Just that really. When do you put your tree up? Also do you make it a family tradition and let children help or do it alone so it’s perfect lol

First weekend of December. We play Christmas music, eat mince pies and decorate the tree as a family (then I fix it when the kids have gone to bed!).

We usually do the first weekend of December too, but we might go slightly earlier this year and put it up on Sunday 30th November. It’s a fake tree, ultra narrow so it can fit neatly into a corner of our tiny living room, so I don’t get tree fatigue and want it down earlier if it goes up earlier. I love it and miss it when it’s gone!

We watch The Muppets Christmas Carol whilst decorating, and there’s always Christmas treats out for snacking on. We always start off doing it as a family but it always ends up with me finishing it off while the rest of them sit round eating the treats and critiquing it!

First weekend of double figures in December (so 13th/14th this year).
Was always done then by my parents so have kept up the tradition.

About half way through december. If I can be bothered.

ThirdStorm · 31/10/2025 10:24

Aiming for 14th December.

TeenLifeMum · 31/10/2025 10:25

First weekend of December - dc do it but I used to tweak to balance the tree a bit. They’re older and are pretty good at it now.

RaraRachael · 31/10/2025 10:26

About the second weekend in December but it's down around the 27th.

I love the build up to Christmas but once the actual day is over I can't be bothered with any of it

ToKittyornottoKitty · 31/10/2025 10:27

First weekend of December, but if we are busy that weekend we sometimes go a week earlier or later. Kids decorate the tree, that’s why it’s perfect.

Hmmmmwineandchocs · 31/10/2025 10:27

First weekend in December but might be a few days earlier this year.
My daughter has a tree in her room and Christmas window stickers so she goes off an does her room, i do the the 2 trees downstairs (fake ones) while
listening to Carols from Kings on the Alexa and drinking either port or Baileys

Grumpynan · 31/10/2025 10:31

About the 15th any sooner and I think it’s looking tired and dusty by Christmas..

when the children were small we had a tradition of collecting them from school on the last day and going to a garden centre to get a real tree via a park that has deers roaming to see if we could spot Rudolph. It would be put up in the dinning room and the children could decorate as they liked. The main tree always goes in the living room which I do with DH about the 12-15 ish depending on work etc

itispersonal · 31/10/2025 10:32

normally first weekend in December but I think it will nov 30th this year!
we do similar to other pps - Christmas music whilst putting it up, then first Christmas movie of the year after it’s done and all the Xmas lights on, first advocaat and lemonade of the year and a take away! Cant remember if I put £20 in for a takeaway like people had said to do!

Tree is always down before the new year though!

itispersonal · 31/10/2025 10:33

We also have 3 trees. One in lounge, one in dining room (different floors) and dd has one in her room

CosySeason · 31/10/2025 10:33

December 1st. I’m expecting social media to explode with Christmas this weekend.

LavenderBlue19 · 31/10/2025 10:33

Mid-December, real tree. Stays up until early Jan. Fairy lights and door wreath go up early December.

Child helps a bit but has so far lost interest quite quickly.

SheWantsToBeMe · 31/10/2025 10:34

1st December. With take out and mulled wine. Christmas movies on, usually home alone and elf.

CoffeeAndCakeBringMeJoy · 31/10/2025 10:34

Early December. When I was a child we always aimed for the weekend closest to 15th December, and it had to stay up until Twelfth Night. We don’t ever go as early as November, with the one exception of the lockdown year as it gave us something nice to do at that time, but we always leave it up until just after New Year. It wouldn’t feel like New Year if the decorations were already down, but I also don’t want the stress of trying to pack it all away on Twelfth Night when we’re all back at work/school.

mumoftwo99x · 31/10/2025 10:34

We’ll probably do it the last weekend in November this year. I love having the tree up for the entire of December 🥰

Thats similar to me

I have 1 very large real, and about 6 fake ones now - I totally love it, but cant go up too early as I need to keep up til new years day

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 31/10/2025 10:36

Usually on my birthday in early December but we’re out this year so will probably do it the day before if I’m not working late. Last year DD16 decorated it herself & it was stunning.

Catpiece · 31/10/2025 10:36

Always 1 Dec

StewkeyBlue · 31/10/2025 10:37

Mid December.

But I am annoyed that this earlier and earlier trend means that the best real trees have gone by then, and having been harvested for the Mid November brigade are on their last legs before Christmas.

Ooogle · 31/10/2025 10:39

Around first weekend in dec so this year it’ll be 30th Nov. We have a real one in the lounge and a fake one in the kitchen. My youngest will decorate with me with lots of Xmas music on. I’m excited for it! They will be down around dec 30th- definitely by new year. I love them but don’t like to go into new year with Christmas decorations still up. So we enjoy them for a month

ImFineItsAllFine · 31/10/2025 10:42

We do the tree the first weekend in December (DC help decorate) then add more decorations to the rest of the house each weekend so it builds up through the month.

childofthe607080s · 31/10/2025 10:43

Mid December and leave it up till mid January

agree with PP you can’t leave it later and get a decent real tree
