Where can I buy such a dream concoction? Supermarket versions are lightweight.

Oh it’s my favourite cake/pudding ever. Waitrose do/did a nice one. You don’t see it on menus as much as you used to.

Where do you get your cherries? I bought some M&S “cherries soaked in kirsch” which was a lie.

I mean, it IS my birthday so I want that tart sweet alcohol hit nestled against the rich dark unctuousness of the chocolate.

M&S used to do a decent one in the chilled section. They don’t seem to have it anymore but the frozen one might be worth a punt? You could wallop some cream on top…

I can get any old light sponge cherry jam cream version. But I want riches.

Patisserie Valerie do a black forest gateaux that you can buy in slices- not sure it includes kirsch soaked cherries though. But it is nice!

I’ve had the PV one years ago and it was nice. Saying that I loved a Sarah Lee BF gateau back in the day so not sure I’m a connoisseur 😂

Think I had it back in February, but was nice and cherryey. And cake was moist.

If you can't find a good one in the shops make your own deconstructed one in a sort of trifle style, takes minutes .
Good quality chocolate cake, jar of cherries in kirsche, chocolate custard and squirty cream. I also make a more refined version at Christmas.
I want a baked Alaska but there is no way I am attempting that
