Omg I was just saying this to my friend the other day after a swim in the sea, that i always felt very sore/inflamed

Moonlightdust · 08/09/2025 22:53

Oh my goodness thank you for posting this! I’ve used Mitchum for years with no issues but the last couple of months I’ve suffered from really sore irritated skin under my armpits. I couldn’t work out why! I almost went to the doctor about it. Funnily enough my last deodorant ran out and I’ve been using a different brand and my armpits have been healing. Now I know why!

stardust22 · 08/09/2025 23:00

This happened to me in March after using Mitchum for over 20 years. I had very sore irritated armpits, I couldn't sleep as they were burning and so itchy.
I sent my Mum a photo and she said it was probably from sweating more than usual or not shaving my armpits.
I used Sudocrem and stopped using deoderant completely. After a few days I started using Dove deoderant and haven't gone back to Mitchum since.

Yep, blow me down...(,or bugger me lol)... just checked the batch no of mine and there it is. Damn. "Damn, damn!" as Doc Brown in Back to the Future would say...

Argh. What antiperspirant can I use in the meantime? I mean, I know there are new batches coming;, but my stinky pits are bloody pongy without my trusted Mitchum...

Like others I blamed all different reasons as well and even changed my razor thinking it was that. I’ve been left with scars too 😫

shivermetimbers77 · 08/09/2025 23:14

Oh wow, me too. I thought it was just razor burn! .. mine matches one of the batch numbers. Thanks for sharing OP

EsmaCannonball · 08/09/2025 23:36

I had this back in June. The pain was excruciating, like severe sunburn under my arms. It happened during a heatwave and I put it down to shaving and washing my armpits too frequently and vigorously and some kind of chafing due to the heat and the fact that I do a lot of walking. I've been buying lots of specialist shower gels, moisturisers and ointments to heal it and prevent it happening again and all along it was my bloody deodorant.

user276 · 08/09/2025 23:49

I had darkening of the skin on one armpit! Do you think that’s related? I actually called the gp months ago regarding this as it’s not itchy but finally have a dermatology appointment next month!

JFDIYOLO · 09/09/2025 00:33

I had a sore reaction to Mitchum YEARS ago as a young woman and have never used it since. I wonder if anyone else had issues with it from way back?

MeandBobbyMcGoo · 09/09/2025 00:41

I had this about a year ago!! One armpit very red, raised, sore, itchy - thought Mitchum was maybe too strong for me, switched to Dove and it settled. Think it's a bigger problem than just those batches.

RatCatBat · 08/09/2025 21:11

Holy shit, I was wondering why my armpits were burning, I assumed it was perimenopause or something fucking with my skin. It was really painful.

I kept switching my shower gel, fabric softener, deodorant, got a new bra thinking it was my sports bra.

I had this in August and wondered the same! It was like a red chemical burn. I stopped using deodorant for a few days (cerave helped the soreness a bit), then went away for a week and used a little travel deodorant (avoiding the sore area) and it didn’t happen again. I had started looking into Fussy / more natural alternatives presuming it was me but clearly not.

Actually pretty furious now I’ve seen the real reason and how they are trying to minimise it!

I use Triple Dry when Mitchum stops working for me.

whereismymindd · 09/09/2025 05:05

THANK YOU for posting this. I have been struggling for weeks, thought I’d become allergic. I’ve only just yesterday been brave enough to shave my armpits again after weeks.

greasyhairedwoman · 09/09/2025 05:27

Same in our house for me and my two DdS. It has happened with me before a few years ago so I’m dubious it’s a one off…

smallsilvercloud · 09/09/2025 05:36

I had sore cystic bumps on my skin using the stick going back over a year ago, prior to that I had used for years without irritation.when I changed brand it went away.

Blobgummy · 09/09/2025 06:51

Well, this explains a lot! I've been using Mitchum for 25+ years, so when I had terrible underarm soreness this summer, my deodorant was not the first thing that sprang to mind. I thought I was generally run down and like others, thought that the heat and shaving was the issue. I bought a Dove 0% alcohol stick deodorant to help soothe the issue and it worked - now I know exactly why! Feeling very disappointed in Mitchum and their statement...a 'temporary irritation'? Um, it most certainly was not! I was feeling so awful I even showed my mum and dad my armpits and mentioned it to work colleagues! That's how much of an 'irritation' it was...who talks about their armpits at work?! Well, I did. As I didn't know what was going on!

OhNoNotSusan · 09/09/2025 06:53

well done to those that complained
they should let the stores selling them know

Hercules12 · 09/09/2025 07:01

This is me too. Thought it was a blunt razor. I’m currently using steroid cream. Thank you, op. I have the same batch number and been using mitchum for years. Will stop now.

ilovebagpuss · 09/09/2025 07:03

Just in case it helps anyone I have tried various creams and diagnosing the rash and found that Canestan is helping mine as an anti-fungal. However now that I know to stop the deodorant it will probably clear up without any cream. Thanks again OP

Icecreamhelps · 09/09/2025 07:05

I had the same reaction, thought it was an eczema flair up but it felt more like a chemical burn.

Dove roll on is fab - and a lot cheaper!

Yep mine cleared on its own within days of stopping using it!

SomethingFun · 09/09/2025 09:08

Yes I was on the other thread. I’ve thrown away all my Mitchum in the house and I won’t be buying it again. Slight manufacturing change my arse, my armpits were red raw!

SlothCat · 09/09/2025 09:19

I thought it was my childhood eczema coming back!

EsmaCannonball · 09/09/2025 09:19

I've just complained. It was absolute bloody agony and I've still been - completely unnecessarily - using expensive sporty-person's anti-chafing creams because I didn't want to be in that kind of eye-watering pain again. It's like I've been preparing to do a leg of the Tour de France every morning; the fuckers!

Any recommendations for a deoderant that is as effective as Mitchum but a bit less thermonuclear?
