Is anyone else dreading the clocks going back?

It's finally here. Dark evenings, and within a week or two, dark mornings too. I'll be leaving for work and heading home in the dark. Thankfully my job has some big windows and I have access to outside space if needs be, but it'll still be a pretty miserable six months. I'm trying to get ahead of it by getting my supplements sorted out and bought, but even then I don't know how well it'll work. Just the worst time of year all around

Yes. Mercifully I WFH a lot

FlyingCarpetRide · 20/10/2025 21:40

Now i am 😫

ThisAmberNewt · 20/10/2025 21:41

When is it

DappledThings · 20/10/2025 21:43

No. I would stay on GMT year round and ditch the whole clocks changing nonsense altogether if it was up to me. Still being light at 10pm in June is entirely unnecessary.

egganbacofoil · 20/10/2025 21:43

It happens at the same time every year.As someone who works 12 hour shifts it is lovely to drive in daylight both ends of my shift but I am certainly not dreading it !

JudgeBread · 20/10/2025 21:43

I already get up in the dark and come home in the dark so I'm not really arsed about that. At this point I so rarely see the sun I'm fairly certain a string of garlic and a wooden stake would repel me.

I'm mostly dreading the dog not understanding and getting in a mood over her walks and meals changing 🙃

IvedoneitagainhaventI · 20/10/2025 21:44

Oh absolutely dreading it.
I can't believe how quickly the days have shortened.

It would be dark until gone 10 in the morning by December!

I agree. It puts me out more when the clocks go forward than when we revert to GMT. GMT all the way

Sunday

It depresses me. I don't mind a dark morning but enjoy a bit of light early evening.

Purplecatshopaholic · 20/10/2025 21:49

Yup. Hate it every year.

CharlotteCChapel · 20/10/2025 21:50

I'm glad I'm not babysitting DGS, he gets up at stupid o'clock anyway.

The hour difference really affects me, unlike the transatlantic time difference which my body ignores.

I struggle really badly each year and I just hate it. I wish we could have just twelve hours of sunlight a day

I don't like it either but I try to look at it positively because actually, yes between October and December each day is shorter and shorter, but that has been creeping upon us since the end of June. So the way I look at it is that by Christmas the final stretch is over and from January onwards days get longer and longer, bit by bit. So I try to focus on the fact it's just these 2 months really and not 6 months of doom.

What do you mean? We are on GMT in December so nothing would change there. We just wouldn't have really long days in the summer. It's BST I wouldn't bother with.

We’d have the same amount of sunshine… just the sun would come up at 3am and nobody would enjoy it

ClassicalQueen · 20/10/2025 22:05

Yes 100%. I’m a teacher so leave for work in the dark and return home in the dark. It really gets me down as I don’t have much time spent in the daylight during the winter weeks!

TheeNotoriousPIG · 20/10/2025 22:07

No, but I'm used to going to work in the dark in the morning, and coming home when it's dark at night. It is much better now that I have an outdoor job, though, as I do actually get to see daylight and feel the wind on my skin! (Although maybe I'd sometimes prefer an indoor job when it is snowy and icy).

Dairy cows hate the clocks changing, though. They like their routines far too much, so the morning milking time is put half an hour forward/backwards to try to ease them into the 'new' time! This does not stop them from either standing at the gate and mooing to tell you that you're late, or looking dazed when you expect them to get up a whole half-hour earlier than usual, though...

I'd be fine with it! If it's light at 4am it may as well be light at 3am for all the use it is to anyone.

And we wouldn't have this pointless faff twice a year

Ifonlyiweretaller · 20/10/2025 22:08

get yourself a sad lamp (Amazon or similar). I use mine while putting my make up on / drying my hair t etc and it really makes a difference to my mood. I also tell myself that by 21 December (which is only 2 months away) the days start getting progressively longer again!

suburberphobe · 20/10/2025 22:09

Oh ugh.

Winter is on its way.... I hate it.

I need to get my lamp out, I use it in the morning when I wake up. Not sure it makes a ton of difference though!

EatMoreChocolate44 · 20/10/2025 22:12

I don't mind it for Halloween/Christmas. I love the cosy vibes and not feeling that I should be making the most of the evening. No guilt about lying on the sofa and stuffing my face. 😂I really struggle in January though. That's when it gets depressing.
