CameForAVacationStayedForTheRevolution · 06/10/2025 10:54

Oh no. What an amazing life she had though. Great books.

Chocolateteabag · 06/10/2025 10:55

I’ve just heard on the radio - so sad

Hoping it was a quick passing

Catcatcat111 · 06/10/2025 10:56

I was sad to see this, used to love reading her books!

FamilyPhoto · 06/10/2025 10:56

Genuinely upset by this, and after a fall too. RIP Jilly, your books got me through my teenage years 🌹

EleanorReally · 06/10/2025 10:58

i loved her books when a teenager
and loved the Rivals series on Disney plus, they did her proud

Sourisblanche · 06/10/2025 11:01

Oh no how sad. I know she had a long life but her books were having a moment with the new Riders series, which I also loved!

I will raise a glass of bubbly to Jilly at the weekend. Thanks for the laughs and some fabulous characters.

ChickpeaCauliflowerSalad · 06/10/2025 11:01

Very sad, especially as it seems she was in good health & good spirits until the fall.

her poor family, such a shock for them xx

EerieDecorations · 06/10/2025 11:02

I only started reading her books last year after Rivals was on TV, but she's always been someone who seemed to live life to the full, and she had obviously been so involved in the TV productions, what sad news.

Jojoanna · 06/10/2025 11:02

So sad to hear this

Lobsterteapot · 06/10/2025 11:04

Love Jilly Cooper, her books are like eating chocolate in a hot bath on a cold night. So comforting and have got me through some terrible times.

echt · 06/10/2025 11:05

I’ve never read any of her novels but read her “How to Stay Married “ and “How to Survive Nine to Five”. Very funny and sharp.

Jezzballs2000 · 06/10/2025 11:06

I'm so sad to hear this, she really is my favourite writer. I'm glad she got to see a new generation of people enjoying her books. I really hoped she'd writer another!

themoderncooks · 06/10/2025 11:08

I feel like crying, and I never cry over celebrities. She really has bookmarked so many life events for me and I saw her at the Royal Festival Hall last year, she was still so sparky and full of life. So sad.

Tootingbec · 06/10/2025 11:09

Ohhhh no 😢

My teenage years were all the better for my love of a good Jilly Cooper book

Still refer to any fancy house I see as “The Maltings/Matings” 😂

Bombshelter · 06/10/2025 11:09

Reading illicit copies swapped round the locker rooms at school was one of the highlights of my teenaged years.

RIP Jilly.

Catsinaflat · 06/10/2025 11:10

I am sitting here in tears - her books have been my go to comfort read for years and years. Always hoped her books would go on forever ❤️

Bontonbonbon · 06/10/2025 11:12

RIP to a wonderful writer. Her books have such wit and joy. She had such an eye for character! Her books stand as a testament to her sharp eye for the intricacies of human behaviour.

Exactly this - I re read them over and over again, ever since pinching them off my Mum’s bookshelf when I was about 12. Fabulous woman

Me too. I’ve read and reread them when going through rough patches. Thanks Jilly for bringing joy to so many! I will be reading my faves again!!

JacknDiane · 06/10/2025 11:17

I've never read Jilly cooper but thanks to this thread I will do now.

RegimentalSturgeon · 06/10/2025 11:17

Oh, that is sad news.

Jilly makes a cameo appearance in this rather splendid fanfic short story, which anyone who likes Saki or the TV Sherlock is likely to enjoy. I like to think that Jilly would have read it and approved.

Can we do a ‘top 4’ in celebratIon of her fabulousness?

  1. the man who made husbands jealous. Just my absolute favourite
  2. 3 and 4 in no particular order: riders, rivals and polo

RIP Jilly. I shall raise a glass of champagne to you next time I have a drink
