A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

Bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

A JRM calendar is the PERFECT secret Santa for a colleague of any ilk.

Rexinasaurus · 11/11/2025 19:32

I’m surprised.

I was cancelled by the BBC for telling the truth about immigration. I was warned I’d never work there again if I spoke about the issue.

Just as with the homeless couple, these people had a unique insight into the failures of the welfare state. But the BBC’s sympathies lie with those who work for the welfare state, less so with its uppity customers. Once more I was proving a liability.

Radio Four rejected our pitch and told my editor I was too Right wing.

The BBC producer had warned me, “You will never work at the BBC again if you question immigration”. She was right. I never did.

Although it would have a certain je ne sais quoi if said colleague was a raving Labour supporter….

Ah, but was the author ‘working’ or ‘not working’ at the BBC?

You do have to look quite hard for one of them these days - especially one with a job in order to be a colleague.

The biggest Toff of all time of course is 'Shaun Woodward' he was a perfect fit for St Helens North . He really understood what is what like growing up in a 'Working' Persons town in the North with generational Labour supporting families.

Here is a controversial thought: If the Labour Party had developed in the way it was intended to by Clem Atlee and Bevan it would today look remarkably like Reform. The reason it does not is down to the Marxists, Communists and the Champagne Sipping Celebrities who are so virtuous . This is the reason why Angela Raynor has a possible chance to be elected in a prosperous 'Woke' town of Hove than to be destroyed in a 'gritty' Ashton Under Lyne.

Damnthetorpedoes · 11/11/2025 19:14

Haha.

Is it like the Pirelli calendar, with JRM in varying degrees of undress?

Actually, please don’t answer that!

Given that half the bbc staff seem to work (not not work) through tax evading limited companies (paying themselves minimum wage whilst taking dividends of much higher values) allegedly, I guess she was indeed a working person. Still not Starmers kind of working person. Working people aren’t far right lunatics who - shhh - question the hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants entering the uk.

redange · 11/11/2025 19:41

Think how difficult writing University Essays were for me and how long they took.

Right, got it - thanks for the clarification!

I'm catching myself feeling almost sorry for Lammy.

@MantleStatue and @38thparallel I had a fabulous time. Went a bit heavy on the mulled wine so we were a bit merry on the way home!
Yes the decorations are up 47 trees this year. The illuminated walk was magical and the view, my word Capability Brown had an eye for the future.
Can't say the same for this government (just to keep on topic!)

Really not surprised by this. Immigration is the BBC’s strongest status quo sell.

“EU border management figures show that, in the first eight months of this year, 112,000 people crossed illegally into Europe – down 21% from last year, said The Economist. That’s “an even more impressive” 52% drop from the comparable period in 2023, and an astonishingly small number compared with 2015, when “the continent’s biggest flows of refugees since the Second World War” saw over a million people enter Europe on asylum routes.”

Thanks for the JRM calendar suggestion. I have just bought it from amazon for the DH of a friend of mine.

I had tried to buy him this... but when I ran it by my friend she said she had already got him one.
