A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

If that poll is true, it won’t hold true for much longer - Labour would have to produce magic to get my dc to ever get their vote after the vat on education
policy.

Itcantbetrue · 18/09/2025 07:04

Does anyone care in the least what mamood says re fighting the lawyers re deportations.

Absotutly pointless time wasting.
They need to change the law.

I've just pictured him in goggles and a thong 🤣🤣

On another topic- the Good Morning Britain ticker on the bottom said that 2 million households have reported they hope to not put the heating on at all this winter.

oddly enough, yesterday DH and I were talking about exactly this. Last year we essentially shut every downstairs room in our house except for the kitchen and turned the radiators off. We all moved our entire day to day life upstairs. Yesterday I said to DH could we try and not turn them on at all, unless absolutely necessary. Maybe once every few days to ensure everything works properly. Thing is, we are (currently.......) solvent. Have kids at private school etc and I just think if people like us are running shit-scared about costs what the bloody hell is it like for other families and people? I did some volunteer work with a charity last wiinter and we had people ringing up in tears and desperate because of the COL. People who never expected to be in that situation.

It's unspeakable.

oh sorry, not sure I put the quoted post in!

Yep same here. We have a log burner thank God and heated blankets but for many people it's going to be a very miserable winter. Obviously the knock on effect of no heating is a damp and cols house which then causes health issues.

Labour rejoiced in every challenge last time. They haven’t got a leg to stand on.

The post about TRIM reminds me that it was Robert Peston who said that Miliband refused to move from Energy in the reshuffle. At least that’s what was posted on here - I don’t listen to any podcasts - and I’ve no reason to question it.

I’m surprised that that nugget hasn’t received more attention in the media generally. If ministers can choose their jobs, Starmer must have zero authority with the cabinet. If ministers had dug their heels in with any Tory PM it would have been a huge talking point.

Maybe Starmer’s so inconsequential now that his PMship isn’t newsworthy enough!

LupaMoonhowl · 18/09/2025 08:20

Likely that EM persuaded SKS that moving him would signal a watering down/abandonment of Net0 and lose those loony fringe voters still clinging to that mantra

Upstartled · 18/09/2025 08:23

The resolution foundation are mad. We have 6.5 million people on out of work benefits. We need to look at why that has grown so much and how we get people back into work and being productive. We need to support businesses and wealth creators to make that happen. Not tax them out of growth.

The economy needs to be fixed, so that we can protect the social safety nets. There'll be no money left to do much beyond servicing our collosal debt if we do it arse backwards.

twistyizzy · 18/09/2025 08:25

CaveMum · 18/09/2025 08:01

Today’s TRIM looks interesting. At this rate I think Robert and Steph might need to pull up a chair in here 🤣

Yes exactly

Rivalled · 18/09/2025 08:26

Steph McG had misgivings quite fast - because she actually runs a business. I listen to TRIM mostly for her she’s a lone pro business voice although Peston has slowly grasped the issues.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 18/09/2025 08:26

Talk about putting the cart before the horse.

Smash the economy and raise welfare spending.

Rivalled · 18/09/2025 08:36

Ooooh @twistyizzy he’s on the money there Nick C - we don’t have the growth capital - and why not?

because we’ve been slowly killing our banking sector too alongside every area we once had a competitive advantage in.

we’ve also accepted that we have to have huge sums we can’t compete with to make AI work.

Yes it was me that posted about that incident. I’m a podcast addict so am constantly finding this stuff!

Couldn't agree more. I feel like we are on some sort of money spending rollercoaster spending faster and faster heading towdards deficit and disaster with that clown Starmer trailing along behind in his stupid little bippy car trying to catch up.
I just can't see us getting out of a certain bailout by the IMF before easter.

Liker · 18/09/2025 08:45

Good morning folks! It's pouring with rain again in my corner of the East Midlands 🙁but not cold enough for the heating, so that's a bonus.

Mahmood will say things people want to hear, but let's face it, nothing will be done while the lefty lawyers and ECHR stranglehold every move. It is pointless until the UK gets tough and holds the illegals offshore. You cannot set foot on UK soil until approved by us.

No British citizenship. No relatives allowed to apply. We have to stop the economic migrant pull and a strong message is needed.

Why would you hand over £10k to a smuggler if you cant get British citizenship as an illegal arrival and mum, dad, sisters, brothers, uncles etc are not allowed.

Eventually this will need to happen.

upseedaisee · 18/09/2025 08:49

I also think the Resolution Foundation need to put down their copies of Logans Run, it's not a bloody manifesto.
