Daughter in hospital - full thickness burns

Nightmarehairinjury · 22/10/2025 23:00

Title says it all really. I took dd to have her hair coloured today - and she's ended up in burns ward, with full thickness chemical burn on her forehead and a 50/50 chance of needing a skin graft. WTF??? Can't believe it.

Am in bits.

(have namechanged)

Sorry for your loss, but I think you need to visit your daughter. She will need you.

Or send her father, if that is possible.

Omg! At least catch up with things over the last 3 weeks, if you're going to send unnecessary comments.

Petitchat · 13/11/2025 09:44

OP,
Wishing continued good recovery for DD 🌹
and when she receives her (very large, hopefully) compensation, not to spend any on pink hair!! 🙂

Soddingcat · 13/11/2025 09:54

no way would you get that white lift with 20 vol and bleach in 20 mins, i do 20 vol on roots for an hour and its still a bit yellow, were the mid lengths and ends yellow? You don't get even lift if doing the roots first .
Im pretty sure its heated up , swollen and dripped onto her forehead, like i said, ive seen it happen and its terrifying.

Soddingcat · 13/11/2025 09:56

this is who you should message, i promise you shell tell you exactly what has happened, it will help your claim

Your poor daughter! This must have been incredibly traumatic for you all. I'm glad the graft has taken so well.

LakieLady · 13/11/2025 10:28

This is just shocking, OP. The hairdresser has not only fucked up badly, but has shown scant concern since by the sound of it.

My hairdresser has been colouring my hair every 6-weeks for over 30 years.* She still does a skin test every single time I go. She says people's sensitivity to chemicals can vary over time, and that what was fine last time can cause a reaction this time.

Meltdownoclock · 13/11/2025 10:36

How awful of everyone to attack a mum who is clearly traumatized by a recent experience. Her mum having a panic attack next to her is hardly helpful is it?! I'm so sorry you have been through that experience with your mum and I'm sorry to hear what happened today. She will be ok x

I’m astonished the HSE isn’t interested. This seems to me to be RIDDOR reportable.

https://www.hse.gov.uk/riddor/types-of-reportable-incidents.htm

Accidents to members of the public or others who are not at work (such as customers or volunteers) must be reported if:

  • they involve work activity
  • they result in an injury
  • the person is taken directly from the scene of the accident to hospital for treatment to that injury

The HSE are not the enforcing authority for hairdressers, the Local Authority are.

But would be riddor reportable

tinyspiny · 13/11/2025 10:46

@Nightmarehairinjury I’ve been following your post and I have to say that it looks like the plastics people have done a fantastic job with that graft . I’m so pleased that your daughter seems to be doing so well .

Nightmarehairinjury · 13/11/2025 08:14

Nope not us, as far as I know

I‘m so sorry this happened to your DD (and apparently others, if it has been reported before)!

Not reacting on FB must be insanely difficult. But you absolutely need to continue to do as advised. I’m wishing you all the best with your legal proceedings and your DD a swift recovery!!

Schoolstressed · 13/11/2025 10:53

I’m only seeing this thread now. What a horrendous thing to happen your dd. I’m glad she is soldiering through and I hope the graft continues to heal well.

Myself and my 15 yr old son had a cup of scalding tea dropped on us from a height by a Ryanair flight attendant in June 24. I didn’t realise how burnt I was because my initial reaction was to tend to my son. The attendant scarpered and we had no help until my husband went down to the attendants at the end of the plane. The whole event was very distressing, not helped by Ryanair’s incompetence with not enough first aid for the two of us. To cut a long story short my case is settled and my son’s case is due before a judge this month. We’ve agreed an amount for him but it still has to go before a judge as he’s a minor. The case was being brought through me for him. There was a lot of back and forth to the solicitor with paperwork especially as there were two of us. We are in Ireland so I’m not sure if it’s the same in the UK for minors. His settlement will be kept in trust until he’s 18. I doubt Ryanair wanted the two of us in the papers as these cases tend to be reported on in Ireland. We never got an acknowledgment of it from Ryanair much less an apology. Our burns healed up very well. I have some small scars but they aren’t noticeable.

