Beautiful signs of children in your home

What are some of the beautiful signs of little people’s lives in your home?

In our home there’s a train track running through the hall leading to a castle made of magnet tiles populated by various little figures. One windowsill has been designated the Sticker Window and there are shiny little stickers all over it- achievements from nursery or from trips to the dentist. There are mucky hand and nose prints on the window. The Yoto player is still jingling away from earlier this morning and there are blankets pegged up around his room to make dens.

I always find odd little socks everywhere!

thelifeofgreece · 21/11/2025 09:48

Multiple Hot wheels cars in every room

W0tnow · 21/11/2025 09:48

My babies are all gone. You can keep your fancy Christmas baubles. My tree is full of decorations fashioned from coloured paper and glitter and glue and pictures of chubby little faces with big smiles.

That sounds fabulous OP - i dont have any little people now just a dog who leaves toys everywhere and lies in the way most of the time!

i do have a 13 month old GS who creates chaos when he comes over - looking forward to christmas morning.

Playmobil figures - one on the fireplace, another couple near my desk, some dotted around other rooms and window sills.

I love finding wee drawings under books or on the coffee table.

What an unnecessary and unkind post. I think it’s lovely to see a celebration of children being children, and a refreshing reminder that homes don’t need to be ‘perfect’.

Allsigns · 21/11/2025 09:53

We've dedicated the hallway downstairs to be a gallery, with frames, clips and pegs so they can display anything they create. Otherwise I'm sure there's a way to romanticise the random clothes, books, toys and Halloween sweets scattered around the place but I'm not sure I could match the op for turn of phrase!

What a marvellous come back 🤣🤣🤣 haven't heard that one before!

crackofdoom · 21/11/2025 09:54

A constant trail of random items abandoned throughout the house and the contents of the fridge disappearing on a regular basis (obviously, all the vegetables are miraculously left). Having a teenager is so magical 🤗💫❤🥰

BlackCatGoesHome · 21/11/2025 09:55

She's a teen but not attending school due to variety of physical and mental health problems. I've got Christmas decorations strewn one end of downstairs to the other as she puts up a couple then gets distracted. I've got both Halloween and Christmas window stickers up in the same window. The kitchen is constantly messy as she's forever cooking and baking. Shoes not put away and piles of clothes in random places. I'd rather live like this than in a show home.

Even if it was a bragging post - so fucking what? The op was clearly feeling a bit emotional or sentimental and was asking what visible signs others have in their house of children being present. You hear/see some houses where you wouldn’t know there was a kid there if you weren’t looking at the child themselves.

Oh dear do you need a coffee or a hug? That's an unpleasant reaction to a very nice thread

Look at me, I can be a truly miserable shit! Please mumsnet, praise me for being so rude.

mumonthehill · 21/11/2025 09:56

Their heights on the kitchen door. No dc left now but I miss the finding of random socks and it was a revelation that we actually own more glasses than fit in the cupboard when they are not all in bedrooms!!!

Oh my goodness that is wonderful.

Our flat, when my son was growing up, was never big enough to do anything like that. The most we ever did was leave the train tracks taking up all the living room floor for a few days and then it had to come up.
He used to dream about having a house big enough to have one room dedicated to his trains and railway.
Sadly it never happened .

GreenWheat · 21/11/2025 09:56

I have loved the progression of shoes in the hallway. It used to be cute little trainers of my choosing, now it's a parade of enormous trendy ones they find on Vinted.

Tontostitis · 21/11/2025 09:57

I've got one of those toddler toilet seats. It's attached via magnet to the adult toilet seat. We are currently on grandchild number 6 and every time I see it think of no we will never replace that. Ten years of toddler seats

GoldGold · 21/11/2025 09:59

Just to add OP, that I can find mess overwhelming but this was a nice reminder that it’s not just mess but signs of children being (happy) children. Thank you.

TheendofmrY · 21/11/2025 09:59

I seem to have all the planets of the solar system spread around the house in random places. A completed jigsaw that’s currently living on the floor because it took so long to do it’s too precious to break up but I can’t find a picture frame to fit it in to preserve it for posterity. Muddy chunks of grass off football boots in the porch. So many hand prints on the windows. Magnets all over the radiators.

It’s good to be reminded that these are all things to appreciate rather than being signs that I’m not enough of a domestic goddess.
