I need salt and pepper grinders which actually work

I’m fed up of grinders which stop grinding after a few months. Or where the bottom doesn’t stay on securely after re-filling. Or they block up easily, or are a bugger to re-fill in the first place. My latest purchase were an attractive pair of electric push button ones from Pro Cook (not cheap!) which I had high hopes for. One stopped working after 4 months.

can anyone recommend ones which actually work longer than a few months?

The Peugeot ones are fantastic - last for years and the grind stays the same - you can also adjust how fine you want it. Totally worth it.

Agree. Seems odd that it’s Peugeot but their grinders have a reputation as being some of the best on the market. I’ve had mine for 10 years and they’re perfection. They make better grinders than they do cars. 😂

Peugeot for me - for the pepper. We use Maldon Sea Salt - so we don't need a grinder.

My Peugeot ones lasted less than a year - both broke. Absolute waste of money. am Saving up for David Mellor.

My Peugeot ones failed as well

got the ikea one. So far so good

ive got Le Creuset salt and pepper grinders but don’t rate them as they don’t grind properly , despite brushing the cutters. Really annoying and don’t think they’re worth the higher cost.

Stargazingstargazer · 15/11/2025 21:06

peugeot

Another vote for a Le Creuset set. Mine have been going for years.

I've got the battery light up ones from Tiktok shop, they are better than my expensive wooden ones

Studyunder · 15/11/2025 21:46

I’ve had my Ikea one for years ☺️

Ohnobackagain · 15/11/2025 21:47

Ones made by the brand T&G @crossedlines had them 12 years!

T&G. Crush Grind. Their customer service is amazing too. Dropped one of mine and broke the stopper top, they sent one out FOC.

Ineffable23 · 15/11/2025 22:14

If you don't care what it looks like btw, I bought a "disposable" pepper grinder from Aldi about 15 years ago. It dismantles and I've been refilling it ever since.

JulieJo · 15/11/2025 22:27

We've given up looking for new ones, they all fail. We grind our pepper in an old coffee grinder and put it in a pepper shaker.

My David Mellor grinders are still in daily use after 40 years! Less sharp than they once were but, then, so am I.

IKEA! Wooden ones, cost £9 each and they’re brilliant. Would recommend to everyone. Better than my parents ones that were 5x the price.

Oh they’re £15 now! But still amazing :-)

I haven’t had time to read through all of the thread so apologies if these T&G. Crush/grind mills have already been mentioned.
I’ve had one of each of these for circa 15yrs. No problems at all, still going strong and with the bonus of not leaving salt and pepper residue all over the surface on which they stand.
Thoroughly recommend. Amazon are cheaper than the T&G website.

Cole and Mason used to be brilliant - I had a set that lasted for over 20 years. Bought another, and they were rubbish! Now made in China, I believe.

I bought a set of Peugeot and I rate them. Had them for a few years now and still working well.

I have and I love these:

They’re upright so don’t “leak” and they have a big wide opening that’s super easy to refill. Also have a lid which is nice but not that big a deal.

I also have a Peugeot set which my other half swears by. They’re the OG traditional ones but they’re not as easy to fill or as tidy as the upright design ones.

Yes, the large B&M Bargains ones with the pink rock salt.
Last for months and no issues.
Keep them in a dry place though, away from cooking/kettle steam.

Spoon17 · 16/11/2025 06:03

We bought electric ones from shine about £5 each. Easy to fill and work brilliantly

These ones from Amazon were under £10 and still going strong after 3 years. Best ones I’ve had.

I have one of these for pepper had it 10 years or more.

Well worth it.
