Are there places women can go to have a break/ be looked after?

I have come to the realization that I need to have a complete and total break from my real life, it will only be possible for a week due to my responsibilities so it needs to be really good and restorative, can anyone suggest anywhere? South West of Uk ideally.
must be comfortable, ‘normal’ type atmosphere so not religious. Single rooms, goid quality ideally vegetation food ( not a health farm). Treatments, peace and quiet, that sort of thing.
Any suggestions?

Bedruthan near Newquay. It has a gorgeous spa, wellness stuff, the views are STUNNING and it’s very calm and relaxing.

CactusMama2024 · 16/11/2025 08:32

Ragdale hall? It’s a spa sorry but also a hotel very chilled and restaurants and swimming pools , very quiet

not sure on your location though

Laurmolonlabe · 16/11/2025 09:02

I never really thought about this until my best friend took me for a weekend at Champney's- lovely, enjoy.

Linnytwinny · 16/11/2025 10:29

I just looked at Ragdale hall.

602 pounds per NIGHT!

That is insane. Who would pay that.

I recently stayed at a spa hotel in Portugal. Treatments and meals included. I paid 50 euro per night

Ragdale Hall was crowded and noisy when I went in August. Standards were not great compared to previous visits. It's now in the hands of an American hospitality group rather than the private owners.

That’s disappointing to hear.

BakedandBroken · 16/11/2025 10:51

Champneys is a lot cheaper than Ragdale Hall and fine if OP just wants to chill out and get some pampering treatments. Depends what her budget is, I guess.

Linnytwinny · 16/11/2025 10:51

Who the hell would pay 604 pounds a night to stay in ragdale hall

I'd love to know where this is! It sounds fabulous.

I always know I have a great husband when I see threads like this, I’ve never once felt I need to “get away from it all” and to be looked after. You deserve a break but you also deserve not to have to feel the need to escape.

That's a bit smug and unfair. I have an extremely stressful life as the carer for 3 people. My DH is pretty great but I go away every 3 months to a hotel for a few nights to get away from it all.

I am single and I go away to a hotel every month by myself for two nights!

I just love the relaxing feeling of staying in a hotel

Absolutely. As a carer your nervous system doesn't ever really get to switch off. My husband is brilliant and does loads on top of working FT for us, but making sure I can get away to rest and sleep properly is part of his contribution, not evidence he is not doing enough.

We all have different storms and different boats.

Ragdale doesn’t have many single rooms but you can get a 3 night stay in them for c£300 a night. Once they are gone the supplement for staying in a double by yourself pushes the cost up immensely to £5-600 a night.

A friend has hires a camper van when she wants to just get away from it all. Loads up with snacks, treats and books and heads off. Sometimes she wild camps and sometimes gets an electric hook up on a site. I’m always very envious! She reads, relaxes, sleeps, walks and gets away from everyone and everything.

Otherwise, a decent hotel would give you what you need I think - many have pools/spas you can use as a guest and pay extra for any treatments you’d like.

When I search it on the same webpage. It tells me it is 604 pounds per night.

I guess the single rooms are all sold out until the end of the year

That must be to stay in a double as the singles are all gone. Did you see my screenshot?

response to your edit - yes it’s not a place for a single person to book a last minute break as they don’t have many single rooms available.

Yes. Even the single room is expensive.

290 pounds a night.

It would be cheaper going to a European spa

Choux · 16/11/2025 11:25

@Linnytwinny which spa hotel in Portugal did you stay at?

madaboutpurple · 16/11/2025 11:27

Hi Op, you deserve to be looked after and pampered .I am wondering where you will go to and more importantly afterwards tell us if the place was wonderful. There seems to be lots of choices given by people. Personally I think it will do you the world of good. I reckon you will benefit greatly from things like massages . I wish you all the best. In the meantime maybe we could ask these places do they want a mystery shopper to review there place. I would go along without a doubt.

Ragdale Hall? It’s in Leicestershire, unlike a spa attached to a hotel it’s more of a retreat style spa. They park your car, check you in over a drink and you get breakfast in bed. Lovely grounds, treatments, spa area, classes/gym and meals are in a lovely dining room. Guests on their own can dine alone or choose to join a social table. Lots of places to relax, doze off with a book etc and they often have talks of an evening plus things like yoga/sound baths. Sounds exactly what you’re after. X

I can also recommend Ragdale Hall.
A friend and I go once a year, every summer, as day guests. It's absolutely lovely. I wouldn't say it was personalised service as such though... Once you're checked in, you're left to your own devices. It's beautifully peaceful and relaxing though. The grounds are gorgeous as well.

DialSquare · 16/11/2025 12:20

I go to Gleneagles when I feel like this. I always come back feeling fully refreshed and rested. Coworth Park is also good for relaxation. It helps that they both have Michelin starred restaurants too!

MinnieMountain · 16/11/2025 12:37

What about the Headland hotel? It’s right next to the beach in Cornwall. I stayed in a cosy double which is about £200 a night. The service is excellent.

I remember, when my kids were young and I was working and still with my ex who was a giant baby burden, wishing I could just be in an accident, nothing fatal, but enough to keep me in hospital for a month so I could get a rest 😥

I hope you get the rest you need.

Yesssss. Sorry to hear this. Same here, my friend and I have discussed the same thing, even a short spell in prison I would have considered at one point! 😬😳

HorsesAreRunningOn3LegsTonight · 16/11/2025 15:06

I second Ragdale Hall. I’ve been to some other Health Spas - but IMHO they don’t compare.
It is bliss ! A cocoon of luxury away from the world.
in fact me and OH are off there for 4 nights just after Christmas. We will have treatments, sleep, read, eat fabulous healthy food and return home totally relaxed and revived.
