Yes, I'm bored.
Waiting in the car for DCs to come out of school so decided to clear out my bag and found my coin purse.
I have exactly £12.75 in cash to my name.

About £500 in notes. I rarely use cash so I seem to accumulate it when people owe me money or when the kids get gifts, as they want it in their bank accounts.

BlackStrayCat · 05/11/2025 13:09

About 3,500 pounds.

I have certainly been refused withdrawals of more than 2,000 without masses of IDs and paperwork.
I usedthe bank for bills only.
I am absolutely sure the banking system will be hacked at some point.

Me too it’s just numbers on a screen at the end of the day. From reading this thread I’m shocked at the amount of people who wholeheartedly trust banks and don’t have at least a couple of thousand at home for emergencies. It’s crazy.

What sort of emergencies?

BlackStrayCat · 05/11/2025 15:21

banking system hacked. Like airports, M&S, Landrover etc etc

If the entire banking system is hacked and stays down for any length of time your cash would be useless anyway. And in a short term outage, what would you need thousands for?

danglethedingle · 05/11/2025 15:43

I've got £1000 stashed hidden in the house in case of emergencies, I've got £100 cash to do the weeks shopping with, about £10 in change in the car for parking, and about £35 in my purse which is left over from last months food money. I will be putting that towards the Christmas meal budget.

BlackStrayCat · 05/11/2025 15:44

You seem oddly insecure about your stance. As you keep arguing with those with a different view point.
I am not.
3.64 down the back of the sofa does not fill me with confidence.
Other people make other decisions than you and I was answering the OP.

mindkey · 05/11/2025 16:18

About £500 in cash - in the safe and about £20 in £1 coins

Ok lol. You're in chat and I asked you one question. No need to be so sensitive.

Boomer55 · 05/11/2025 16:52

About £500 in cash in the safe (emergencies) about £50 in purse, and a bowl full of small cash which is probably about £30.

You know a lot of people don’t actually have any savings at all for emergencies, whether it’s in the bank or not?

Ok what’s that gotta do with me

Isanyonereallyanonymous · 06/11/2025 23:19

I have my food/going out budget in cash, an envelope for each week, so there's £100 there to last until the end of the month.
I have some money under my mattress from selling a bike (not an expensive one sadly. It's just a place in likely not to go and dip into the money from so I can save it for the next bike)
Probably about a tenner in the loose change moneybox.

I used cash as much as I can, I find it much easier to budget this way and stick to it!

Jaq27 · 07/11/2025 13:44

7 pence until I checked the folded bit of my wallet and found a creased fiver. Nice.

Howinthehelldidthishappen · 07/11/2025 13:59

Exactly £120. But that is for the teens driving lessons over the next 2 weeks, so I can't really spend it.

Mikart · 07/11/2025 14:20

£50 in the house and £1 coin for trolley. Never use cash

Mammyloveswine · 07/11/2025 15:44

£10 note in my purse, a pound change from school for disco tickets in my bedroom and €10 I’ll take to Amsterdam when I go next week as it’s been leftover since I went to Italy 18 months ago

PollyannaWhittier · 07/11/2025 22:40

I usually have quite a bit of cash, most of it scattered in random places. Can't be bothered rounding it all up, but there's definitely a £10 in my phone case, £5 in my coat pocket, £5 in the fleece I had on yesterday, at least £30 each in two different purses, ~£20 in my hiking rucksack. Plus coins in many bags, pockets, little piles on tables / bookcases / car cup holder. I'm very bad at keeping track of money Blush
