Beautiful signs of children in your home

What are some of the beautiful signs of little people’s lives in your home?

In our home there’s a train track running through the hall leading to a castle made of magnet tiles populated by various little figures. One windowsill has been designated the Sticker Window and there are shiny little stickers all over it- achievements from nursery or from trips to the dentist. There are mucky hand and nose prints on the window. The Yoto player is still jingling away from earlier this morning and there are blankets pegged up around his room to make dens.

Making me so wistful for those childhood years . My DCs all grown up and no GC on the horizon. I do have small DCs in my life though and I love the drawer of sippy cups, pacifiers, bottles . And a Paw Patrol toilet seat in a closet if needed. Also have a few bits of artwork still taped up .

The amount of shoes in the hallway every time friends come around….

LegendaryWolfOfMyDreams · 21/11/2025 12:38

We have thankfully evolved out of the collect rocks every time we leave the house phase. Now I can't move for piles of sweaty sports kit and astroturf bobbles which the cat rolls around in. I complain about all the sport stuff but really I'm just so glad that they love getting out and doing things.

I’d forgotten the stick collecting days! There were usually about ten lined up against the wall in the porch, and they all had names and stories and were indispensable.

We’re big fans of wooden animals and figures so often find little spontaneous Holztiger or Ostheimer scenes on various windowsills or table top around the house.

I have loved the progression of shoes in the hallway. It used to be cute little trainers of my choosing, now it's a parade of enormous trendy ones they find on Vinted.

That would be a sweet photo series. Sentimental of course, and the kids will grow up and think 'why on earth does she have so many photos of shoes?'

I love it though. Being a parent has softened me in some ways. Rounded out my edges and make me more whimsical.

It's a lovely thing to celebrate this.

I literally couldn’t deal with that,

I still have random socks on or under the sofa, empty crisp packets in the bedroom and all their school photos on display.

A friend has a little hill of rocks, pinecones and sticks just outside her front door; it makes me smile whenever I pass by.

I have a "Beware of the Children" sign the previous owner left us Grin.

Crunchymum · 21/11/2025 13:31

Maybe a little bit off topic but this has reminded me of my mum.

Years ago when I was a young teen we had this kind of magnetic monkey that lived on the fridge. For reasons unknown my silly mum started leaving it in odd 'positions' after I went to bed which eventually ended up with said monkey in my mug or in the cereal bowl cupboard in the morning. I'd always pop him back on fridge but every morning he'd be somewhere else. It always raised a smile but I never mentioned it and neither did she. I imagine it was my mum's way of engaging her surly teen.

My mum isn't here anymore and I'd not thought of this for years. Such a happy memory. The monkey still lives on the fridge at our family home. I'll say hello to him next time I'm visiting my dad and maybe move him into "handstand" position.

The one I love is my dining table. It's just a cheap IKEA one and it's covered in paint and pen stains. I don't know how I'll ever get rid of it.

Yes mine is the same! My dear MIL bought it for us before she died and I know she would love seeing the marks her grandchildren have made through their crafting, learning to write, colouring in etc.

I’m just catching up with all these lovely messages. A bit dismayed to see something negative right at the start of the thread, but it was deleted before I had to read it anyway. Oh well, it’s not Mumsnet without someone pissing on the parade.

Love reading all of these 🥰 I’ll catch up with more later this afternoon 🧸

I used to find glitter and cheerios in hidden spots for years and years after my kids left home. I do clean behind and beneath heavy furniture but however often I did I’d still occasionally find an odd Cheerios or a few pieces of glitter. It always made me smile.

caringcarer · 21/11/2025 14:53

Art work on the fridge held up with fridge magnets.

frozendaisy · 21/11/2025 14:56

Stuffed (named) baby panda jammed behind/on top of kitchen radiator (they are 17 & 15!)

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 21/11/2025 14:56

All their heights lined up on the kitchen door jam. Clothes and toys strewn about. A Christmas tree covered in handmade baubles and decorations

Playmobil figures - one on the fireplace, another couple near my desk, some dotted around other rooms and window sills.

I love finding wee drawings under books or on the coffee table.

I saw a beautiful post online where someone used to tuck their playmobil people up for bed in little handkerchiefs and pop them in their grandad’s drawer. When she grew up and he died she found some little people still tucked away for bed in his bedside cabinet 🥹

I have a whole wall filled with 20cmx20cm stretched canvas frames with first footprints, painted squiggles, contributions from friends and family visitors...

Literally a gallery wall of children's artwork painted by my children and their friends and relatives over the years.

It started out as a set of 4 and grew as my kids started picking up paintbrushes.

We now have more than 60 filling one wall. It always makes me smile.

This is really beautiful. It’s in these things and actions that we leave a little piece of our soul behind for everyone when we die. I’m sure of it.

I don’t have little people but I’m a big fan of houses that look lived in rather than a show home. Your house sounds lovely!
