Inspired by a box of florentines I picked up in our newly opened Lidl last week.
They were in the Christmas aisle so I assume they're only available for this period.
Need to get another box or three...

Nigella's sticky gingerbread. I make a tray of it on Christmas Eve every year. It stores well so can keep us going until the New Year.

I'm so going to try this....not yet though!

Oooh,need to try that!

I have only recently discovered the best way to eat a mince pie and trust me once you try this you will never go back...

First, gently warm the mine pie in the oven. Remove the mince pie lid and pop in a decent spoonful of boozy double cream. Replace the lid. Smoosh the whole mince pie in your mouth. Heaven!!

ChippySauce · 17/11/2025 16:36

The gingerbread sounds amazing.
Also making a list!

@FanFckingTastic i do exactly that but with brandy butter instead of double cream. It’s out of this world!

FurForksSake · 17/11/2025 16:44

Or just stir baileys into clotted cream and shove that under your lid…

This is a staple in our house too - and it gets better with keeping.

Venison stew and rooster potatoes mashed with butter, milk and cheddar seasoned with black pepper

This is our Christmas dinner this year with some pigs in blankets on the side because DS loves them.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 17/11/2025 16:56

Eating the mince pies, and drinking the sherry before Father Christmas visits.

(He could do with losing a bit of weight anyway.)

You know what's even better? Her sticky chocolate gingerbread cake! Same basic recipe but with cocoa and chocolate chips. Lasts a good fortnight and is absolutely gorgeous.

I think it's in Feast.

I’ve never had brandy butter but so many on here have mentioned it now I’m going to have to give it a go

Just googled a recipe and bbcgoodfood mention putting it on toasted panne tonne which also sounds amazing.

Sausagedognamedmash · 17/11/2025 19:19

Co-op cinnamon knots. Delicious shortbread style biscuit covered in crunchy cinnamon sugar. They are so morish I have to limit myself to one box a week in the house.

MoonBugs · 17/11/2025 19:21

@DrPrunesqualer ooo that sounds absolutely delicious too, I will have to try that this year!

Also amazing - panettone toasties with blue cheese and cranberry sauce (or plum chutney) filling.

This just blew my mind! Which kind of panettone are you talking about @Tomatocutwithazigzagedge ? I’m guessing not chocolate chip. 😂

ChippySauce · 18/11/2025 09:45

I really want some panettone right now

Lidl stollen

GameOfJones · 18/11/2025 20:12

Champagne Noisette (Frangelico drizzled into a glass of fizz.) It's the ultimate Christmas treat for me and I'm already fancying one and could make one but force myself to wait until December.

Also roast potatoes cooked in beef dripping. I only ever make them for Christmas Dinner but they are the best.
