Reed Diffusers That Actually, Properly, Really Scent A Room?

Usually I'm happy with The White Company ones, but I think they've changed the formula because their 'throw' is nowhere near as good anymore. Are the Valentte ones any good? Or please recommend your favourite.

I’m glad it’s not just me. I got thoroughly sucked in by threads on here (which are now reckon they must post on) and spent a fortune. I’ve never wasted so much money on something so pointless.

Lots of us have said the same on this thread. Valentte used to be far better quality 😞

The only times I can smell reed diffusers is in very small spaces like toilets. Which is probably the place that needs them the most.

The only places we have them in our house is one bathroom that doesn't have an outside window and the cloakroom that stinks of teenager's trainers.

Determinedloser · 03/10/2025 15:35

I have a Costco one that’s really strong

I like some of the Dunelm scents, but mainly because they are NOT too strong!

Imlyingandthatsthetruth · 03/10/2025 16:14

If these things actually worked, then the shops that have loads of them open on the shelves should be so overpowering that you'd keel over when you walked through the door! The reality is that you (well, I) don't smell them even in those circumstances. Conclusion? Snake oil. Or my nose is broken - I can stick them right up to my nostrils and barely smell them all let alone detect a difference between them!

fragrancestylist · 03/10/2025 17:34

Hi OP (& all) - I'm a fragrance stylist, and consult on what scents work well in different spaces. It could be that you need to layer more, or have more than one in your room. I'll link a few below that I find are very effective:

You could also try putting in some extra reeds, and make sure they are well soaked before you turn them over.

I have an Espa one in my hallway, loads of people who've come in have remarked on it. It smells like a spa. I got it on amazon!

I have an Espa pod diffuser and it's brilliant.

La Montana..........beautiful.

SaverQueen · 08/12/2025 09:07

I’ve personally found Marsden & Whittle to be the most effective…they last for ages and I find I don’t have to turn my sticks very often.

Sarover · 08/12/2025 09:41

unsync · 02/10/2025 12:20

@Arraminta Do you turn the reeds when the smell starts to diminish?

I turn the reeds every morning

Focusispower · 08/12/2025 10:18

I really like the Oliver Bonas winter scents. Have had one for the last two years. It lasts for ages and makes the room smell lovely. I’ve not tried other ones of theirs but this one is very good. Often in the sale in the NY or at other random times.

LoudSnoringDog · 08/12/2025 10:19

Rituals.

These are amazing. The lemon Verbena is my favourite. You can also buy refills and extra reeds to make top ups a bit less £££

As used at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons. We were impressed with them when we stayed there.

Motnight · 09/12/2025 06:25

Well, my Zara Diffuser has let me down so I've returned to this thread to get some more ideas!

TheGirlattheBack · 02/10/2025 16:27

The Neptune one’s are lovely and very scented. Also available in their online outlet here

Brontë is just the nicest smell and I find they last really well. I did buy some of their smaller seasonal diffusers and they weren’t as good, I think it’s to do with shape of the jar as well.

MissBattleaxe · 15/12/2025 17:51

Thanks to whoever recommended Cristalinas. They're really strong and cheap as chips. The cedar and sandalwood is very gentleman's club and the orange flower one is gorgeous. It was less than £18 for 3.

Sarahpainting · 16/12/2025 07:12

I’ve just bought the crystalinas too. I’ve put the cedar and sandlewood in the en-suite, I can smell it but I wouldn’t say it’s strong. Mine were £3.50 each from Asda, are there bigger ones ?

KilliMonjaro · 16/12/2025 08:02

EachandEveryone · 02/10/2025 16:32

I got sucked into them on Instagram and I can not believe how they have gone down hill. Really disappointed.

I loved their lemon and neroli - but recently bought some refills and they are definitely different and less noticeable. Gutted.
Just bought a neom refill for the bottles. Will report back!

Motnight · 16/12/2025 08:14

Back to this thread. The Zara Diffuser I bought was ok but not brilliant and ran out really quickly 😔

Morit · 16/12/2025 10:00

I've never heard of Cristalinas, but I just saw that they're made of essential oils, which I prefer. They're SO cheap! The reviews I've just glanced at are very mixed though.

I'll chuck the cederwood and the night blooming jasmine ones into my Ocado shop and report back!

WheresMyGin · 05/05/2026 11:53

I went through a period of not being able to smell any diffusers, but I think my sense of smell is starting to return. Might be post covid symptoms. I'm enjoying my amber sunset reed diffuser, it's still going strong after a couple of months. www.heartandhome.com/home-fragrance/reed-diffusers/

Belladog1 · 05/05/2026 12:12

I buy the COCORRÍNA Reed Diffusers. I get them from amazon and you get a pack of 3 for £27.99. They look pretty and smell delicious. I am on my 3rd box.
