Commonly Seen spelling errors/word swaps that you're itching to correct?

Prefaced by the fact i'm in pain, in the aftermath of a migraine (still have a headache) and have the tolerance of dewdrop for anything today...

I was reading on social media this morning, and i noticed that there seems to be some common word swaps going on recently that i'm seeing more and more regularly.

I'm aware that some people are dyslexic, or may have only heard a word and not seen it written, or english is second language..etc, but then you feel (and look) like a twat if you correct it on the off chance one of those things is the issue.

aloud, instead of allowed
the usual there/they're/their error
towed (the line), instead of toed,
reef instead of wreath
pacific instead of specific

Any others you've noticed.. and do you just ignore or correct?

My predictive text on my phone can be an ass, so can my speech to text thing.. doesn't like my accent unless i speak RP style, which i hate doing!

I've had a few predictive text disasters over the years. The most memorable was in the competitors' manual for a children's sporting event I was running. I had intended to write the following advice for parents re lost children. "If you become separated from your child/ren please report to Sign On immediately". For some reason, my laptop autocorrected "Sign On" to "Dignitas". It's true that some of the parents can be a bit annoying but I felt this was a little extreme!
I don't use speech to text but I probably wouldn't have much joy given how frequently my car misunderstands me. Possibly the best ever was when I asked "Navigate to Tebay Services". After some delay I got a reply along the lines of "Your journey is 4450 miles and includes 23 charging stops." Given I was in Liverpool at the time this was something of a surprise. I then looked at the screen to see a route to Tibet.
Technology, you've got to love it!

When people use "bare with me" when it's actually "bear with me".

Tillow4ever · 06/11/2025 14:39

Oh I hate it when I see “payed” instead of “paid”.

My real pet hate though is people that use i.e. when they actually mean e.g. I saw someone do it on here a few days ago that claimed to be a teacher…

Oh and mixing up affect/effect!

Que or queue instead of cue seems to be popular lately.

It's ben awhile since we had on of these.

I think the mane reason people get upset about it is because there not very good at grammar themselves. Having an education is all we'll and good, but knowing how to have proper grammar is just lost on some people.

Did you do that on porpoise?

😂

FairlyOddmother · 06/11/2025 14:50

Heals instead of heels.

Daisypod · 06/11/2025 14:55

Suddenly this year I’ve seen Trickle treat instead of trick or treat numerous times, sets my teeth on edge!

YorkieTheRabbit · 06/11/2025 16:19

Me instead of my.
Plus lots of others already mentioned. Although my all time favourite is cunt instead of couldn’t 😂

HoppityBun · 06/11/2025 16:31

Mixing up personal pronouns.

“Me and my husband went…” No one says “Me went….” after the age of about 5, so why the baby talk when someone else is also involved?

Then there’s “My friend gave it to my husband and I” again, everyone can hear that unless you’re a West Country pirate, you don’t say “My friend gave it to I”, so what’s going on?

whattheysay · 06/11/2025 16:31

Phased instead of fazed. I also see his instead of he’s. Loose instead of lose. Your/you’re , they’re/there/there, some people don’t know women is the plural of woman.
I see so many I just can’t count anymore

Abra1t · 06/11/2025 16:38

Reign it in instead of rein it in.
A click (clique)
I didn't used to do something instead of 'didn't use to'.
Give it to John and I.

LetsPutTheKettleOn · 06/11/2025 16:38

Should and would “of” instead of should have/could have. I’m sure that’s been mentioned already on here

Alltheburpees · 06/11/2025 16:39

Incorrect use of ‘myself’. Its everywhere. People think it makes them sound posh.
‘Could you pass that to myself?’

YES! This!!

I work in care and my teeth grate every time I see that a client has had a ‘bowl movement’. Washing up bowl?

Imsixtyandiknowit · 06/11/2025 16:53

Myself when they mean me.

RandomUsernameHere · 06/11/2025 16:56

Agree with all of these, plus “of” instead of “have”.

Probably, (although extremely tedious it is too) as there are many, many other errors.

dailyconniptions · 06/11/2025 17:10

Breath, when breathe is meant. (Screams...)

Could be fun!

thatswhatiwant · 06/11/2025 17:42

Ect instead of etc tender- hooks

Allseeingallknowing · 06/11/2025 17:46

My sil says “I don’t no” Aaaagh!

Mine auto corrects on to UN… because obviously I’m far more likely to be talking about the United Nations than use the word “on” 🙄

Do you think we could set up a training program? It's either that or the naughty step!!

PutYourSpecsOnJean · 06/11/2025 10:45

Slither instead of sliver "Another piece of cake?" "Well maybe just a slither" (saw it in a book yesterday)

Distain instead of disdain seems to be gaining traction too

ETA maybe I shouldn't be so quick to judge! - had to edit my post twice for an erroneous extra 's' and a missing 'a'!

Edited

In a book? Bloody hell. You expect more from a book that's been published than posts on here/SM

Discusting instead of disgusting. If you’re spelling it like that you’re saying it like that. Grrrr
