Labour isn't working - Thread 9

TheNuthatch · 16/09/2025 17:55

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

UK 10 year up 45 bps.

That ad once again is just so patronising. That (along with gleeful spite ) is a Bridget special.

Besides- the VAT on school fees is quite magical. Remember how it was supposed to pay for more teachers ... breakfast clubs... and also the building of affordable housing? Never mind Department of Education- it's the Ministry of Magic.

They honestly make me sick to my stomach.

Totally shocked with this news.

‘They honestly make me sick to my stomach.’

Same

They're like bloody butterflies. Flitting hither and yon between manifesto promises but not actually delivering on any of them.
The only thing Labour has ever been consistently good at is spaffing other peoples money up the wall like some rugby team out on the piss.

upseedaisee · 19/09/2025 09:33

Oh my god... now I've gone pink. Can it get any worse?

Butterflies? More like moths.

The two girls holding signs have got it right. Awful, spiteful, incompetent Labour.

UK 10 year up 45 bps.

Is this in response to the BofE announcement yesterday about selling fewer longer term bonds?

Very amusing Political Currency today.

George Osborne taking the piss out of Ed Balls going to the State Dinner on Wednesday night:

“That's what the British establishment does, Ed. It takes lefty radicals like you, and it gets you all worried about, like, whether you're picking up the right fork or the right knife. That's how we control you.”

🤣🤣🤣

😂😂
I saw a picture of Ed in his white tie outfit. I was laughing last week when George was ribbing him about spending his weekends hunting at Chevening now that Yvette has a grace a favour country pad.

Like moths looking for light - if they’re a rugby club on the piss, it’s the most boring piss up there has ever been!

Upstartled · 19/09/2025 09:48

Bit late on to it today but thanks for the polling date @TheNuthatch. It was inevitable that Labour would lose ground in the wake of the Mandelson scandal but seeing Reform with an 18 point lead is nuts. And, interestingly, that's with a polling size that's almost double compared to usual, iirc.

Yes you're right, I hadn't noticed that. Usual sample is around 2700, this week it was over 4700.

Ditto. I made a conscious effort to avoid the press conference. I thought I'd give the popcorn function on my microwave chance to gird it's loins for the Labour Party conference.
It sounds like it was a bit of a damp squib. I was hoping the Donald would hand Starmer his tatties, but what a shame he didn't.
I thought Melania was every inch the statesman's wife, she was composed and looked stunning, I think it's the first time Kate has been close to being upstaged. Oh and Victoria Starmer reall needs to sack her dresser.

Yep on all this! Kate did look good at the state dinner, Melania looked great. I can’t stand the whole back slapping part, I get hopeless Starmer need some help from somewhere but I’ll just look at the outfits.

Also, 16% is incredibly low for a governing party. I think that might be quite unique. I'm having a quick rummage in the usual places for this kind of information and I can't find any other poll that has been so low for any government. I might be wrong though - but it's stumped chatgpt too.

Upstartled · 19/09/2025 10:04

No, can't find anything like this. If the other pollsters trend this way and this doesn't change, they are utterly fucked.

Absentosaur · 19/09/2025 10:07

It’s such a long time left though, isn’t it. 4 more years of this. 🙈🤯

Upstartled · 19/09/2025 10:13

I don't know, maybe I just have the heebies today after the direction of things these last few weeks, but what happens to a country when the government who is about to put through an austerity budget, necessary if the economic outlook continues to get worse, as it is and will, and so few people in the country favour that party in power? I mean, it's a bit of a tinderbox.

I’m thinking they might try to spin another tax rise and growth will keep stalling. There must be a point though where debt servicing and cost of borrowing really do cause a shift. To cuts? Maybe but Labour MPs might be too against.

If it’s just austerity then the public will loathe them but maybe we’ll just be stuck with them until the GE

Upstartled · 19/09/2025 10:37

Yes, maybe they can get by with just the tax hikes? I don't know. Maybe they can cut some capital spending to bridge the gap before cuts? I guess we'll have to see. News items about the state of the fiscal headroom differ wildly at the moment.
