lived with us over three years?! Then I lived alone for several years until I met my current DP who I’ve lived with now for 20 years. I certainly hope never to live with anyone else! So 18 people in total I think.

Apart from my own immediate family (siblings and mum, my dad’s dead) and of course DP, I’m in touch with none of them. I don’t think I actually spoke to any of the others after the day I moved out!

Cherrybomb00 · 22/11/2025 22:37

6 in total, 3 at any given time.
Growing up it was me, my parents and my brother. I lived at home until I moved in with DH and I now live with him and our two children.

TheWibble · 22/11/2025 22:56

Only 6. Mum and Dad, 2 housemates, ex-husband and DD.

Squidwardthesnail · 22/11/2025 23:04

9 people total over my adult life. A flat share with 4 others after uni halls. Then a different flatmate every year for 3 years. Then my exfor 4 years and current partner for the last 6. (And my kids). Not in touch with any nowadays, but if we bump into eachother out and about its amicable.

rainbowunicorn22 · 30/04/2026 13:04

family growing up F M Sister
home shares 5
my soul mate 1
3 marriages 3 plus 2 offspring
1 partner now

Meadowfinch · 30/04/2026 13:13

When I was a child, I lived in a family of eight. I hated the noise, the constant arguments and the lack of privacy.

After that I lived on my own or in uni halls except from 2 separate years with two separate boyfriends, and then one year with partner, ds and partner's two adult daughters. That was awful, more arguments and more lack of privacy, so me and ds have lived together harmoniously for the last 15 years.

Soon ds will go to uni and I'll be back to solo living which suits me fine. No arguing 😊

Girlfrom15YearsAgo · 30/04/2026 13:20

This is really interesting and might explain my introversion and love of being alone.

Only 5 for me.

Mum and Dad when I was growing up.

Two flatmates for a short period at Uni (lived at home initially so didn't do halls or big shared houses)
And then straight to DH (no kids)

I always dreamed of living alone when I was younger but now that the only for for that to happen would involve something terrible happening to DH, the thought really scares me.

scoopsahoooy · 30/04/2026 13:26

26 altogether, the most was 6 of us in a uni halls flat.

Gardenquestion22 · 30/04/2026 13:28

6 at home - mum, dad and 4 of us.
6 at University - 3rd year in a house.
5 - me, DH and his 3 kids.

At the moment it's just the 2 of us - and I rather like it!

Megsdaughter · 30/04/2026 13:29

6 plus me as a child.
2 Ex and DS 1st Marriage
2 DS and DGF
2 Ex and DS 2nd Marriage
2 DS and DGD
2 DH and DGD 3rd Marriage
1 just DH now.

So 11 in total.

Waitingfordoggo · 30/04/2026 13:31

A total of 7 for me.

My Mum, Dad and brother.

Then my best friend for one year.

Then DH (later joined by DD and DS.)

I’ve never lived alone and never lived with more than 3 others (not counting halls of residence).

StarCourt · 30/04/2026 13:32

4 others when younger and lived with my family, 2 boyfriends, 1 husband, 2 separate housemates, now just me and DD. So 10 total

PygmyOwl · 30/04/2026 13:33

When I was growing up - 4 of us (mum, dad, me, sibling).
Not counting uni accommodation (I never lived out).
Then rented flats - 4 friends at different times in different flats. Not more than 3 of us at the same time.
Now - 5 of us (me, DH, 3 DC). DH was the first boyfriend I lived with.

So that makes 11 people in total.

I have never lived alone.

LassiKopiano24 · 30/04/2026 13:34

14, not all at once. That includes Siblings parents, steparents, my children and 2 DH’s.

FastFood · 30/04/2026 13:37

7 in total

  • 4 at home
  • 1 ex-partner
  • 2 flatmates
