If Starmer and Reeves fuck this budget, Labour will be out of power for ANOTHER generation.

I was hopeful when Labour came into power - I hoped a calm sensible bunch of economic policies that would help to level things out a bit was on the cards and given that they had so long to prepare, I assumed they would spring into action and at least have some plans.

But now I’m just reading more articles about the huge swing towards Reform and I can’t believe it’s coming to this.

I actually live in Australia but I run a business in the U.K. and we have just had a second term of a very boring and sensible labour government over here who aren’t fixing things yet but they aren’t actively making things worse and I just think, it is possible to have a Labour government who don’t actively hate the richer people, but also are trying to work towards a more equal society.

What do you think is causing the main swing towards the right? Is it all the immigration stuff? Surely that can’t be everything?

Why are you surprised? Did you think labour had aound economic policies during the election campaign? If people didn’t feel like they needed a change, I don’t think labour would have won on their policies because frankly they didn’t have any robust ones and they also don’t have anyone with the skills needed to turn the economy around

Except that PP failed to answer my Q on "and how are Labour doing with the black hole?". Reeves said it was 20B in July 24 yet estimations are now that it's 40-50B.
So how exactly are they improving it?

Well it’s got worse by £30bn since they got in and now it looks like they are saying anyone earning over £45k isn’t a classed as a ‘working person’, so I’m going to get hammered, along with a lot of other people. On the bright side, it will mean we will only have to endure them for another 4 years maximum, and then they will be out of power for another couple of decades before the next lot of gullibles vote them back in.

Trouble is, neither did the Tories. They were the ones who caused all of this with austerity and brexit (and Covid but that was obviously not their fault).

So who do you vote for? I’m not wedded to voting Labour, but at the last election the Lib Dems looked like a joke, the greens had no chance of getting elected (and no economic policies but that was secondary to why I didn’t vote for them) and I disagree with reform’s economic policies, which were uncosted anyway, so not voting for them.
