He was involved in gangs, unfortunately. Don't think I'd want my daughter associating with him.

If you didn’t want your daughter dating this boy, you speak to her about it. You don’t report him to a foreign government and get him thrown in jail for consensual sex. This doesn’t change anything tbh.

OneBadKitty · 08/10/2025 07:16

It's looking like the mother of the girl knew a hell of a lot more about Marcus and his lifestyle and the company he kept than any of you do

It is reasonable to not want your daughter to date this boy, it is not reasonable to get him thrown in jail for consensual sex.

I just don’t understand why anyone thinks it’s reasonable?

"His lifestyle and the company he kept" aren't reasons to get him put in prison in a medieval country. I'm shocked how many posters seem to think that your daughter dating someone you don't like or think is dodgy makes it ok to do what that woman did. Nothing justifies it. You talk to your child and try to manage the situation, you don't get him locked up in a hellhole prison.

Everythinghascrumbled · 04/10/2025 09:59

Why does it make you angry about the mother who reported him for something unrelated? She wasn’t driving the car ? This likely would have happened anyway ?

Because he'd have had an extra part of life.

Clavinova · 06/10/2025 19:30

She was 3 months younger than him

The girl was at least 9 months younger - Marcus' legal team fudged/lied about the age gap, albeit by only 6 months or so. Marcus was 19 last January, the girl possibly 19 this month (his legal team indicated that her birthday was in October, although of course they may have fudged that as well).

Why don't you talk about the fact that the girl was found with birth control pills on her. That was a clear decision that she made - presumably because she wanted to be in the relationship but not get pregnant.

Or perhaps she used the morning-after pill?

How did she get hold of the pill on holiday? She must have already been on the pill at home.

HelpMeUnpickThis · 07/10/2025 12:39

@DancingNotDrowning we know why @Chiseltip made the assumption that he was a PITA despite multiple reports saying that he was a well behaved child with a good behaviour record, did well at school and was in a long term relationship with the girl in Dubai.

We know why @Chiseltip is judging this young man. It's obvious.

Why is that?

Please enlighten me .

You can buy birth control pills OTC without a prescription in Dubai

She wouldn’t of been able to get him locked up if he hadn’t broken the law. The girl couldn’t consent to sex as under 18. I do think the circumstances were unfortunate, if he was younger/ she was older / if it was in the UK it’d of been fine. It wasn’t though and he’s not the first person to find out other countries have tougher laws/ enforcement than the UK does.

I do think the U.K. track record on underage sex is pretty grim and harmful to children. I wouldn’t change the rules to penalise this situation but I’d have really hard sentences for adult men having sex with children tbh. None of this offloading responsibilities onto teenage girls as they are problematic.

Thanks. I know zero about Dubai and I'm glad.

Your points about the law in different countries would be reasonable if he had been caught by the authorities. There is zero justification for the mother reporting him.

He was a teenager having consensual sex with another teenager. I have teenage children, do you think it even occurs to them to know the age of consent is higher than in the UK when they're on holiday? Teenagers don't think like that.

The UK track record on underage sex is irrelevant, it wasn't underage in the UK. Or are you saying that our age of consent is too low? Because that's a totally different issue. He was not an adult man having sex with a child, they were peers. I don't think anyone has 'offloaded responsibilities onto teenage girls as they are problematic', no one here has blamed the girl. Her mother however was vindictive to do what she did once the consensual sex had happened and she and her daughter were back in the UK.

The Daily Mail is disgusting. There was no need for that article at all (I didn't read it). The lad is dead. Leave him and his family alone.

She couldn’t legally consent to sex though. It’s all very well saying teenagers don’t think like that but ignorance of the law has never been an acceptable excuse in the UK or otherwise.

DancingLions · 08/10/2025 10:05

There is no way the mother would have known anything about Marcus at that time. So defending her because of some DM article that's out now is ridiculous. I don't think she's to blame for his death, that was nothing to do with her. But she was nasty and vindictive getting him jailed.

He lived in Tottenham fgs, of course he's going to know lots of people, some of whom may have become involved in gangs. Was he involved himself? I don't know and I don't care. It's irrelevant. To me it's always a tragedy when a teen dies, whether their actions contributed or not. They still have a family who will be utterly devastated.

Notmymarmosets · 08/10/2025 10:10

This lad has clearly made a lot of bad decisions. I'm still sorry he has died and that no one was able to help him find a better way.
His death is in no way the fault of the reporting mother.

Can you buy them when you are under 18?

It seems very bizarre that it is a crime to have sex when under 18 but that you can easily buy birth control pills.

I have no idea tbh, probably if you don’t look suspiciously young they won’t care.

But birth control pills aren’t just used to prevent contraception. They’re an essential part of women‘s health care for many people. (abnormally) heavy periods, endometriosis and pcos can be treated with „birth control“ pills in some cases…

I don’t know anything about the legalities re people under 18 accessing hormonal birth control in Dubai. But under 18‘s being allowed access (despite the age of consent being 18) would be quite sensible imo.

Walkden · 08/10/2025 17:23

Also, it is unclear why the police stopped the car (according to the family the young men went out to buy milk). We do not know if the car was uninsured etc. We assume it is gang related because it happened in Tottenham and because they are young black men"

What are you talking about? The driver was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving without insurance or a license days ago which was widely reported by the BBC for example.

This makes it fairly obvious the car would have pinged the anpr camera in the patrol car.

marshmallowmix · 09/10/2025 12:03

This was all over social media a few days ago along with photographs …suggestions that he had gang affiliations.
