If Starmer and Reeves fuck this budget, Labour will be out of power for ANOTHER generation.

I was hopeful when Labour came into power - I hoped a calm sensible bunch of economic policies that would help to level things out a bit was on the cards and given that they had so long to prepare, I assumed they would spring into action and at least have some plans.

But now I’m just reading more articles about the huge swing towards Reform and I can’t believe it’s coming to this.

I actually live in Australia but I run a business in the U.K. and we have just had a second term of a very boring and sensible labour government over here who aren’t fixing things yet but they aren’t actively making things worse and I just think, it is possible to have a Labour government who don’t actively hate the richer people, but also are trying to work towards a more equal society.

What do you think is causing the main swing towards the right? Is it all the immigration stuff? Surely that can’t be everything?

Of course it spiked due to Covid but then it clearly falls, until 2024/2025 when it is spiking and forecast to keep rising. Now I wonder what could have caused that?

You claimed above "The 1 million claiming benefits stats are completely wrong" and inferred it was right wing propoganda. You were correct though on the figures because it is 6 x that amount just for out of work benefits

Edited

The 1 million stat I mentioned was in answer to someone claiming it was 1 million migrants claiming benefits. There are not 6 million immigrants claiming our of work benefits.
The goal posts are always moving...
It's the immigrants that aren't working
It's immigrants in general
It's British people claiming benefits
It's single mothers
Asylum seekers are eating 3 meals a day in hotels while British homeless live on the streets
Why should my taxes pay for some homeless scrounger to have a roof over their head

Etc etc.

Are there injustices? Yes. There is likely lots of room for improvement. But we aren't out of step with other countries on this. And even if we ironed out all the fraud, all the inefficiencies in the system it wouldn't make a huge overall difference. It's morally worth doing. But it won't deliver some massive bonus that could lower taxes. And the welfare bill will keep rising. Because aging population.

MSM has done a good job on you it seems. The China spy case started 10 years ago.

Have you listened this morning? It’s relevant now.

And how are Labour doing with that?
Reeves said it was £20 B, what is it now?

I hate the gas lighting -apparently up to 1000 random foreign men arriving in boats every day is not a serious matter.
Great British Energy and cutting carbon. This will bring lots of green jobs - ODFOD I have pv panels in my garden and no one has been near them since they were installed 10 years ago. There are hundreds and hundreds of wind turbines round here and apart from the initial scouring off of the peat to make roads and pouring of tons of concrete there are NO jobs.
Everyone who complains about immigration is a racist extremist

She's magically made it worse, we actually can't take more years of her making things worse 🙄

I have & it’s patently obvious that it was a known fact for years. Cummings knew. Starmer is releasing the files. The Tories wouldn’t do that. We’re still waiting for the Russia report.

I hate to break it to you, but usually when fixing things it gets worse before it gets better. As I said she’s not a magician.

I hate to break it to you but there's zero sign of anything improving. They haven't got the ability. It's conplete incompetence and in the real world she would have been sacked for gross negligence.

It’s relevant and next up are questions on why it was dropped and to Lord Hermer. A good interview with a KC this morning explains it well R4 or Times radio. If people think as you do they should listen to it.

Do they? Why would growth decline first? Even Labour thought it would be higher.

I’m starting to think she said all this black hole shit so she could make one herself and hike the taxes up and blame it on the tories. Wouldn’t put it past this shower of a government to do that!

She said there would be 2% growth in 2025?

luckylavender · 16/10/2025 11:06

Flyingintotheunknown · 16/10/2025 02:52

Exactly! Labour apologists who believe the utter manipulative bullshit labour are telling the country! “Yes let’s blame the tories for everything we have fucked up on, it’s alright we can fleece the whole nation of tax payers out of millions an get away with it by blaming everyone else but ourselves and the stupid naive and gullible voters will believe us and feel sorry for us”.

That makes no sense at all. Tax hasn’t risen since the election (on individuals) and if it does then that would be public money.

Upstartled · 16/10/2025 11:07

So, we've had no growth in 2025 to date, the number of payrolled employees has fallen, GDP per capita is the lowest in the G7, food inflation is running at over 5%, the number of homes being built is as low as at the height of COVID, NHS waiting lists have started to grow again...and Reeves will be back in 40 days time to fill a 'black hole' of her own making with more tax hikes and proposed welfare cuts.

You'd have to be sniffing glue to think this adds up to a springboard for better things ahead.

No we should be seeing an improvement by now. I’m sure Starmer and his cronies have manipulated all their voters into thinking it will “get worse before it gets better” but unfortunately Starmer is more concerned in finding his fame and fortune on the world stage and helping out other countries!!

She’s also not a fortune teller. So it’s harder than expected. That’s not surprising. That’s 14 years of Tories. Tory austerity & Tory Brexit. And Liz Truss the cherry on the top.

You don’t like him, fine. I felt repelled quite a lot of the time between 2010 & the last election. As I did between 79 & 90. It’s life, suck it up.
