A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

This is such a nonsense lie they deserve to be eviscerated. They’ve fucked up and made a hole bigger. If there really are tax rises coming then Sunak was right and everyone should go nuts at Labour’s incompetence.

How Sunak has maintained a dignified silence and not jumped up and down saying, 'I told you so!' is beyond me!

Oh i imagine he has privately 1000s of times

NoWordForFluffy · 15/10/2025 13:58

I imagine he has developed a 'FFS!' tic when any economic news is broadcast!

OK so it's carte blanche then?

Just checking because I currently don't lurk on there but it's seemingly ok so I expect a modicum of respect if I do comment on that thread now. You've been lurking on here and reporting back for ages. I am happy to return the favour.

Ditto, I've never evne looked for their threads, it's not an interest of mine, however, if we're now fair game.....

Rachel Reeves is raising the UK’s taxes at the fastest pace in the G7, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The tax burden in Britain is on track to rise sharply over this Parliament, even as similar countries hold steady or cut back the share of money taken from households and businesses.

British Government revenues - largely from taxes - are set to account for 40.6pc of GDP by 2029, the IMF predicted, up from 38.3pc in 2024 when Labour took power.

This increase of 2.3 percentage points is far in excess of anything seen in similar large democratic economies. It equates to around £65bn of additional tax when measured in today’s prices.

I sometimes have a browse if it appears in 'Active', but I don't see it often. 😬🤣

It's boring, tbh. I wouldn't bother.

upseedaisee · 15/10/2025 14:09

Maybe I need to change my bet to IMF bailout by Christmas!

Great 🙄 Let's just tax the fucking life out of people and watch them dial back on their working hours and ambition again until we can bury any productivity in the country completely.

Everyone I know is cutting back on spending as much as possible in anticipation for the budget. That just means less money in the economy etc.

Rising prices on everything is just shit and that's before the budget which will fuck it up even more

That’s right - they don’t have a clue about behavioural responses, and the limitations of fiscal policy.

They are evidently unable to tackle the welfare budget, so have nowhere else to go. The sooner they self-destruct the better.

Rather that than death by a thousand cuts.

I have no idea about retailing, but my limited understanding is that shops' buyers place their Christmas orders over the summer in order to ensure enough stock to meet demand over the festive season.

If that's the case, Reeves has dealt them a massive blow by delaying the Budget to barely a month before Christmas. This is the time of year when people are usually buying presents and other goodies, the retailers must be anticipating a pretty bleak Christmas and a lot of unsold stock - because there are no good vibes about the end of November.

justasking111 · 15/10/2025 14:28

Things are spinning in Wales over the budget. Two days ago drakeford said the Senedd had until April to agree. This morning it was threats of tens of thousands of public service job losses, out of control council rises .

Can you tell we've an election in May.

The threats have started seven months before. Up till now we've had the carrot. Looks like we're in for the stick now. 🙈🙈

Reeves delayed the budget to give her self some breathing space with the bond markets, and presumably so that Labour could ‘manage’ the messaging in the interim.

Instead, she has simply destroyed the prospects of a ‘normal’ Xmas for a significant number of families and SME’s.

These people are beyond contempt.

There's very little Christmas stuff being pushed by the big retailers. No-one has the appetite for it. I've bought wrapping paper, cards, books for the grandchildren. Can't get my offspring excited about any ideas I have. It might be money cash for the first time ever.

He's trying to strongarm opposition parties into approving his budget with the threat of job losses and department cuts if they don't play the game. I don't think it will come to anything - he's just playing billy big balls before they lose all power in May.

I'm not sure retail sales are doing very well. Considering it's a sector that will have been hit hard by the increase in minimum wage - it must be nervous times.

And it's all being levied on the same, small group of people.

Bad People. Who think Bad Thoughts. They do subsidise everyone else in the the UK... but never mind that, they are still Bad.
