Are there places women can go to have a break/ be looked after?

I have come to the realization that I need to have a complete and total break from my real life, it will only be possible for a week due to my responsibilities so it needs to be really good and restorative, can anyone suggest anywhere? South West of Uk ideally.
must be comfortable, ‘normal’ type atmosphere so not religious. Single rooms, goid quality ideally vegetation food ( not a health farm). Treatments, peace and quiet, that sort of thing.
Any suggestions?

Some of these places look amazing, I want to go myself!

Are you going to be able to make some changes when you come home though? When the week ends?

I would go with a plan to make changes after the week away. You can’t go on like this. It’s not good for you. I hope you have a wonderful week away x

Some of these look
really good and there is a range of prices.

When I feel I really need some time to myself I book myself into a spa hotel in south east England and am always amazed how good I feel afterwards. I have breakfast in the hotel, lunch in the spa restaurant or by the outdoor pool depending on the time of year and do a small room service order such a charcuterie board. I take some snacks and have a bed picnic. I basically spend 24 hours in various fluffy robes floating around the hotel and spa, it’s bliss.

Another option is a week abroad in an all inclusive hotel, although I know you’ll have the problem of the rest of the family wanting to join you. I’ve done this twice and both times found it heavenly to have that much time to myself and no one to look after or think about.

I hope you book something fabulous.

I’m another Ragdale fan! Went many years ago and I’m determined to go back one day. It’s heaven on earth. The comfy sofas in little corners or in front of a fire, breakfast in bed and food to die for which can be as healthy or as indulgent as you choose. Just perfect for what you’re after.

There's a place in Wales owned by Charlotte Church if the back-to-nature, eco-woo vibe appeals at all.

Weekly Signature Retreat — The Dreaming https://www.thedreaming.co.uk/signature-retreats

I came here to mention this. And I think they have a "pay what you can afford" method of attendance.

HarrietsweetHarriet · 15/11/2025 18:36

Charlotte Church runs a retreat called The Dreaming in Wales. It's set in the estate that used to belong to Laura Ashley. I've heard it's gorgeous (not been myself). Sometimes she joins and sings, there are sound baths, yoga, workshops, meditation, mindfulness, stuff like that x

Ragdale Hall? It’s in Leicestershire, unlike a spa attached to a hotel it’s more of a retreat style spa. They park your car, check you in over a drink and you get breakfast in bed. Lovely grounds, treatments, spa area, classes/gym and meals are in a lovely dining room. Guests on their own can dine alone or choose to join a social table. Lots of places to relax, doze off with a book etc and they often have talks of an evening plus things like yoga/sound baths. Sounds exactly what you’re after. X

Was at Ragdale earlier this month. Can't recommend highly enough. I'd live there if I could

It’s not in the UK but I do think it’s exactly what you’re looking for…

Middle Piccadilly is lovely- and not that expensive. I went there 20+ years ago when I was thoroughly burnt out and was so well looked after- felt v nurtured. It’s not flash at all but it is very caring. It is spiritual but has plenty of massage type treatments too and no one pushes their views on you. Thinking about it- I want to go back

Ahh thank you, I'd seen this before and not noted down the details!

Just a heads-up that you have to share a room, unless you're prepared to pay for an entire 2 bed or 3 bed room to yourself.

I fancy the Charlotte Church place. I don’t drive though and it’s an hour by taxi from the nearest station. You’d think for what they are charging they could organise a group pick-up from the station if needed.

Also the shared room, not sure how well I would get on with that. PP saying her sister went to a retreat and drew her curtain around her bed and didn’t speak, I think that’s an bit unfair on her roommate. How awkward having someone silently enshrined in their curtained area.

you’re there to look after yourself not provide entertainment for others . I guess part of that is putting in boundaries that protect your peace .
if you’re going to socialise maybe that’s not the place for you .

DarkRootsBlue · 15/11/2025 19:39

@neonjumpersurely it’s ’not the place’ for someone who accepts booking a shared room but then wants to shroud themselves in a curtain in silence. I’d rather book a room to myself, but if I had to share I’d pleasantly co-exist and maybe have some ground rules with the other person about how quiet we were going to be with each other. Though maybe the person in question did discuss and sort it out with their room mate, who didn’t find it awkward to tip-top around the silent presence behind a curtain.

andrinaballerina · 15/11/2025 19:53

Ragdale Hall sounds incredible and I’m off to investigate for myself. But thought I’d echo another comment about the Scarlet in Cornwall. When I last went (years ago) the spa team were so caring; at the start of a stay they would do a sort of interview with you, then devise a treatment based on what you wanted/needed. The daily morning yoga classes were just perfect with their sea view - a great way to start the day. I loved their hanging “pods” in the spa - a very comforting and cosy way to spend an afternoon!

Ragdale hall IS lovely, but it is just a spa. A fairly expensive one too, so if you go in thinking you will have this super individualised experience in which staff will cater for your every whim and you won’t see another human until you leave you will be wildly disappointed. I had a gorgeous time but arrived late because I was coming after work and they REFUSED to give me a starter when I went for dinner. Bit tight, as it was only 8.30pm when I arrived. I wasn’t even the last person in the restaurant!

As a matter of interest, did you raise this at any stage? At their price point, they should have been falling over themselves to rectify this glaring omission. Your Ragdale experience wasn’t good enough imo.

That is exactly what put me off going there

Second the Scarlet Hotel in Mawgan Porth. Rooms amazing staff and food great, just really lovely. I see sole women there whenever I go (I typically these days rent a house nearby and visit/eat there, but I have stayed in the past ). Love it.

This looks fabulous thank you. I’ve googled for ages looking for places but never come across this.

Thank you OP for this thread. Clearly much needed
