I have gnocchi bake in the oven right now but all I can smell is the absolutely divine smell of fresh rosemary smoking on top.

I don’t think I will ever tire of that smell.

What are your favourite ‘simple’ smells? Natural, non-processed or manufactured smells?

Cigarettes and petrol 🥰 don’t have either around me much - smelled a cigarette at the pub the other day and my friend and I both realised how rare that is these days! But I looooove them both. Have never smoked in my life!

Also Dill.

Totally agree with creosote. It reminds me of visiting my granny. She had a wooden summer house.

Also love the smell of jet fuel.

Basil, coriander and dill.

The smell you used to get from Christmas trees.

Anything cooking in lots of garlic and onions.

Newly cut grass.

The smell you get when you eat an oyster. Reminds me of the sea.

Oh yes, Devon violets perfume. Not sure if its around now but reminds me of my lovely nan who died in 1979

GameOfJones · 09/09/2025 21:33

Woodsmoke and petrichor. Both lovely, Autumnal smells.

I totally agree with the smell of horses. I used to have riding lessons as a child and teenager and I remember standing in the stables, laying my head against a horse's neck and feeling completely calm.

My favourite manufactured smell is baby powder. I absolutely love it and have some perfumes specifically because they remind me of that scent.
