Christmas decor you just don't like?

It's obviously all down to* *personal taste but..... which items of Christmas decor leave you feeling colder than the weather outside?
For me it's the Disney baubles/figurine things that hang on the tree! Putting a little red hat on Bambi doesn't make him festive, even worse when it's the whole collection and it looks like something that belongs in a nursery!
Thinking about it most Disney films seem to be set in the summer so maybe that's why they seem so wrong on a Christmas tree🤔
I did go through a phase of everything being silver/black and white (should give the Disney lovers something to cringe at on my behalf! ) but over the last few years I have added a bit more colour, obviously in a very tasteful almost still neutral way...
This thread is hopefully lighthearted, I am taking the piss out of myself and do not feel I need hate mail from the 'Disney Christmas Decoration Foundation'🤣

Blue lights
White lights
Pink decorations (pink is not Christmassy)
And, decorations being put up before 1st December!! Should not be allowed.
Even 1st December is early, really. Maybe, like, 7th at the earliest

Rainbowlou0001 · 23/09/2025 22:36

there is a house in a nearby village that has these up all year round!!

😲

BlueRidgeMountain · 23/09/2025 20:37

Can’t stand blue fairy lights. Someone round here drapes their house in them then switches them on to flash so I keep thinking the police are outside 🙄, because nothing says Christmas like having a riot van outside your house apparently

I’m probably showing my age but it always makes me think of 80s discos - somewhere called Xenon or something

Those big wooden soldier things. Is it the nutcracker?

LEWWW · 23/09/2025 23:16

I’m not a big fan of the grinch Christmas trees/decor atm…

I have the whole collection of the vintage Disney tree decorations and they are literally one of my prized possessions. 😝

Tinsel.

I cannot stand the look, feel, or smell.

Yes, it’s banned in our house, although DH loves it. Awful stuff.

SquashPenguin · 23/09/2025 23:20

Going against the grain but I love Nutcrackers. I don’t mean the shit rip offs from Home Bargains but proper German woodwork ones, from proper German Christmas shops.

Back to tat and the inflatables are the worst.

shellyleppard · 23/09/2025 23:20

Those furry gonks..

saltandvinegarchipsticks · 23/09/2025 23:23

another vote for gonks

also as much as I love the Nutcracker ballet, the actual nutcrackers you can buy give me the creeps, I keep thinking they’re going to come to life and stand there staring at me like a perv on a train

AutumnCosy2025 · 23/09/2025 23:23

It's not a decoration...

but people posting about Christmas in the general topics in September!! Post in the Christmas topic! That the rest of us can hide Christmas chat jn September !!

Fionasapples · 23/09/2025 23:30

I don't like a single colour for decorations, e.g. all blue baubles on a white tree. Where Christmas decorations are concerned, I'm old fashioned.
I'm not keen on Disney decorations either.

PopperBo · 23/09/2025 23:30

Penguins! They have no place at Christmas as they live at the wrong pole.

Elf on the shelf whose bloody idea was that?!
As if ive not got enough to do without coming up with 24 creative ideas for that daft elf to get up to every night

It’s literally the worst thing I ever started I cannot wait for my 9 year old to stop believing in Santa so I can end the fecking elf all together. Hoping if I have to do it this year it will be the very last.

Agree with everyone also on the blue lights. Horrible. Love a Disney bauble though especially the ones we got from the Disneyland Paris Christmas shop.

Sasha07 · 23/09/2025 23:31

Things like this. Whatever tf this is. Why... Just why?? Who?! Who is wanting these kind of things? 😅 Explain thyself! 😬😁

This 100%

LancashireButterPie · 23/09/2025 23:39

As a family we are aware of what is considered naff, however we live in a "nice" village, so a few years ago, just for a laugh we put up a 10" tall inflatable snowman family on the roof of the house, with about a million flashing fairy lights. Not one person said a word but I know it was noted 😂😂

RavenPie · 23/09/2025 23:40

The blue lights - my neighbour has them flashing away from early November. It’s like living next to a motorway pile up. There is also a house maybe100yards from where I work - a hospital - without fail every night when I approach on my way home I assume it’s an ambulance. I don’t know how the people who have them don’t make the emergency services connection. if someone would make some pretty lights in soft colours without any blue or stark white they could retire on the proceeds.

I hate the “Santa stop here” signs - I don’t think it’s “grabby” to expect Christmas presents but putting a bossy sign outside your house demanding them is too much.

Francestein · 23/09/2025 23:43

“Giant” anything, laser light shows on houses, elf on a fucking shelf - especially the dressed up ones, tinsel, anything other than sedate, warm, golden light gives me migraines and I loathe when it looks like Christmas has vomited on the house. Keep it simple!

HappyGoLucky16 · 23/09/2025 23:44

Not keen on the “Christmas Shrimp”.

Calliopespa · 23/09/2025 22:45

Out of interest, do you recycle them another year at some point, or sell them on?

They are all in the loft in themed boxes. DH is aghast at my ever-growing collections, and tuts audibly whenever I buy any new ones. This year I won't be buying anything unless it looks genuinely retro or I can find some vintage mercury glass baubles going cheap. They are super-collectable these days and cost silly money on ebay. If only my parents hadn't got rid of all theirs years ago.

I do send the occasional few bits to the charity shop, but not often.

NotToday1l · 23/09/2025 23:46

SwedishEdith · 23/09/2025 20:33

When I get given a Christmas tree decoration from Australia. So, a red kangaroo or something. I "lose" these.

My parents have Christmas tree decorations from so many places ( some very unusual pieces), they have been collecting for around 40years, the tree is amazing when decorated, I think a Christmas kangaroo would look great but it depends on the way the tree was decorated

chunkychoos · 23/09/2025 23:46

I'm just here to stand up for the poor gonks!

How can you all hate them?! They're cute. My Christmas gonks have somehow spawned and I now own Halloween gonks too.

But do agree with 'no' to blue Christmas lights.

I love tinsel too but was banned last year by my adult daughter from putting it on the tree 🙄

Procrastination4 · 23/09/2025 23:47

Those creepy nutcracker figures, cold white lights and tinsel.

Lol, you'd be aghast at my tree! It's 7foot 4 full of all the Disney shit I've collected over 15 years.

I hate Christmas gonks. Hate em!

The only thing I really don’t like are white Christmas trees but you don’t really see them around much anymore
