Daughter in hospital - full thickness burns

Nightmarehairinjury · 22/10/2025 23:00

Title says it all really. I took dd to have her hair coloured today - and she's ended up in burns ward, with full thickness chemical burn on her forehead and a 50/50 chance of needing a skin graft. WTF??? Can't believe it.

Am in bits.

Wow!

It's looking good but what your poor daughter has been through.

DoubleShotEspressox · 07/11/2025 14:53

They’ve done a wonderful job on the graft Op - I hope it’s not too itchy for your poor DD. It’s not much comfort now but in the near future the scar will fade drastically after healing and it won’t be a constant brutal reminder of what’s happened.

With the behaviour of the “stylist” after what happened, I hope you take her to the fucking cleaners and their reputation is destroyed. It must be so hard to sit there quietly after injuring your DD in such a way.

Is it likely they are insured and therefore don’t give a shit?? Would their insurance even pay out if this is their fault?

SushiSheep · 07/11/2025 15:32

Thanks for updating @Nightmarehairinjury
I hope you are finding some support in all of our comments.
What a horrific thing for your poor DD to go through but that graft looks good, the surgeon/s have done a great job.
How is she feeling in herself now?
Hopefully she has a positive outlook and is assured that the wound will heal and the scars will fade in time.
In the meantime, crank up the pressure on that salon owner and let your lawyer take them for everything your DD deserves.

SassyCow · 07/11/2025 15:52

They've done a great job on the graft OP. Thank you for updating us.

Nightmarehairinjury · 07/11/2025 15:56

I've no idea if they are insured or not (though given that they are a well known salon locally I'd be very surprised if they weren't). Just had call from solicitors assigned by insurance company - to get details and then to agree whether or not they can take claim. I find it so difficult to talk about.

I'd be wary about using the solicitor assigned by your insurance. They're usually panel solicitors being paid a nominal rate and therefore assign their most junior members of staff to deal with these cases. They'll say you have to use their panel solicitors up until the issue of proceedings, but there's case law to say that actually you can use a solicitor of your choosing. I'd contact a local firm of solicitors with a good reputation and ask their advice. So sorry this has happened to your daughter and you x

kellygoeswest · 07/11/2025 17:13

I commented earlier in the thread but just to add, I used to work in claims, specialising in hairdressing and beauty claims. You 100% have a case here.

I obviously can’t say for absolute certain but given the amount of evidence you have, it shouldn’t drag on and once you’ve presented the evidence/statements requested by the insurers it will be extremely unlikely that they’d go as far as court or anything like that. Insurers will want to settle this because the salon really has no valid defence.

Many of the claims I saw settlements on were for much less severe injuries than this (i.e. a small burn from an eyebrow wax!).

Unfortunately there still has to be a back and forth between insurers and solicitors etc which can be tedious.

Sorry, I don’t know if this comment is helpful at all, but hopefully it puts your mind at ease a little on this side of things.

Nightmarehairinjury · 07/11/2025 18:32

I'm happy with assigned solicitors

Have you heard anything from HSE? The hairdressers should be changing process and ensuring this doesn’t happen again. Not just getting their insurance to pay out!

I hope you are able to post a public review soon as well!

Stand firm OP. Your girl being injured is appalling, but they must also improve their practice so another DD is hurt.

WinterNightStars · 07/11/2025 20:44

Wow graft looks amazing.(I’m a nurse, used to work in trauma plastics). Once fully healed it’ll be much less noticeable too, especially with a bit of make up. She’s got youth on her side too which helps the healing process .

Hernamesnoelle · 07/11/2025 20:55

Just read this whole thread, I can't believe it!! Your daughter sounds like a trooper. Sending loads of positive wishes to you both.

Nightmarehairinjury · 12/11/2025 19:56

So, just an update. Graft seems to be healing well. Obviously a different colour from the rest of her forehead, but pretty smooth where some of the scab has come off. She's just wearing a wide headband out and about.

Great news, it’will only continue to improve.

Daisrose · 12/11/2025 20:32

Just wanted to say how in awe I am of you all. Fingers crossed you kick their asses. We are all thinking of you

All the info is with solicitors, waiting for them to fully assess case. HSE got back to say that it has nothing to do with them.

Been told by outpatient clinic that she can't do anything colourwise with hair until after she's had follow up appt with plastic surgeon, which should be in a couple of months time. Her roots will be impressive by then! SHE STILL WANTS TO GO PINK!!!! 🙄🤕🤯🤦🙅

She’s young and still fearless, bless her.
Just keep strong

Loreimvo · 12/11/2025 20:58

I know I’ve said it previously, they’ve done such an amazing job on that graft, make sure she keeps up any aftercare tips they give

grumpygrape · 12/11/2025 21:28

We were recommended Bio oil for my husband's skin grafts.

nocoolnamesleft · 13/11/2025 00:51

Oh, isn't that graft settling in beautifully. Really good job. Hope your lawyer is a rottweiler.

Neverplayleapfrogwithmrpipes · 13/11/2025 01:34

Your poor daughter!

Nightmarehairinjury · 29/10/2025 19:35

They said they used blondorplex - 20 vol 6%, but how would they have gotten that amount of lift in the 20 mins they say it was on for at that strength???

They didn't check on her at all, never mind every 5 - 10 mins that manufacturer says to.

Agree re. the amount of lift in just 20 mins. I think they must have used 40% by mistake. That's the highest common concentration that they'll have, and it's extremely strong. It's not supposed to touch the scalp.

Absolutely horrendous burn. Poor thing!

nomas · 13/11/2025 03:21

The healing is coming on so well, touch wood. I'm in awe of her resilience and yours.

Did the salon ever contact you again? Or do they think it's all gone away?

SAH07 · 13/11/2025 04:04

So sorry this has happened to you all.

Just popping in to say that Environmental Health at your local authority will investigate this if you make a complaint to them if you havent already done so.

CareerChange24 · 13/11/2025 05:35

Don’t use bio oil, plenty of doctors even believe it to be good - it’s not. Contact a reputable aesthetic clinic and explain your situation and ask to buy Exosomes. I’ve seen them work miracles on dog bites on faces and alongside silicone gel you will see the best results.
