Are there places women can go to have a break/ be looked after?

Burntout01 · 14/11/2025 21:23

I have come to the realization that I need to have a complete and total break from my real life, it will only be possible for a week due to my responsibilities so it needs to be really good and restorative, can anyone suggest anywhere? South West of Uk ideally.
must be comfortable, ‘normal’ type atmosphere so not religious. Single rooms, goid quality ideally vegetation food ( not a health farm). Treatments, peace and quiet, that sort of thing.
Any suggestions?

I'm so sympathetic

but I've noticed that the vast majority of women who want this are with men who are selfish uncaring pricks who are happy to exploit their wife's need to ensure that the children are well looked after.

So I'm suggesting as an alternative - confront your selfish uncaring prick husband.

honestly - I needed this Meroe I hd a psychotic breakdwon thatnewarly killed me and took everythign form me. and after the breakdown doctors realised there were so many problems in my marriage that had got me to that point of stress so bad I sot my mind and everything about me

I would love to do this especially as it's convenient for me but being in the highlands with a house full of family I still freaked out at night so I wouldn't get any rest at all doing this on my own 😅Its the dream though.

Hahaha I know the feeling I went to a golf course huge cabin in the woods in northern Arizona when I lived there in 90’s. gorgeous by day, night come went to bed and omg I totally could not sleep it was so damn scary when I looked out it was just tree trunks as far as u could see, pure black and I just pictured Freddie Kruger coming right for me, like just he was stepping out from behind a tree! Talk about you mind running away with you lol scared myself silly Never again hahaha have been to many a Scottish loch tho including camping and never felt the same scary way.

Ragdale Hall? It’s in Leicestershire, unlike a spa attached to a hotel it’s more of a retreat style spa. They park your car, check you in over a drink and you get breakfast in bed. Lovely grounds, treatments, spa area, classes/gym and meals are in a lovely dining room. Guests on their own can dine alone or choose to join a social table. Lots of places to relax, doze off with a book etc and they often have talks of an evening plus things like yoga/sound baths. Sounds exactly what you’re after. X

I was also thinking Ragdale. It’s in the middle of nowhere, it’s very calm, you can do as much or little as you like. As for ‘looked after’ it’s hotel-like looked after, not pampered like ‘going home’ in your 20’s. But it’s beautiful and quite upmarket and you would definitely be able to disconnect. You can be in a robe all day and nap anywhere!

PodMom · 15/11/2025 21:05

Champneys? Not sure how it compares to Ragdale Hall but similar set up I think.

You’ve just given me a great idea. I could offer this!

If you were my houseguest you would get comfy, private quiet bedroom with access to the garden and separate bathroom. Very quiet house in a rural hamlet, near an amazing vegan coffee shop, close to a lovely village with traditional tea room, beautiful church, decent pub and near a stunning little town. Excellent food which could be bespoked to tastes.

Wonder if there is a market for it.

I’d book. I’m 47 and my Mum died 8 years ago, I miss her badly. My children are still small and I work an incredibly stressful job 5 days, as does my husband. I have zero down time. I have no cheerleader. I have no-one to ask if I’m doing any of this right. My family fell apart really after she died. I would absolutely kill to go home for a cuddle, to be given tea and cake, my favourite blankets on the bed, and watch old bond movies by the fire with a dog, and my Mum on that opposite sofa with some Maltesers and the cat. That feeling of wanting to go home is an absolute killer

I’m a lot older and my mother was never the person to do any of that so I’ve always had to manage on my own. So yes, please

CosySeason · 15/11/2025 21:13

My friend has done various health retreats. Sounds like bliss! I would love to be looked after for a few days like this, meals provided and only myself to think about, no chores.

MolvolioPortesque · 15/11/2025 01:32

I need this, but a grieving retreat where I can just get away from everyone and hibernate. Perhaps one at some point to meet other grieving mums.

I’ve seen this on TikTok in the UK - it exists. It’s run by ex-midwives I think. It looked quite new-age. I seem to remember it involved Labyrinths in some way. If I find it I will come back and message you, but this definitely exists. (Grieving TFMR mummy)

I've often wondered if Ragdale Hall is worth that kind of money

Or any of those places really.

Aren't the common areas quite busy and noisy? So if you really need quiet, you're kind of stuck in your room. And everyone has a phone everywhere they go.

I had a special offer for Champneys a couple of years back and people were watching videos on their phones in the restaurant.

So I grew up not far from Ragdale and know it well but I’ve lived in London last 20 years and I’ve been to a lot of central London and South West London/Surrey spas, including The Sanctuary at Covent Garden when it was still open. Ragdale is nothing like any of those places. Ragdale truly is a cut above.

LunaTheCat · 15/11/2025 21:31

Looking at some of these. Isn’t it wonderful the people who have set up retreats for disadvantaged women and children. It’s mind boggling that people still do that

MumOfThreeChaos · 15/11/2025 21:51

Oh my gosh can we all come?!! 😂

Intsywintsyspider · 15/11/2025 22:15

I’ve been here, it’s in Dorset in beautiful countryside. It’s affordable with amazing therapists. The facilities are homely rather than luxurious

Pack books and go
up the Scottish highlands. Get a little cottage on a loch some food and wine and switch ur phone off listen to the rain and chill tf out

That would definitely do it for me

ADHDHDHDHD · 15/11/2025 22:53

An all inclusive week away in the sun? I’d look
at Jet2.
the glasshouse is more a sleb detox place I think. No alcohol
there are cruises that depart from English ports. Doesn’t really matter the weather/ where they are going to. Comfort relaxation and all inclusive. Ambassador cruises I think they are called.

Is this thread an advert for Ragdale Hall?

No I think lots of us are just big fans of Ragdale. I am too, been many times and going again next month. There’s loads of quiet areas where phone use is banned so you get proper quiet. Lovely atmosphere and great staff. Highly recommend.

Look up “Ladies who Lit” - might be just what you need if you are a reader

Yeah. This is all just an advert thread with a few of us innocents captured in the dredging.

ah I never had the pampered going home in my 20s experience so this sounds fantastic!

I always know I have a great husband when I see threads like this, I’ve never once felt I need to “get away from it all” and to be looked after. You deserve a break but you also deserve not to have to feel the need to escape.

God no, OP! I stayed there for a couple of nights this summer, having previously greatly enjoyed my day visits there, and I couldn't believe how noisy the hotel part was. Corridor doors slamming LOUDLY as often as every few seconds, from early in the morning until late at night (I'd estimate 7 am to 11 pm). I'm talking slams that shake your entire room; no chance of blocking them out. No chance of a lie in. I couldn't bear to spend time in my room, which is not great when you've paid a fortune for peace and quiet. I couldn't believe that they wouldn't think to adjust the door closers at a "luxury" hotel advertised as a retreat!

Music from the fitness studio and overly loud muzak from the dining areas could also be heard in my room most of the day and into the evening.

I wouldn't stay there again.

It's hard as an introvert to not want to switch off completely for a few days occasionally, however good your home life is. My husband is great and a truly equal partner, I make sure I get time alone each week to chill but the idea of a full day or two of complete quiet and relaxation still sounds amazing.
