A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Due to decisions made by this specific government since they go into power… all the above is the direct result of that?

goodness, that must have been all rather tenuous

Agreed. Pay any inheritance to DC now over a period of time.

Just this. I'm paying down his mortgage to the maximum allowed each year.
There are other contingencies in place, I just need to get it done before the budget.

Centuriesahead · 06/10/2025 08:40

We were paying for a bursary for another child, which we stopped on political grounds (the child was sadly removed).

wtf

now that is a thread i would be curious to read about

@Catatemyhomework when I was in my 30s, I thought the state pension would be abolished by the time I got there.

New news - the Green Party have voted to abolish landlords. My late father actually used to worry about communism. A reasonable concern.

I suppose one of the things about being a pessimist is nothing is ever shocking?!

I wouldn't worry Lloyds Bank and the Americans are building accommodation here spending billions, they'll be landlords with tremendous clout.

Centuriesahead · 06/10/2025 08:41

@GabrielsOboe

the child was “sadly removed” from the school because you stopped paying their fees due to “political reasons”

I don’t know what you expected to happen when you made the decision to stop paying their fees

TheNuthatch · 06/10/2025 08:42

Good morning 😁

Welcome to the thread @Centuriesahead. Have you been impacted by Labour? I'm a small business owner struggling to cling on thanks to this government. What do you do?

Same as Labour's "tough decision" to tax the education of children. Same outcome.

Many schools are having to reduce bursaries because they simply don't have enough money now due to the number of DC who have been pulled out.

I haven’t been
my ex husband (with whom I am very amicable with) has been as an importer

@GabrielsOboe Sorry to hear about your team.

Politics sounds good. I'd vote for you.

It makes a horrifying sense.

And it all starts with Wales. We're the lab rats for social change. Gordon Brown spends more time here than at home. He's been steering the first minister for a decade or more.

Well plenty have been adversely impacted, just on this thread alone.
I'm glad you haven't been, I hope it stays that way for you.

Grow up and join the real world.

An emphatic yes - do you have any idea of the impact of the October budget? Any?

LMAO

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cy852jq7v25o

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) spends around £1m a year sending children to private schools in north Wales because "state schools teach some or all lessons in the Welsh language".

Hope they paid the VAT!

Well I do know a family that did this because they were RAF but the children stayed as boarders when the parents were posted overseas. It's nothing new.

no government is being honest about the objectively high level of taxes higher earners have been paying since 2010, the madness of the many tax traps, and the patchwork nightmare that is the tax and benefits system.

Still 8 weeks until we hear how else they’re selling a lie that they’re nudging up taxes in this or that way that’s fair and on broadest shoulders or fixing some made up historical unfairness.

the thing is the tories don’t want to be honest that they have been raising taxes on higher earners for years and creating disincentives, and Labour don’t want to be honest about it either as what’s the point of them if the tax system is already making sure higher earners pay their European style fair share?

I think they might have worded it badly because you put them on the spot.

If that poster had said "ideological reasons" would that have been more understandable/acceptable for you?

Because that's what the reasons behind the VAT decision were.

I stick with political - as in Labour exercised their power to amend fiscal policy and I responded with my power to reduce my tax liability.
