Inspired by a box of florentines I picked up in our newly opened Lidl last week.
They were in the Christmas aisle so I assume they're only available for this period.
Need to get another box or three...

Chocolate coins. But they can’t be too thick. Also have to be cold from the fridge to have the correct crackability.

Am taste testing my way through these, and yes they have to be cold- overnight in the car is perfect!
Reading labels to avoid the greasiness of palm oil.
So far the 99p ones in The Range have been best. Usually buy and rebuy the Lidl’s ones but they’re £1.99 a bag now!

I love all the traditional Christmas sweet baked goods with dried fruit and nuts - mince pies, Christmas cake, stollen, panettone, panforte, Christmas pudding…
Our local bakery used to sell these wonderful cardamom knots, but I must have been the only one buying them, as they have stopped doing them 🥲. I’m now forced to bake my own, but they are not quite the same.

marriednotdead · 19/11/2025 07:49

My first experience of Stollen was on a breakfast buffet in a small Berlin hotel many years ago between Christmas and New Year. It can never be beaten, it was exquisite. I can no longer tolerate dried fruit or gluten so I don’t have to worry about spoiling the memory.

IDontHateRainbows · 19/11/2025 07:51

Lobster. Last year tesco were doing mini lobsters for £9 and I get a Lobster claw cracker kit and enjoy pulling the buggers apart and getting every last bit of flesh out.
Only see em in the freezer aisle at Christmas

moneytreeinmygarden · 19/11/2025 07:54

Rich, fruity, boozy Christmas pudding slathered in thick, double cream or finest vanilla custard. OMGGGGG.

Probably just as well its not around the rest of the year as too tempting 🤣

I have been known to have this for breakfast over the Christmas period.

A Brie and cranberry baguette with a glass of seasonal Baileys however currently pregnant and can’t have either 😭😭

Cook the Brie and it’s allowed! You could cut open a baguette, place cutted up Brie on it and toast it to completely melt the Brie. Then smother it with cranberry sauce and eat it. As for the baileys,

try this?

Twisst Caramel Cream (Alcohol Free Baileys) (0% ABV)

Indulge in Twisst Caramel Cream – the smooth, creamy alcohol free Baileys alternative with notes of caramel, vanilla, and coffee. 0.0% ABV delight.

From the Internet:

Richard E. Grant has a well-known addiction to Christmas pudding, which he eats monthly and has stockpiled in large quantities, famously including 27 puddings in his pantry in January. He also enjoys it as a sandwich filling, often with cheese....

If its good enough for Richard E. Grant.... 😅

I thought I was bad when I pan fry leftover slices in a little salty butter.

ChippySauce · 19/11/2025 13:08

@Tomatocutwithazigzagedge I am wondering how on earth you came across this fact?!

I read it a few years ago online, and never forgot it. 😀

Such a likeable guy. And I love this peculiarity.

What do you eat your pan fried Christmas pudding with ?

Brie is fine if you cook it so go forth and have your brie and cranberry in toasties! Can't help you with the Baileys but maybe a festive hot chocolate instead?

emmetgirl · 19/11/2025 17:56

Mince pies! I really don’t like Xmas but I bloody love mince pies!

visionpools · 19/11/2025 18:00

Eggnog! And Yule log.

A big dollop of Gruyere cream.

Some people fry a slice with an English breakfast!

haha! this is hilarious and frankly, I dont blame him one bit! although I am not quite sure it goes with cheese....mascarpone maybe - I bet it would be chefs kiss with mascarpone

FurForksSake · 20/11/2025 12:55

Christmas cake is often served with cheese. Same with alpple pie. Might be regional!

we fry leftover Christmas pudding in butter or brandy butter and then serve it with all the hundreds of creams. And some custard.

rainbowunicorn22 · 20/11/2025 13:07

at Christmas that is the time I go mad with cheese buying; cheddar, cranberry cheese, Caerphilly, spread cheese with pineapple, you name it I like it! added to a fruit cake or box of mixed crackers i like to have a nice feast on Christmas day evening

Try Fortnum and masons ones, you may never financially recover but holy SHIT they're good

I've discovered savoury pannatone whilst with a friend in Italy 2 years ago, it has become a tremendous problem!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 20/11/2025 13:25

The Co Op used to do gravy puffs at Christmas. Like cheese puffs only flavoured like the best kind of beef Monster Munch. We ate bagfuls and they were lovely.

They don't sell them any more. Bastards.
