Best {?} on toast?

Eggs Royale for me. It's eggs Benedict but with smoked salmon instead of ham. I use toasted bread instead of muffins because I've always got some on hand.
Toast, too much butter, salmon, poached egg, shop bought hollandaise on top. Lovely.

CONTROVERSIAL: Beans are nice, but better if you serve them separately so the toast so it doesn't go as soggy, sticky and damp as a toddler's undernose.

Practically anything is good on toast but, for me, just good old cheese on toast is top notch. Served with nice tomatoes and spring onions.

Mysterian · 04/10/2025 09:31

The smell of melted cheese is incredible isn't it?!

Beans on toast with cheese on top. Dash of Worcester sauce, good grind of black pepper.
Served with one slice under the beans (more than happy for this one to go soggy btw) and the other with lots of butter cut in half and served either side of beans. For dipping and/or scraping the melted cheese onto before eating.

Butter, Marmite and two poached eggs.

The perfect food.

OooPourUsACupLove · 04/10/2025 10:15

Oddball one...

Yesterday's dinner cold on toast if it's something one pan like a meat stew or a thick lentil soup spread like pate. Has to have loads of butter under though

Nomorecoconutboosts · 04/10/2025 13:56

@OooPourUsACupLove I had an x who did similar, useful if you only have a spoonful or two of leftovers, the toast makes it into a meal. I recall him doing leftover chilli

SpiceGhoul · 04/10/2025 14:22

Very boring but I really like just simple toast with butter and sliced tomatoes with salt and pepper, let the toast cool so the butter doesn't melt. I also really love leftover salsa and guacamole on toast, lovely with a runny fried egg and some crispy chilli oil. Kimchi, cheddar and fried eggs with chilli sauce is another great combo.

cheapskatemum · 04/10/2025 14:26

Cheese & then another slice of toast, aka cheese toasties.

KelsCommemorativeSausage · 04/10/2025 14:32

Leftover Bolognese sauce. Sounds ridiculous but is very lovely if it's really nice thick bread and butter and you don't let it go too soggy.

steamingin · 04/10/2025 14:40

The toast needs to be soggy and buttery with beans, and mayo on top.

WoodenBoat80 · 04/10/2025 14:43

Beans on toast but the beans have to be boiling hot and stodgy. I can not stand warm beans with all of the gross sauce, a wooden spoon should be able to stand up alone in the saucepan before they are ready.
Served on a thick cut white bloomer with real butter, salt and pepper, banging.

DinoLil · 04/10/2025 14:47

Beans or cheese or spaghetti hoops.

End of discussion.

😆

What doesnt go on toast, how can you choose a best?

Jam and butter
Tahini and butter
Honey and butter
Cheese on toast
Peanut butter and butter and jam
Peanut butter, butter and chilli sauce
Sardines with melted cheese on top
Mushrooms
Tinned plum tomatoes
Scrambled eggs or fried eggs, copious butter
Beans mixed with butter

I miss toast.

Congealed. Love it.

I once upset an Italian acquaintance by likening pizza to "stuff on toast". 😡

I could live on toast, all the toast, butter, cheese, eggs, everything.

ChubbyPuffling · 04/10/2025 15:10

Just butter.

A nice salted butter, spread generously on a thick slab of homemade bread (twice toasted, crispy on outside , soft in the middle). Eaten still piping hot with half melted butter you can leave your teeth marks in whilst it drips down your chin.
mmmmm...mmmmm.

What I love is that virtually every single food culture around the world has a version of 'stuff' on top of a bread or bread like substance. Pizza is one of them Im sorry to say to your Italian friend!

openmicdrop · 04/10/2025 15:20

Last night’s leftover curry, reheated and served on toast for lunch (my Indian friend taught me that one)

SquidgySquoo · 04/10/2025 15:25

Second cheese on toast! I also love mushrooms, pan-roasted cherry tomatoes, or avocado, all with Philadelphia underneath and balsamic reduction on top. And of course peanut butter with either jam or honey. So many options!

Errolwasahero · 04/10/2025 19:36

Has to be marmite and peanut butter. Crunchy.

My favourite breakfast. DP thinks it’s weird.

Errolwasahero · 04/10/2025 20:29

It made my DP convert to liking marmite!

EagleOnTheMirror · 04/10/2025 20:36

Philadelphia and pesto

soupyspoon · 05/10/2025 08:25

Forgot lime marmalade

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 05/10/2025 08:31

Depends on my mood but cheese on toast is hard to beat. My cousin puts vinegar on his & actually it’s pretty good!
