Yes, I'm bored.
Waiting in the car for DCs to come out of school so decided to clear out my bag and found my coin purse.
I have exactly £12.75 in cash to my name.

Not risky at all, it’s kept in safes that are fire proof and not in the house as such. Smart people don’t keep it under a mattress or in the bottom of a cupboard. It’s well thought out

Just seems bizarre that she should take responsibility for your money as well as her own because you deem it too risky to have all of yours in your own house 🤷🏻‍♀️. But each to their own.

Not just mine, 6 other family members money too. I have some of my daughters money here, this is what we do as a family, we help and look out for each other.

Also it’s swings and roundabouts because I find what you do bizarre. I could never trust the banks with my money

caringcarer · 05/11/2025 10:26

I keep a few hundred pounds in the fire safe and I know there are a few thousand euros there too because you lose money changing them back to pounds so I never bother I just keep them for next holiday. There is a few quid coins on the car and I have a £20 note in back of my phone. If I need anything I can use my debit card.

JBJ · 05/11/2025 10:43

About £100 in a cupboard in the kitchen for emergencies, plus £15.82 in my purse. Probably another couple of quid in the car, a tenner in change in my emergency/hospital bag and €52 from my last trip to Spain.

Well it’s cash in accounts but not physical no…imagine it all in my mattress 😂

Why would you not take it out of your mattress & pay it into a bank ?

No, the thing I find bizarre isn’t that you trust your mum, more that you’re putting so much risk on her shoulders rather than taking on that risk yourself. I’d never put my mum in that position. But as I said, each to their own.

Edited

I do take the risk on myself I have my daughters money, and my grandmother has my mum’s money and so does some of her sisters. If anything was to happen we wouldn’t blame that person or ask them to pay it back. It’s all our risk.

It's mad to me that you'd all take that risk. One of you gets robbed, you all get robbed. A falling out, or money "goes missing"... and you're all missing out on free money (interest). For no good reason.
Where is all the cash coming from anyway? You're all working cash in hand?

Like I said it’s no risk, we are a close family and no chance of being robbed safes are well hidden. Interest isn’t worth keeping money in bank. It’s withdrawn from bank once it hits

Hmmmmwineandchocs · 05/11/2025 11:26

Cash in my purse i have £58

It's never "no risk".
Interest is free money you're all missing out on. And you don't have enough money for it not to be worth it. But you do you.

far riskier keeping it in the bank imo

Apologies I’m still not clear on what you believe the risk of keeping it in the bank to be? Deposits are protected up to £85k by the FSCS, per registered establishment.
Is it similar to the risk that the government were microchipping us with the Covid vaccine?

Banks going down, asking a billion questions about why you want to withdraw, asking for invoices of things you want to buy before they will hand over your money. Control really. I prefer having money I can access I don’t need to be policed on what I’m spending my money on.

Fraud prevention measures aren't "risks." They aren't policing what you spend your money on.

But why do you think any of those things are going to happen?

Mumofteensandcats · 05/11/2025 12:10

£30 in notes and about £5 in coins that I've been carting around for bloody ages as I keep thinking it will be handy for tips! Do I remember to actually take it out though is another question!

69,425.07 between 4 of my own accounts excluding the joint account which has 5918.

That is not cash

Hoppinggreen · 05/11/2025 12:17

£33.45 in my purse and £2 in the car

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 05/11/2025 12:27

My husband "put my purse back where he found it" two weeks ago and it hasn't been seen since.

So I'm penniless.

pottylolly · 05/11/2025 12:29

£300. Possibly more if we raided DH’s car parking coin stash.

Troublein · 05/11/2025 12:46

A few thousand at home in pounds, similar amount in euros.
I like filling those saving boxes you get that have a £10,000 target.

About £250 in my purse and £250 in the kitchen which is our emergency fund for things like getting a cab home if banks go down/bag gets stolen, both of which have happened.
Also gets used to pay the gardener/window cleaner/ironing/decluttering lady if I've forgotten to get their money out.

I top those back up to be £250 anytime they get used.