The best of luck to you both. It’s such a shock when something like this happens. I was in absolutely awful form for a very long time afterwards so mind yourselves.

Schoolstressed · 13/11/2025 10:56

Also to echo what others have said I would leave it all to the solicitors and don’t be surprised if there are long periods of not hearing from them. They will be working away on it in the background.

ICanSpellConfusionWithaK · 13/11/2025 10:58

Please do keep posting OP. I am so sorry for your daughter and the audacity of the hairdressers advertising after this fuck up is astounding.

MusicMakesItAllBetter · 13/11/2025 11:14

Wishitsnows · 22/10/2025 23:12

Yes you should have stayed. Why did you leave, wth!

Maybe read OP comments before you comment with this in future....

"I spent 7 weeks in hospital with my dying mum a few months ago. Please don't make me feel more guilty than I do already."

OP knows that she should be with her DD.

Zov · 13/11/2025 11:58

Blimey that's horrific. I'm so sorry for your daughter @Nightmarehairinjury This would have put me off bleaching my hair for life. As she's so young, I think the 'patch' will heal and go pretty much back to normal, but yeah, no words hardly! AWFUL thing to happen. I hope you get the fecking hairdresser closed down!!!

Irenesortof · 13/11/2025 12:04

Thanks for the updates OP, I think about you and DD from time to time and wonder how she's doing. That graft looks brilliant, and she sounds a real trooper.
The salon, on the other hand... words fail. They seem to be in total denial about what happened.

EyeLevelStick · 13/11/2025 12:11

SAH07 · 13/11/2025 10:46

The HSE are not the enforcing authority for hairdressers, the Local Authority are.

But would be riddor reportable

The HSE is the enforcing body for COSHH in all and any business, and can prosecute for failing to report appropriately under RIDDOR.

However, the council may require registration of hairdressers. If that’s the case for the OP, she can make a report to the council.

whynotwhatknot · 13/11/2025 12:23

trading standards maybe? thats shocking that theyre still not saying anything and posting liek normal

i know they cant admit liablility but people shoudl know

This @Nightmarehairinjury you and your dd have immense strength and courage to have got where you are. Appalled at the posters here guilt tripping you!!

It's not, enforcement responsibility is split for h&s between the HSE and LA. Both authorities can enforce a range of h&s legislation.

Im a local authority inspector and have investigated many accidents including burns from the beauty industry.

I would certainly investigate this.

Sunshineismyfavourite · 13/11/2025 13:42

No advice but just wanted to say how brave you and your DD are. What a nightmare and I too would be beyond furious with the salon. Agree to leave it to law experts though and not post anything which could impact any case. Do keep us posted OP. Sending you both massive hugs x

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 13/11/2025 13:44

Get some silicon gel for on the scar to ease the redness

JustMyView13 · 13/11/2025 14:51

BrendaSmall · 13/11/2025 09:07

That is no reason not to be there for your daughter!
you need to support your daughter it’s what called being a mum !!

Calm down Brenda. The young lady had her DF with her.
There are plenty of men who step up and father their children in their time of need alongside the DM rather than dumping it all on the DM. If you cared to read the whole thread you’d realise they had done a shift swap to give OP a break. Yes, you’re reading that right. Two parents, parenting together to help support their DC.
But sure, jump in with a dose of mum guilt for OP. Why not.

Nightmarehairinjury · 25/10/2025 20:01

In for a penny... Pic she sent from hairdressers and when she was admitted. Don't open if squeamish. Look as if on opposite sides - one's a selfie

Good grief OP, sending lots of good wishes for a speedy and full recovery 🙌

Moneyplantss · 13/11/2025 15:37

I was at the hair dresser when I read this and he said they don’t do treatments for any under 18 kids for these reasons; to avoid being sued. They only do haircuts and blow dry for kids.
