Labour isn't working - Thread 15

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

That’s not correct. Plus this is a Labour’s not working thread. Others are available for this stuff.

The migrant sex offender who was mistakenly freed from jail has been deported back to Ethiopia, Shabana Mahmood announced on Wednesday.

So, embarrass Lammy and you are deported tout suite….

upseedaisee · 29/10/2025 07:46

Well, I knew it would happen but not this quickly. My first day as a newly minted pensioner, I haven't even had my breakfast and apparently on another thread in MN world I and my cohort are to blame for Labour's poor fiscal showing. Because my generation has worked hard, saved into a pension pot it's now considered obscene that we also get the state pension. I was half tempted to explain to them how paying for the pension works, but I don't think they'd get it. I really don't understand how people can be so venomous. Hey ho.

Congratulations on your retirement!

Do you have any nice plans for today? If not then may I recommend taking yourself out for a well deserved glass of something sparkly at pub/wine bar of choice to celebrate your decades of hard work and bright shiny future. Thanks

Thank you! My friendship group, the Ladies Wot Lunch are off out to Buxton later to celebrate. I'm sure bubbles will be in there somewhere.

Itcantbetrue · 29/10/2025 07:58

I heard something positive this morning that bosses in the gig economy who employ illegals risk not only a fine but 5 years in jail

I think that's a much better deterrent than a fine which the mp said would be worked into the risk.
A five year threat is a decent threat to make people think twice .

It's a small positive improvement.

Just catching up with those of you commenting about your children interested in politics. DD is Yr 10 and DS Yr 7. These threads have made me question my voting history, especially @Legolava being a fellow teacher. Thank you.

As a (almost) lifelong Labour voter how can I introduce DD to politics without my previous bias showing? Hope I’m not derailing this!

Edited

My children are into politics. Often, my husband and I have voted differently. Our children like debating politics in a tolerant way!

I am usually in a Labour echo chamber. Although this time around, they really are not popular. Ofsted, phonics, Y8 reading test, delayed SEND paper. The list goes on. All the while teachers are facing increasingly violent behaviour and being asked to support spurious DLA claims. Then facing abuse for not doing so.

In deprived areas where schools were getting lots of support from private schools, teachers have seen that cut as a direct result of the politics of spite. I just can’t forgive them for that. Outreach, bursaries, etc all cut. Parents being failed by the SEND system who just scraped enough to support their children, failed again.

Huge damage is being done to education. They will never recruit the teachers they need because they don’t see the bigger issue. Bribing us with 4% isn’t going to cut it. The public sector is spending money hand over fist whilst the private sector is being damaged and productivity is through the floor. All directly Labour’s fault. I need more than 4% if I’m going to be threatened daily by children, parents and the government.

I notice howls of protest from the Inverness re barracks as it could be bad for ‘community cohesion’ - who’d have thought eh?

Edited

Oh people are not at all happy. The usual "refugees welcome" lot have gone curiously muted.
Inverness is a very small city - 300 loiterers will be highly noticable. And the barracks is near a school.

Itcantbetrue · 29/10/2025 08:12

I don't believe in brainwashing and I don't mind how my DC vote . I hope I've installed into them what I had , question everything, look behind the curtain ,whose saying it and why. And the wonderful Tony benn quote re the power ,to whom are you accountable and how do we get rid of you .

I was raised in a house by one typical dyed in the red labour supporter and one swing voter who appreciated some of thatchers ideas ,both came from fairly poor families in the north .neither tried to force my brain into their way of thinking and I'm greaftul for that.

Ironically an uncle was very much of the red labour persuasion and my mum desperately trying to idolise him anyway just had a life time of dissspitnment eg he supported comps but sent his DC to boarding school and my siblings didn't do well in the comps ....he feted his rich daughter not so much the others and so on

With my DC when we see anything political I'm very good at making them think about both sides pros and cons .

The politics of envy is never a good look and always ends in disaster for the elctorate. Friends and I were discussing not long ago about how the private school outreach programmes and satellite officies had benefitted youngsters but now had been shut down. It's all such a mess

It’s a policy actively harming the people it’s supposed to protect. Mainly vulnerable children. It is now more elitist than ever. The actual rich don’t care. I wish people who did vote Labour really stopped to think about WHERE the money is coming from to fund the state system and in particular SEND.

Councils are going bankrupt trying to fund the system. Be it staff or extortionate taxis. Parents demand more, as they should. Where is it coming from though? Destroying the private sector through spite and envy is not the answer. Productivity is through the floor as those higher earners have well and truly hit the Laffer Curve. The tax system now disincentivises work. The “black hole” is just getting bigger. Politicians need to start being honest. We need very productive people and higher rate tax payers to want to work. If that means others share the burden and stuff like the 100k cliff edge are sorted, so be it. The electorate, I fear, are not wise enough to understand it.

Yes. Scotland were happy to call the English ‘racist’ when they complained. And now it’s in their back yard. Deal with it Hamish.

Itcantbetrue · 29/10/2025 08:53

@Legolava more teacher understanding and training on Sen would help a huge amount, the lack of training was never really realised before people assumed teachers would recognise if a DC had dyslexia .
That's not for teachers to diagnose or do anything special with just to undertsnd the DC in their class more.

And often small adjustments can really help but not many DC with dyslexia would benefit until they bring in different ways to learn to read

I live not far from there sadly. There's actually quite a large English population here - they're a weird split between biggest Indy fans ever, and white flight types.

Great to see the mods doing good work.

I reported it. It added nothing to thread and was a personal attack. Can't be doing with that sort of behaviour.
And the mods, bless 'em were straight on it.
