Why was it mostly men on the march?

noblegiraffe · 14/09/2025 09:48

I've seen quite a few photos of the march yesterday, and they pretty much all look like the one below. Vast majority men. Why is that? Why is Robinson's patriot messaging and call-to-action landing mostly with men and not women?

Voting by sex wasn't massively different in the last general election - men were certainly more likely to vote Reform, but not by a huge amount, so generally politically we're not that different.

I am surprised by the amount of news coverage, considering how usually on big marches the news try not to give it too much publicity

They are all men of fighting age. Where are the women and children? If it was so safe why would they leave them behind?

We wouldn't be safe from the counter-protesters. I'd have felt very safe in the main crowd, as I'm sure many people did. This isn't the gotcha you think it is. I'm proud of those who attended, it looked great.

I was there. True there were mostly men but there were all ages of women too. My experience of it was peaceful, happy and humorous. We didn't experience any anger and people were all really polite (it was difficult trying to navigate through the crowds but people did stop and make space).

Only bit I didn't feel comfortable with was leaving at the end. We had been up near the front screen/stage and there was lots of room there but as we left it was very packed at the furthest away part and too many people crammed in. I felt a bit claustrophobic at that point.

We didn't see any trouble at all.

Hilarious post. Such self-deception.

Is this the best you can come up with? Pathetically weak retort.
FYI: I am currently single. Who else would tackle my laundry and cooking? 🙄

I wasn't commenting on you or how you choose to spend your weekend, I was commenting that your average Tommy Robinson supporter is more likely to hold the view that domestic work is for women.

I was in central London yesterday. Absolutely not a part of this ridiculous march though. I did notice that all the men on this march looked and sounded the same: overweight, white, terrible teeth, covered in tattoos, smoking, drunk, perving, vile, shouting, pissing in the street, embarrassing themselves. I was ashamed to be English yesterday.

Yes. So superior to those awful immigrants!

AllTheTreesOfTheField · 14/09/2025 10:29

why do people always walk around with their faces covered on those “free Palestine” marches?? They all look like thugs with their faces covered. Wonder why 💭

Indeed. Worth mentioning that the rule TR instigated was NO masks allowed on his march.

I'm not a TR fan, but I did watch the event on various YT accounts and it was heavily stewarded and policed, and all seemed calm until police decided to start kettling at the end.

The counter protesters were peaceful and outnumbered 20:1. It wasn't them you were afraid of...

im sorry but perimenopausal joints?wjhere is the science.Of course the menopause exists and has effects but using perimenopause as a reason for everything is mad. Some joint issues are caused by people simply not moving, staying on phones and driving

I too would prefer to stay at home doing laundry rather than travel to London and follow under the rain some ex convict who can't put two sentences together.

Maybe women are just smarter.

Parkinbus · 14/09/2025 10:31

It's not reported as having been peaceful. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwydezxl0xlo

Large crowds ignored police directions and tried to get into secure areas and spots occupied by those participating in the Stand Up To Racism protest.

"When officers intervened to block their path they were assaulted with kicks and punches," the Met said, adding that riot police, horses and dogs were used to keep the opposing groups apart.

It wasn't. If you watched the actual footage, and not just look at pictures from the guardian and BBC, you'd see there were plenty of women and children there too.

Sure, here's a video reposted by Tommy Robinson himself. Does it look completely different to the photo I posted? I don't think so.

I was in central London yesterday as I work very near Trafalgar Square and unfortunately couldn't get the day off. That's another story but I can tell you that there were a range of ages from kids to grandma's to your traditional demographics. I saw a range of women from late 20's to pensioner age so Tommy has appealed to a wider range this time.

There were some. Not plenty. And most of the children were teenage boys...

Perhaps you could provide photo or video evidence to show this wide demographic?

Because it’s led by their cocks. They all get enraged when an “illegal” is accused of rape, not the same enragement for the women in Oldbury this week whose attackers are described as white and telling her she doesn’t belong here.

GlastoNinja · 14/09/2025 10:34

DH just told me about a photo he had seen, taken from above, with the caption ‘the issue isn’t free speech, it’s male pattern baldness’

OldieButBaddie · 14/09/2025 10:35

This thread reads like a playground spat. The name calling and lazy tropes are symptomatic of the loss of nuance we have in any debate these days it seems.

Of course not everyone on the march is a meat headed yob. Of course the so called leftists aren't going to be beating people up. If this country has any hope at all we have to stop being so black and white about things.

SOME people on the march would be there to cause trouble, of course. SOME people on the counter marches will take it too far I'm sure. But there are ordinary people on both side, all with valid concerns. Why is it not possible to accept this and stop hurling insults at each other. This happened during Brexit too, remainers just couldn't believe that enough people would be stupid enough to vote leave and instead of engaging in debate with people with opposing views, labelled them ignorant or hateful and look how that played out!

These are ordinary people, on both sides. Not monsters or idiots. Why do people not see this and rush to label anyone with opposing views?

weetumshie · 14/09/2025 10:35

No idea why all men, but was quite happy to see how many. Meant the women in their lives were safe from domestic abuse for a couple of hours. And I know ‘not all men’ but over 40% at last years riots had DV convictions…

GlastoNinja · 14/09/2025 10:35

Also, can someone enlighten me please? What is the concern about free speech? What is it that people can’t say?

MikesMohawk · 14/09/2025 10:36

@Digdongdoo You tell yourself that if it makes you feel better. It must sting to know it was generally a peaceful protest. (There are always small pockets of troublemakers, but that applies to pretty much any crowd of this size, unfortunately).

The tide is turning and it makes me happy.

They don't mean free speech. They mean "I want to be racist and sexist and get away with it (preferably with a round of applause too please)"

Because they are essentially thugs.

I drove past a pub in Woolwich / Greenwich (The Angerstein Hotel, I think) absolutely teeming with them yesterday evening . Hundreds of them all dressed in black, all men, Police riot vans across the road.

They just get reincarnated: skinheads, football hooligans, ‘protecting the cenotaph’ and now apparently uniting the Kingdom.

And the fact that they are all men should in itself raise questions.

I am not saying that women don’t hold far right / anti immigration views but this is thugs jumping in a bandwagon.

It’s not to do with childcare

Childcare doesn’t stop the Palestine marches week after week, where women are prominent.

To be fair, Charlton played Millwall yesterday so that crowd were always going to be around anyway.

Woolwich was gorgeous yesterday. We were there just as carnival was coming through. A beautiful display of multiculturalism and a celebration of so many different cultures who live locally. I really needed to see that yesterday of all days. Just reinforced my faith that London is still fabulously multicultural.

@noblegiraffe As a woman of colour I chose not to put myself at risk by pulling my phone out to start filming marchers. If you don't belive me then that's your choice but I chose not to put myself at risk of a racist attack for taking photos.

If you're interested ask national rail to provide footage of marchers including women with banners & flags at Charing X station.

So tell us again why you were too scared to attend this peaceful protest?

mamagogo1 · 14/09/2025 10:37

Because they are thuggish types who fancied going on piss up. Coaches were laid on free in many places, a jolly boys outing. I’d lay odds many of them couldn’t name their mp and don’t bother voting!
