A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Do I speak/write in double Dutch? Or in riddles? Or in parseltongue?

You've been on those pro-Labour threads again, haven't you?😙

TheNuthatch · 01/10/2025 17:56

Is it bad on the other threads? I haven't ventured today, had a feeling they'd all be mad as a box of frogs.

They'll quieten down again after the OBR forecast on Friday.

It's a bit extra.

Lifted this off Isabel Paterson’s latest news letter.

Has it been one of those days?

It has indeed 🤯 I'm not sure how many times I can keep repeating the same thing.
Ah well I've got wine 🍷

EmpressoftheMundane · 01/10/2025 18:45

Goodness, image is under review! Quote from Thomas Sowell. Very dangerous man.

okay, I can see that image has passed muster, phew!

twistyizzy · 01/10/2025 18:46

TheNuthatch · 01/10/2025 17:45

I understand you perfectly. What's up?

Having to repeat the same thing ad nauseum because some people can't comprehend English.

It is another level of batshittery out there today

As they say in America: you can’t argue with stupid.

CruCru · 01/10/2025 18:47

Okay, there’s a thing in the Times: “Cabinet backlash against “expensive and complicated” digital ID scheme”. That didn’t take long.

Tg for that.

CruCru · 01/10/2025 18:52

This is interesting: “Before the announcement, 57% of voters were in favour of ID cards, while 25% were opposed. After, 42% said they supported ID cards, while 45% were opposed”. Presumably, the voters just don’t like or trust the PM and his cabinet.

It might be because i.d. cards have been out of the public debate for ages and the practical and ethical issues aren't immediately obvious. And the fact that the policy was announced on a day when hackers were ransoming the details and pictures of nursery children may have concentrated the mind.

EasternStandard · 01/10/2025 19:00

Apart from supporters saying yes to whatever what’s good about them?

Huge cost, won’t do what they say they will on illegal working, and I bet some Labour MPs personally don’t want them. Some have said so even if not on a personal level.

CruCru · 01/10/2025 19:06

The article says that it’s going to alienate voters on the soft left and won’t stop migrants crossing the Channel.

Quite.

It's utter madness out there.

I thought I was the voice of peace and reason and got myself insulted every which way to Sunday and back.

TheNuthatch · 01/10/2025 19:53

EmpressoftheMundane · 01/10/2025 18:43

Love that. If only Labour had the same principles.

All thanks to Starmer's speech, it has given supporters carte blanche to mock, attack and be vile to anyone criticising Labour. That will be his legacy = sowing more division and hate

Perhaps people feel Labour are slipping. It does feel like that. No excuse for some of the stuff today though, totally agree it’s madness.

All I did was ask for all of us to show some respect to each other.

I was told that political insults have a long tradition in this country and I'm obviously dim and ignorant for not realising it.

Hmm

They've obviously taken it as some sort of rallying cry from Our Dear Leader. I thought they might. Its quite pathetic really when you think about it.
What did JKR say about Emma Watson? She's too ignorant to understand her own ignorance? Something like that anyway. You could say the same about those still defending Labour.

2 minutes 1984 fling an insult for Keir

TheNuthatch · 01/10/2025 20:15

I might have to read 1984 again, it's been a while. Or will it just make me even more angry 🤔.

I’m not sure. It’s really good but it’s close to Labour stuff!
