Confirmed by police about half an hour ago that the 35 year old arrested has been released without charge.

You’d have thought if there was the slightest bit of truth in that statement that the Daily Mail would have had that flashing like a Belisha beacon from their front page. But nope. Nothing. Not even the slightest whiff. So I’d say it’s a load of claptrap.

Rudakana had Al Qaida manuals and instructions for making ricin in his bedroom, yet it wasn't a terror related attack 🤔

No because his behaviour had escalated well before any of that - so was not his ideology rather than what he had read after the already damaging thought he had for years in which help was seeked for but refused.

You can not work out why just one other person was arrested not charged and released out of all the other people on the train

who happens to be of Caribbean descent

of course this shall be looked into why was he arrested

Because he fit the description of the attacker. The 79 yo white womans didn't.

not exactly complicated.

OnlyOnAFriday · 02/11/2025 19:18

Olly Foster, a passenger on the train, told the BBC he initially heard people shouting "run, run, there's a guy literally stabbing everyone", and believed it might have been a Halloween related prank.

It’s is more complicated - you want to believe rhay but the police tasered the man holding the knife when he got of the train. Actual Eye witnesses accounts on the news state they saw him get off the train with the knife.

ChestnutGrove · 02/11/2025 19:18

Probably another mentally ill person like the Nottingham attacker.

wordler · 02/11/2025 19:15

It’s not like on NCIS - it takes time to get hold of footage, view it, confirm the right people etc.

Then there’s probably a lot of paperwork etc to get through when you’ve wrongly arrested someone in a situation like this.

And we don’t know when exactly he was released before they announced it.

True, guess it could take some time to actually get the cctv.

WeCouldBeNiceToEachOther · 02/11/2025 19:09

The difference being you are white and haven’t been racially discriminated against your entire life. They had tasered the guy that did it.

How hard is it to understand. They tasered a guy who they thought might have done it. They were told by witnesses that another man was involved as well. They arrested him but then when it turned out he had nothing to do with it they released him. It's not hard to envision the chaotic scenes involved.

StarDolphins · 02/11/2025 19:20

BerryTwister · 02/11/2025 18:58

I agree.
If this man fitted the description of the attacker, then surely everyone can agree he should have been arrested? Or are you all saying that no black men should have been arrested because it’s racist to do so? If the attacker had been described as a white teenage girl then yes, it would have been outrageous to arrest a black 35 year old man. But I doubt that’s what happened.

Absolutely👏

Keepoffmyartichokes · 02/11/2025 19:21

It says on BBC news that the second man was arrested as the police where told in good faith that the was also involved but they have confirmed he wasn't. So a good job done by the police as far as I am concerned.

DoYouKnowMyName · 02/11/2025 19:21

TheFrendo · 02/11/2025 19:12

People have had life changing injuries and you worry about the arrest of a second man!

Unbelievable, almost a spoof.

It’s chilling, isn’t it? Got to remove the focus from the victims, some of whom are fighting for their lives. I think we all know why.

Crikeyalmighty · 02/11/2025 19:22

My H ( at the time early 30s) was once doing a course in London with a really lovely ‘geezer’ black guy ( mid 20s)

one day he was stopped in the car ( black guy driving) by police for no reason whatsoever - both ordered out the car and guy asked to produce his documents - when he asked what for was told ‘watch your lip’ — my H was horrified at the manner used against this totally innocent of anything pleasant jolly black guy- I’m all for weeding out drug dealers and criminal arses but I do query whether they would act in this manner against a couple of white guys who they had nothing on

MsGinaLinetti · 02/11/2025 19:22

The man who was protecting others is still critically injured. Those passengers must have been terrified. I just hope he recovers.

attichoarder · 02/11/2025 19:22

Very sad that this thread is now seeing the police as villains - they were just doing their job as I said earlier. They will have acted upon what little they knew when the train stopped - it will have been chaotic.

There is no time to dither or give the benefit of the doubt in these moments. The police have to gain control and minimise risk to further lives being lost. That might mean innocent people are arrested because they match the description of the perpetrator given by other witnesses. As long as these innocent people are then released, it’s good policing.

I don’t think they are villains at all.
I think it’s ok to sympathise with the poor man though !

True, guess it could take some time to actually get the cctv.

According to network rail website transport police can actually view live train cctv from stations. And it’s also available immediately from a train at a station during an ongoing incident. How this works practically I have no idea. I know at my local train station the police have a mini police station there , maybe that’s not the case at Huntingdon

Leavesfalling · 02/11/2025 19:25

The issue of the poice failing to arrest possible criminals for fear of being accused of racism is pretty topical. I would assume most people of all ethnicities would far rather they arrest a possible attacker and then release him if he's innocent than any hesitation on their part leading to deaths. Surely?

I also dont know why everyone has decided the attacker has mental health issues? Or why everyone seems to know and understand his motives? Can he not just have decided to go and try and murder people? Why is he not a terrorist? Do we know that? I'm clearly reading the wrong stuff.

This is been raised for many years. Plainly it’s usually true.

It seems more likely that the second guy was swept up in the arrest as the other black man at the scene. This is what we have come to.

To be fair, I spotted several other black men in a group of passengers on the platform - at least one of whom had a foil blanket over his shoulders. They were obviously not arrested, despite being black men at the scene as well.

Sounds like it…I’m sure there will be an enquiry, fingers will be pointed at some poor scapegoat, lessons will be learned, etc. and the problem of underfunding and understaffing everything will continue.

Which is the award that's given for gallantry? Is it the George or Victoria cross? Either way this man deserves it.

Rudakana had Al Qaida manuals and instructions for making ricin in his bedroom, yet it wasn't a terror related attack 🤔

The Terrorism Act 2000 defines terrorism, both in and outside of the UK, as the use or threat of one or more of the actions listed below, and where they are designed to influence the government, or an international governmental organisation or to intimidate the public. The use or threat must also be for the purpose of advancing a political, religious, racial or ideological cause.

They weren’t able to establish a cause.

He also held material described as anti Islamist, antisemitic, materials about Nazis etc.
This was widely reported.

He had an interest in extreme violence.
