Why was it mostly men on the march?

I've seen quite a few photos of the march yesterday, and they pretty much all look like the one below. Vast majority men. Why is that? Why is Robinson's patriot messaging and call-to-action landing mostly with men and not women?

Voting by sex wasn't massively different in the last general election - men were certainly more likely to vote Reform, but not by a huge amount, so generally politically we're not that different.

Why was it mostly men on the march?

IMHO reasoned debate is how civilised societies should address differences of opinion.

Racism should always be challenged, rather than ignored or dismissed.

Yes that would be lovely if trying to engage in reasoned debate didn’t het you sacked and banned from social media.

Betsy95 · 14/09/2025 15:19

The whole thing just makes me really sad, saying that marching and using flags in the way they are being used is “patriotic” is an embarrassment.

What they are being used for is a signal of intimidation and allowing someone like Tommy Robinson to spew venom amongst it is a signal that some of our society are believing really worrying and inflammatory views.

Do the same people march behind the flag on Remembrance Sunday, or did they have a flag at half mast when the Queen died if they are that patriotic? Doubt it.

None of it is patriotic or “uniting the kingdom”.
completely the opposite.

You do understand that racism exists in all communities. That many Hindus in the UK have very anti Muslim views? That many Muslims have, for decades been very racist against people if Caribbean descent. Thar Muslims can be very bigoted agsinst white people don’t you?

Given the context of this thread and my comment, it's unclear what your point is.

Yes. Like the people that come over on the boats it was mostly men.

@Betsy95 I think you will find ex service people can have very strong views on these topics too. Certainly expressed on the radio.

I think it is fair to take the claims with a rather large pinch of salt, given the fact that the poster concerned is trying to direct people to Yaxley-Lennon material (and is presenting him as a hero).

YMMV.

I thought we were in the business of believing women and how they feel and if they feel threatened or not. I’m sick of the hypocrisy. The freedom of speech works both ways and while is patently ridiculous for right wing to be marching for free speech given how hard and effectively they try to squash it, the left are equally as bad in constantly claiming that whatever anyone says that isn’t completely in line with their thinking say is wrong, a lie etc.
please remember that up till a couple of years or so ago, the left would not even contemplate ANY conversation at all about immigration continuing to close down any discussion. Now suddenly it’s “yes there is an issue but we need sensible debate etc” for something that for YEARS was claimed to be not an issue at all. So why are we surprised that the right are so angry?

I was thinking about going but I had a pile of laundry that had to be tackled and cooking too 😃
I was also a bit worried about possible erupting violence and thuggish behaviour from the woke leftie opposition, so gave it a miss. But I was there in spirit!

Seeing as the violence was all from the United Together march, do you feel a bit foolish that you had predicted violence from the left wing protestors?

Would you go on the next Tommy Robinson march, knowing that some of the marchers attacked and spat at police?

What's your point? You think that racism is OK just because other people might also be racist?

TizerorFizz · 14/09/2025 15:29

@Skipthisbit It’s nothing to do with free speech in the accepted way. It’s freedom to say exactly what you want in the way that you want. It’s freedom to stir up racist people, dress it up as loss of freedoms and generally be intolerant. It’s freedom for Americans to incite the Brits to bring down their government. Maybe the Govt should do a Gerry Adams on Musk? Seen but never heard. Do us all a favour!

@StewkeyBlue nail on head - and don’t forget their gangsters molls- there were always thick underachieving yobs around the football scene when I used to go in the late 70s and early 80s - they are still of that mindset , jobs on the side, hate foreigners, love getting tanked up , love their kids and family apart from when they are busy keeping them under the thumb and making sure everyone knows whose number 1 in the house- cliche maybe but as someone originally from a mining community like this - cliche sometimes has strong elements of truth - and they are being incredibly naive too when it comes to Farage - as Del Boy would say - played like a kipper

It’s incredible how the pro immigration, pro asylum “anti-racism” people are totally comfortable with stereotypes (or what you prefer to call cliches) as long as they are about white people and preferably white men. You are perfectly happy to stereotype and sneer at a whole group of people ignoring any concerns they have/ refusing any debate or conversation as long as they are white. That’s why we have ended up with hundreds of thousands of people protesting - because simple balanced conversation is now completely impossible.

Teacupover5 · 14/09/2025 15:32

For the same reason it’s mostly men that go to football at the weekend ….women busy looking after everything at home !

There's a difference between stereotyping all white men, and judging the ones that align themselves with Tommy Robinson.

And what do those service people think about the fact that our armed forces throughout history has relied on immigration and support from other cultures to bolster our defences?

We are tiny island, not a world power, we need community to survive.

Our NHS is reliant on immigration, how happy will these people be when it isn’t staffed anymore so people can’t access services and you need to pay for treatment because it will be privatised.

Funny thing is the people that have a problem with the boats are likely Brexit voters who enabled more boats to come because we no longer have an agreement to return asylum seekers.
Utterly stupid.

I am ashamed to be part of a culture that has this toxic element that is so blinkered.

We wouldn't be safe from the counter-protesters. I'd have felt very safe in the main crowd, as I'm sure many people did. This isn't the gotcha you think it is. I'm proud of those who attended, it looked great.

Same.
I used to go every year to the Notting Hill Carnival.
Didnt go this year because the violence is now off the scale.
Look at the stats.
Will go to the next UK March tho’

Livelovebehappy · 14/09/2025 14:59

Look at the other threads from yesterday on the marches. There was a comment from someone who actually attended the counter protest march, who admitted that children were scared of the anti immigration one and had to be escorted out of the crowds. I asked her to confirm what she said, and she repeated that whilst she didn’t necessarily agree with it, there were children on the counter protest. So I’d take it up with her if you find her post. She would have no reason to make it up - she was actually with the counter protest crowd…

That's just strange, not saying it didn't happen but I started in Russell Square and was there one hour going through the crowds of people giving panflets and saw not one kid which makes total sense as the march would be heading to Whitehall were the right wing protesters would be and everyone was pretty aware that there was a potential for violence, not only that but the weather was awful, it was pouring rain for a while so who would want to subject their children to this? It was definitely a day for the kids to stay at home warm and safe.

Perhaps you could provide photo or video evidence to show this wide demographic?

Here’s one that summed up the majority

@Betsy95 You had better ask them. Plenty in the forces are right of centre though.

What violence? Can you show me footage of violence? It was a peaceful gathering. If there was any anger in the TR group at all it’s because the leftists wanted to interrupt their march.
You are riled up coz there was no violence, and now you are disappointed that those “thugs” didn’t live up to your expectations and now you don’t really have any reason to have a go at them.

The police were attacked and spat at last week as well at the Palestine march, and I think the demographic there was much older. Disgusting behaviour all round.

Gingerwarthog · 14/09/2025 15:55

Yes there’s footage posted by the Met of officers being attacked by projectiles being thrown at them.

Well, the Met have said there will be more arrests when they follow up the footage, so I wouldn't celebrate too soon.

The destruction of property and public urination at St Thomas's would spark quite a lot if they bother with them, but they might understandably be more concerned about tracking down the ones who were throwing missiles at the police (26 of them injured, 4 seriously)
