Labour isn't working - Thread 14

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

No no Keir - a long period of quiet reflection is what you need! Gawd, race to the edge time…

Nolletimiere · 24/10/2025 20:59

A report by His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service said 262 prisoners were released in error from April 2024 to March 2025.

HMPPS said in the report that releases in error “remain infrequent” and believes the rise is linked to changes in the law, and the early release scheme which Labour introduced in September 2024.

But as a resident of Essex, can I just say

there are not enough expletives for how I feel right now

i'm gonna try and catch up with the thread now - I do realise a lot of people outside of Essex probably feel the same.

Oh no, I arrive on the thread and everyone leaves

So if anyone still here, conflicting reports from I can see. One report says he was meant to go to a deportation Centre.

This is one of the questions I have generally - if he was due to be deported after serving his sentence, or 2/3 of his sentence, then why do we not just deport these people straight away? And he said in court that he wanted to go back to his country of origin. So instead of housing him here, at the taxpayers expense, why can he not just go straight there?

Another thing I feel massively ragey about is the incredibly incompetence going on in this country. I don't blame this particular government for that. I think it takes a long time to end up with a culture of incompetence.

But is anyone going to do anything about it? Does it mostly stem from the civil service?

Something else I fear, apologies for being neurotic. I noticed this in some of the comments by the judge. He's being talked about as being very dangerous. We all know the courts generally don't care about women and girls being victims. This makes me wonder if perhaps they are aware of other things about him that they are not disclosing.

@EmeraldRouletteyou’re totally right. It’s hard to rein in the expletives.

EmeraldRoulette · 24/10/2025 23:26

@EasternStandard

Thank you
I had to go into London today for work It's probably just as well because if I had seen any news during the day today, I think I would have been even more ragey.

I'm not clear what time this particular story broke if I've been working at home I'd probably have seen it as I take a late lunch.

But the other thing I didn't know yesterday was about the Southport killer.... so I'm not sure when this news came out

It seems his headteacher warned Prevent three times, about him, was told that it was unacceptable to use the word "sinister" about him because he was officially a child, he had to be searched regularly for a knife because he was excluded from his previous school for having one... and mental health workers raised concerns about how she described him? I mean the mind just absolutely boggles.

I'm also hearing that she was accused of racial stereotyping because of the knife business - I'm not sure if that one can be true. If he was known to be carrying a knife, (and apparently his parents were aware as well), then his race is irrelevant. He was known to have brought a knife into school.

I heard it as a news flash on 5 news at 5 so it was some time after he was released (based on reports that he was on a train to London before 1pm). I am also very angry. Both my DC go to school in Chelmsford. My oldest is in year 11 and regularly goes to the town centre after school. The fact that the prison are letting inmates out accidentally makes me extremely concerned about safety.

It pisses me off that KS keeps tweeting bite sized responses.

You are the Prime Minister. Put out a proper press statement, don't put out trite soundbites like you did in Opposition. Bloody do something useful.

This.

The other one I saw on X was the official no10 account tweeting that parents shouldn't be out of pocket by giving their own kids breakfast. I mean ffs.

As for releasing prisoners by mistake and @emeraldroulette the failures over the southport killer...words fail me. They really do.

twistyizzy · 25/10/2025 07:20

Well our last date in Greece was supposed to be a 3 island boat trip today but as per DC are prone to do, she was up all night being sick so we missed it.
After 1 week of travelling nearly 800km around mainland Greece I was really looking forward to our final day relaxing on board a boat 🙄
Ah well shit happens and the upside is we are next to a beautiful bakery + cafe so I'm sat drinking amazing coffee, eating an almond croissant on my own as once I'm woken up I can't ever get back to sleep!
Lazy day in Athens with coffee, cake + gelato for me + dry toast for DD 🤣🤣

Just catching up with this thread and boy it goes quickly 🤯

That made me stabby ie "parents shouldn't be out of pocket" 😡😡😡 So bsducally the state ie taxpayer should fund EVERYTHING? Parents shouldn't have to pay for anything for their DC? So no personal responsibility to look after, or pay for, your own DC. It's despicable.

I think this rhetoric will ramp up now because they want everyone to be dependent on state ASAP in case they don't win a 2nd term (which they wont).
It's no coincidence that propopganda about ID cards us ramping up too. He doesn't care that the majority don't want it, it's all about state oversight and control.

We've said all along that they are dangerous, all of this just proves it!

Have been on the trip with mainly international people, they all said from the outside the UK under Labour looks like a shit show ie Reeves and Starmer in particular. These were citizens of: Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Italy etc.
So people from outside the country can see it, some of those from inside still can't.
They were overwhelmingly again at Starmer, he is ridiculed abroad. I said don't worry, he is ridiculed in the UK and told them the BJ "bollard" description 😆

Upstartled · 25/10/2025 08:01

The thing is, who even asked for breakfast clubs? My youngest child is in secondary now but this summer his primary school headteacher was beside herself trying to improve the uptake. Not an assembly would go by when the kids wouldn't get the full sales pitch. But they just couldn't get any momentum on it.

The thing is, most people like their kids, breakfast isn't a hardship, the cost isn't begrudged - it's a space to start the day together and, okay it's busy, but it's an important and grounding routine of family life. Nobody asked for this broad spectrum solution to save a small number of kids who have impoverished or crappy home lives - and those kids deserve a shit tonne more than jammy toast.

It's like they have forgotten that people take pride in caring for their children.

Breakfast clubs is a scam. Labour took existing foc magic breakfasts by Greggs/Kelloggs offered by many schools and simply re-branded them.

They also forced the closure of many existing clubs charging £1-2 offering a variety of nutritious food in favour of taxpayer funded "free ones" offering a slice of soggy toast + diluted juice.

The type of parents who fail to provide their own DC with a slice of toast each morning aren't the ones who are getting their DC to school 30 mins early for a "free breakfast", it's the parents who were already paying for existing clubs who are using them.

Rivalled · 25/10/2025 08:12

Oh yes, it’s an anti poverty policy that doesn’t work, and they knew it, it is in fact yet another subsidy to the section of public sector workers that vote for them.

TheNuthatch · 25/10/2025 08:13

@EmeraldRoulette Sorry there was nobody around to chat last night. The thread tends to be quieter at night. ❤️

@twistyizzy Sorry to hear about the cancelled boat trip. Hope your dd feels better for the journey home. A lazy day in Athens sounds perfect.
I was laughing at you spreading the word internationally about the human bollard 😂.

Yep, this 💯
Its a total scam, which has ended up removing decent breakfast club provisions for working parents who need early childcare.

He will probably now claim (and receive) asylum, because the prison system ‘let him down’.

With the environment that this wretched government have created, if you can imagine it, it can happen.

Yes, extremely angry. And whilst this is making headlines because of the prior publicity about this person, I would be angry whoever it was. The prison is a short walk from the town centre. There are massive safety concerns if they are releasing people that they shouldn’t be.
